Rafting in Moab Utah
When in Moab Utah be sure to join Canyon Voyages for a great time boating on the Colorado River.
Our recent trip to Moab, Utah - Snowstorm Failure - Arches, Canyonlands, Manti-La Sal
Over the New Year's holiday, we realized we had a four day weekend. What better way to spend it than to go to Moab, Utah?
The first couple days we checked out Arches National Park; we were able to see a lot of the park including the Devil's Garden Trail (video forthcoming), Delicate Arch, Double Arch and Windows district.
On day 3, a snowstorm came through and Arches was closed. So we decided to check out Potash Road with the intent to see Corona and Bowtie arches....but the snow had other plans.
Before we ended up sliding off a mountain, we turned around and headed to Canyonlands....only to find out at the visitor's center that it was also closed. (Couldn't they have done that with a sign at the turn off from the highway?)
Next it was to Dead Horse State Park....also closed.
And then to Manti La Sal National Forest to check out the loop road. First mistake there was to turn off on a jeep road which we luckily figured out before getting stuck. Back on track, we headed up the mountain, only to dead end where the road was no longer plowed and, again, closed.
Finally, on the way home I started getting some cool time lapses at Monument Valley...Only to be informed it was alsoBut still, kicking off the New Year in failed hiking and exploring attempts was a lot of fun. Hope you enjoy.

Canyoning Tour Services - Granary Canyon - Moab Cliffs And Canyons - Guide Services
Our Full Day “advanced” canyoneering routes require physical exertion and stamina. These trips are a lot of fun for people who enjoy being active outside for a good part of the day, getting a full-body workout and pushing their own limits either physically or mentally.
The trailhead for Granary Canyon is located high above Moab and very near to the mesa top of Dead Horse State Park. Although this trip is classified as advanced, Granary Canyon is suitable for adventurous beginners looking for a lot of rappels and plenty of canyon obstacles. This trip begins with perhaps the best view of the dramatic La Sal Mountains and the labyrinthine landscape of the Behind the Rocks area west of Moab.
It is here where the Cane Creek Anticline brushes up against the Kings Bottom Syncline to create a roiling sea of polished, ancient rock. Details of the geological processes at work are punctuated throughout the day (rock talk!) since the views beg to be discussed and interpreted.
This stunning view will be our steady back drop as we negotiate the beautiful canyons and corridors of Granary Canyon. Named for the occasional ancient storage bins used by Moab’s early inhabitants, the Ancestral Puebloans (formerly known as the Anasazi). These small, well-hidden rock structures were the first prototypes of the building technique (using local mortar) that gave rise to the more famous cliff palaces located elsewhere in the Four Corners area.
One challenge of the canyon (and there will be many!) will be to locate the granaries, arches and the occasional natural bridge that this impressive canyon harbors.
Onto the other challenges! You’ll experience six miles of moderate hiking, 2000 feet of elevation loss with an occasional short, easy section of down climbing – often attached to a rope for extra security.
Then there are the rappels! With a mix of easy and challenging rappels you’ll have the chance to try out some “advanced” rope techniques. The rappels drop you into some incredibly beautiful and unique formations – the work of water and gravity creating artworks of stone.
The rappelling skills you’ll have mastered throughout the day will be tested with our last rappel – a 200ft drop that deposits us close to the banks of the Colorado River!

Trail of Highways™ Canyonlands National Park Scenic Drive sq 1 Moab to the Park 5 15 2015
We were here in mid May. The temperature was great, with afternoon rain and overnight snow in the high country. It made hiking perfect.
Canyonlands is a wilderness of countless canyons and fantastically formed buttes carved by the Colorado River and its tributaries. Rivers divide the park into four districts: the Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze, and the rivers themselves. These areas share a primitive desert atmosphere, but each offers different opportunities for sightseeing and adventure.

THE GREAT AMERICAN ROADTRIP Fabio&Giulia Southwest 2012: Driving the Shafer Trail in Canyonlands
Moab, UT. We visited Canyonlands NP on 3rd of July and drove the entrire length of Shafer Trail and Potash Road from start to finish. We first descent from the top of canyon and finally reach Moab from scenic byway 279. The dirt road drops 1900 feet to a shelf that is hundreds of feet above the Colorado and Green Rivers. A four hour adventure (almost eight if it consider the entire trip from Moab with Dead Horse Point and Mesa Arch trail!) If you stay in Moab don't miss this great opportunity...in normal condition this trail is praticable with an high clearance vehicle. Enjoy!!!
48 hours in Moab, Utah
When Jenni spent two days in Moab, the adventure capital of Utah, there were no late nights as it was all about the early starts to make the most of the incredible scenery. She contrasted the views of Canyonlands National Park from the scenic drive overlooking the canyon followed by an off-road adventure with Navtec Expeditions into the depths the canyon. Next up was Arches National Park and a trip to the lesser visited Tower Arch (along a challenging four-wheel drive road). The weekend culminated in an epic sunrise hike to iconic Delicate Arch.
