Keladi Rameshwara Temple | Keladi ,Shivmogga| Karnataka
Keladi is a temple town in Sagara Taluk of the state of Karnataka in India. Keladi is located about 8 km from the town of Sagara.
Keladi Chennamma provided shelter to Rajaram Chhatrapati, son of Chatrapati Shivaji who was fleeing from the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb after a meeting with her cabinet and treated Rajaram with respect, but Aurangazeb attacked Keladi. Keladi Chennamma fought the war without defeat and battle with Mughals ended in a treaty. A subordinate of Keladi Kingdom, Sadasiva of Swadi also helped Rajaram through a loan. Keladi kingdom was probably the last to lose autonomy to Mysore rulers and subsequently to British. Her cabinet was headed by Timmanna Naik, who was the descendent of a commander of Vijayanagra.

The great Keladi King destroyed Portuguese power in Karnataka - SHIVAPPA NAYAKA II HISTORY INDUS II
Shivappa Nayaka .1645–1660 popularly known as Keladi Shivappa Nayaka, was a notable ruler of the Keladi NayakaKingdom. The Keladi Nayakas were from Nayaka Community and successors of the Vijayanagara Empire in the coastal and Malnad (hill) districts of Karnataka, India, in the late 16th century. At their peak, the Nayakas built a niche kingdom comprising the coastal, hill and some interior districts (Bayaluseeme) of modern Karnataka He was known as Sistina Shivappa Nayaka because he introduced a tax system called Sist.
Shivappa Nayaka is remembered as an able administrator and soldier. He ascended the throne in 1645. During this time, the last ruler of the diminished Vijayanagara Empire ruling from Vellore, Shriranga Raya III was defeated by the Bijapur Sultanate and sought refuge with Shivappa.
Shivappa Nayaka(1645-60) the gratest of the nayakas of Ikkeri. He destroyed Portuguese political power in Kanara. In the 1650s he captured all their fortresses on the coast of Kanara. Shivappa attacked the fort of Basrur in june 1652 and by August of that year the fortress was abandoned. In November 1652, Shivappa attacked the fort of Gangolly and the following year the Portuguese had to destroy and abandon it. Thus Shivappa captured both fortresses, while the Portuguese decided to strengthen the defense of their other two fortress at mangalore and Honavar. However, During July-August 1653, Shivappa attacked the fortress of Mangalore and occupied it. Next he attacked the Honavar in January 1654. In August 1654, the situation become critical for the Portuguese because the adil Shah instead of attacking Shivappa, attacked the Portuguese. By the end of September 1654 the Portuguese dismantled the fortress of Honavar. With that they lost all four their strongholds in Kanara. Shivappa assumed the titile Lord of the Westren sea. The result was that the Portuguese considered shivappa their enemy. They ceased commercial relations with him and his subjects. This hostile relationship, however, proved ephemeral. In December 1658 SHivappa renewed friendship with the Portuguese promising them permission to open factories at Basrur and Magalore. But the Portuguese were not ready to sign a treaty with him. Shivappas reign came to an end in 1660.
Shivappanayaka Occupied Malave, KatteKilur, Bekala, Cittari, Candragiri and other placese. He defeated the rular of Nilesvar (in Kerala state) and erected a victrory pillar and defeated Bhairarasa wodeyar of Karkala. He drove the Portuguese out of Honnavar fort with the help of the Dutch. He also took possession of the fort of Gangolli in Dakshina Kannada from the Portuguese. The forts of Chandragiri, Bekal and Mangalore were built by Shivappa Nayaka Later he invaded north of the Tungabhadra river and captured territory in the modern Dharwad district from the Bijapur Sultanate He suppressed many revolts.
In the south, he destroyed the Portuguese political power in the Kanara region by capturing all the Portuguese forts of the coastal region. The revenue administration of sivappa Nayaka was noteworthy. The new land revenue was called sist He measured the lands and divided them into several categories according to thei average produce and calculated the tax to the kingdom. He did everything possible to acquire more land by cutting dense forest and encouraged agriculture. This method enhanced the revenue of the kingdom and at the same time did not burden the cultivators. Bidanur become a busy and flourishing centre for trade under him, as he encouraged the trade.
Sivappa Nayaka liberally made grants to several religious centres like shiva and vishnu temples, patronized sringeri matha, built an agrahara called sivarajapura and endowed it to the Brahmins. He also made arrangements for the continuance of the regular religious traditions at varansi. Shivappa Nayaka was a religious and tolerant man. Shivappa Nayaka performed Vedic sacrifices and rituals and patronised the Hindu Advaita order of Sringeri. He was tolerant towards Christians and gave them land to cultivate. He encouraged the mercantile communities of South India such as the Komatis and Konkanis to settle down and establish businesses in his kingdom.
Shivappanayaka died at Bidanur in 1661. His Samadhi is said to be at kalmatha of Bidanur.
Thank you
