Winterfest At The Arch Outdoor Ice Skating Rink In Kiener Plaza Park Downtown St Louis At Christmas
We'd Appreciate It If You Would Subscribe To Our Channel If You Haven't Already - Thank You!
St. Louis knows how to have a good time...even in the winter! Winterfest at the Arch in Kiener Plaza Park, is a great example of that. During the Arch Winterfest, they put up a portable outdoor ice skating rink with the Gateway Arch as the amazing backdrop. While you skate, you can listen to Christmas music and enjoy the sights of this beautiful and historic area. You can also buy food and drinks, purchase some commemorative Winterfest At The Arch merchandise, and even take a short walk to view the Arch even closer. There is also convenient on-site skate rental. We had a great time, and it was very cool getting to skate in Kiener Plaza virtually under the shadow of the imposing Arch! The event normally goes on through New Years Day.

Downtown Saint Louis
Arch, Kiener Plaza
New Years Eve 2019 Fireworks Kiener Plaza St Louis, MO
I drove through downtown St. Louis. This is what I saw.
We begin our tour of St Louis on the corner of Broadway and Cole street, downtown, at the Dome at Americas Center. This is where the St Louis Rams used to play. It’s on the north end of downtown.
We’re going to drive up and down the streets of downtown St. Louis and show you different points of interest. It’s Wednesday, December, 18, 2019 at 10 o clock in the morning.
St Louis had just received 4 inches of snow the previous day, but on this day, the sun was shining bright. On an average year, St Louis gets about 16 inches of snow, so for St Louis, this was considered pretty decent snowfall.
St Louis was named for King Louis IX. The city was founded in 1764 as a French fur-trading village. Nicknamed the gateway to the west, St Louis has more free major tourist attractions than any other city in the country outside Washington, D.C. Visitors pay nothing to visit the art museum, the history museum, the science center and the zoo.
We’re coming up on Clark Street, which is where Busch Stadium is. This is home to the St Louis cardinals, Say Mappy: Did you know: The cardinals have won 11 world series titles. Also on this street is ballpark village on the right, where there are lots of restaurants and bars. On game days you can sit on the roof and watch the games from across the street.
We’re heading west now towards the Enterprise Center, which is another venue where they play hockey games and hold concerts. This is where the St Louis Blues play for the NHL. They just won the Stanley Cup only a few months back.
We’re heading north now on14th Street up towards the heart of downtown. Off to the east, you can see The Arch, located on the banks of the Mississippi River. We’ll go down there and get a closer view later.
We’ll head east now on Washington Street.
The American Planning Association called Washington Street one of the 10 best streets in America. Years back this was a pretty dumpy street, but after $100 million in renovations, now its one of the trendiest and hottest spots in St. Louis.
They say Washington Street is the perfect combination of modern chic meets classic 19th century architecture lined with beautiful lofts, eclectic boutiques and restaurants and exciting nightlife.
Now, we’re going to head south on 6th Street.
In 1904, St. Louis was the first U.S. city, and only the third in the world, to host the modern summer Olympics. St. Louis is home to Anheuser Busch, and Nestle Purina.
Directly in front of us is Keiner (like weaner) Plaza Park, which has a skating rink, playground, fountains and a concert area.
Off to the distance you can see the arch. The big domed building is the old courthouse, which is now part of the Gateway Arch National Park. It used to be where many important court cases, including the infamous Dred Scott anti slavery court case.
We’re going to go back down Broadway and take Market Street.
Now we’ll take Tucker Blvd north again.
This is Olive Street.
Now, we’re going to go back to 4th Street and head north so we can get to the entrance for the Gateway Arch.
In this part of town are a number of casinos.
The Gateway Arch is 630 feet high. It’s nicknamed the Gateway to the West, and is a monument to the Western Hemisphere. It’s the tallest arch in the world and the tallest man-made monument in the United States.
It was built in 1965 for a cost of 13 million dollars.
For $12 bucks you can take a tram to the top where there are windows from which you can see 30 miles to the east and west. People who go to the top sometimes get scared, since on windy days, it sways as much as 18 inches in either direction.
South of the arch now, we begin our departure from St. Louis. We’ll cross the Mississippi River over I-55 on the Clay Bridge.
St Louis is a really awesome city and there’s a TON of stuff to do. This was just the downtown area. There are many other areas to explore. St Louis gets a bad rap for being one of the most dangerous cities in the country, and there are some really bad and dangerous areas in the greater St Louis Metro area outside of downtown proper.
But as far as downtown itself, it’s a great city.

St. Louis People's Settlement BANK OF AMERICA Action 1 of 6
Join Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment (MORE), the St. Louis Instead of War Coalition (IOW), Show Me No Hate, Transhaven, Literacy for Social Justice Teachers, Catholic Action Network (CAN), and other social justice organizations for the Peoples Settlement, a series of creative and peaceful direct action events buttressed by a five-night downtown encampment, designed to put our economy where it belongs—in the hands of the people.
The Settlement will build off the popular anger over the lack of change, rightly portraying corporations as the major source of the obstruction. Our goal is to combine political theatre, willful direct action, and popular education with community building, undergirded by the will to generate an inclusive progressive movement in Saint Louis. Direct Action Events Include: a Break Up with Your Bank day, an action at Bank of America demanding an end to unjust foreclosures, a Public Schools bake sale, guerrilla street theater to raise awareness about LGBTQ discrimination in the health insurance market, a Saint Louis labor history tour and many more. The encampment in downtown Saint Louis will rotate between different corners of the City Garden and other green spaces at 8th and Market, which is across the street from the Bank of America and the Peabody Energy Headquarters. Our core of 25-35 campers will hold our territory, recruit passersby to get involved, and participate in movement-building and direct action activities themselves.
We will kick-off the event on March 24th at 3pm with a real economy demonstration in Kiener Plaza. You will find a comprehensive schedule of events attached, including information for the final action, a march of the jobless through downtown Saint Louis.
We believe that this is the first step in building a genuine, broad-based anti-corporate movement in Saint Louis. From issues of local control to clean energy, to peace to jobs to healthcare, we all want an end to the injustice. And we have been working separately for too long—it's time that we stand up and stand together on a united front! Many of us have worked hard on political campaigns attempting to bend the ears of our legislators and it has been to no avail. Why? Because corporate power divides us on every issue and blocks us from effecting real change and legislative action. We hope our work can harness anger endemic in corporate control of our political and economic systems and serve as a rallying cry for similar actions across the nation. It is also noteworthy that for the first time, all of the major federal campaigns--Healthcare, Financial Reform and Immigration--are emphasizing the need for there to be significant, mass movement locally in order to achieve anything meaningful in DC. So join us to break up with your bank, participate in guerrilla street theater, campout on downtown, demand clean energy and a real economy, or simply raise your voice.

Hundreds of protesters, upset about a grand jury's decision not to indict white police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed African-American teenager Michael Brown, marched in St. Louis on Tuesday.
Beginning at Kiener Plaza, an initial crowd of around 100 grew to about 400 people, as they marched to the Thomas F. Eagleton United States Courthouse before continuing on to Busch Stadium and the Edward Jones Dome. The group also marched across the MLK Bridge and blocked traffic on Interstate 70.
Police in anti-riot armour followed the demonstrators. The decision not to indict Wilson sparked clashes Monday evening in Ferguson, with police and National Guard troops deploying tear gas against protesters.
