Road to Satara from Mahabaleshwar
Mahabaleshwar is the largest hill station in the Sahyadri range of Maharashtra state. It is situated at an altitude of 1372 m above seal level in Satara district, about 115 km southwest of Pune.
Due to its high altitude, the town has a cool climate and offers many pleasant walks. There are several lookout points which offer spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valleys. There is an old Shiva temple in the forest, which is the source of five rivers, including the Krishna river which is the second longest river of peninsular India. Its very good place to visit.
Mahabaleshwar is visited by many thousands of tourists every year. It is well connected by bus with the important towns of the region. There are numerous hotels for every budget. The peak season is March-May; it rains very heavily from June to September.
Mahabaleshwar is also accessible by road from Mumbai, about 247 km. It takes about 4 to 5 hours by car if taking a route via Panvel through Mahad and Poladpur.
After the opening up of the Mumbai -Pune expressway and the highway onwards from Pune to Satara, this is the much better and preferred option to drive down from Mumbai. The distance via this route about 40 kms more but you reach much faster. You have to get off this highway at a place called Sirur and then travel via Wai and Panchgani to Mahabaleshwar. The road is less winding than the other one via Poladpur but more easy as far as driving is concerned.

Tropical wilderness of Satara, Maharashtra
Satara is a town located in the Satara District of Maharashtra state of India. The town is 2320 ft. above sea-level, near the confluence of the Krishna and its tributary river Venna. The city was the capital of the Maratha empire ruled by the Bhonsle Chhatrapatis, hence one of the historical cities of Maharashtra. This city is the capital of Satara Tehsil, as well as Satara District. The name of the city is derived from the seven hills surrounding the city. Saat meaning seven in Marathi and Tara meaning hill, thus forming the word 'Satara'. Historians agree that the name of the city has its origins in the seven hills overlooking the city. The seven hills are Ajinkyatara, Sajjangad, Yawateshwar, Jarandeshwar, Nakdicha Dongar, Kitlicha Dongar, and Pedhyacha Bhairoba. Satara is located in the western part of Maharashtra. Satara district is bounded by Pune district to the north, Solapur district to the east, Sangli district to the south and Ratnagiri district to the west. Raigad district lies to its north-west.
Satara district is situated in the river basins of the Bhima and Krishna river. The physical settings of Satara shows a contrast of immense dimensions and reveals a variety of landscapes influenced by relief, climate and vegetation. The variation in relief ranges from the pinnacles and high plateaus of main Sahyadrians range having height over 4500 feet above mean sea level to the subdued basin of the Nira river in Phaltan tahasils with the average height of about 1700 feet above mean sea level. The climate ranges from the rainiest in the Mahabaleshwar region, which has an average annual all of over 6000 mm to the driest in Man tahsil where the average annual rainfall is about 500 mm. The vegetal cover too varies from the typical monsoon forest in the western parts to scrub and poor grass in the eastern parts.
The famous tourist points near Satara City are Vajrai Waterfall, Ajinkyatara Fort, Sajjangad Fort, Chaarbhinti, Natraj Mandir, Bhairoba Hill, Kuraneshwar, Jaradndeshwar, Yawateshwar, Kas Lake and Kas Plateau, Bamnoli, Thosegar Waterfalls, Chalkewadi, Rajwada, Sangam Mahuli, Kshetra Mahuli, Pateshwar, Gojegaon, Narayan Maharaj Math, Shembdi Vaghali and Bamnoli.

Thoseghar Waterfalls Satara
Thoseghar waterfalls is a scenic spot located near the small village of Thoseghar, 20 km from Satara city, at the edge of the Konkan region, in Western India. There are a series of waterfalls, some of them 15 to 20 metres and one of 500 metres in height. People come from all over Maharashtra to visit the area, especially during the rainy or monsoon season, July to November. Heavy rain falls during that season, and because of this the falls have more water and are more spectacular. The immediate area is calm and quiet, with a clean lake and dark woods in a hilly area.

Lingmala falls - Glittering waterfall in Mahabaleshwar
Watch the falls through a rain-screen during the monsoon season! Excellent monsoon footage from central India...
The beautiful waterfall of Lingmala is located just 6 km away from Mahabaleshwar and is located at the top of Venna Lake. In monsoon the shining water from the lake is at its best where water plunges from a height of around 600 ft which is beautiful to watch. The best time to visit the waterfall is between July to December. Many tourists come to visit this place as this is one of the famous and amazing spot in Mahabaleshwar.
The Lingmala waterfall is best viewed in Monsoon season as the stream of the waterfall has a steep cliff coming out of the mountain in a high flow but in off season the flow is not so great and is divided by the rocks. The sight is mostly surrounded by the rainbows making us feel like heaven.
You can really enjoy a quite day in Lingmala waterfall with nothing but the sound of water with the beauty of nature and your camera will make you remember this journey for your life time.
