Nezu Jinja Shrine - Tokyo ᴴᴰ ● 根津神社 東京⎮Japan Travel Vlog
► Here's a look at the much overlooked Nezu Jinja - a Shinto buddhist Shrine in Eastern Tokyo. Often overshadowed by it's more famous cousins, Meiji Jingu and Senso-Ji, which is a shame, as Nezu Jinja is really beautiful in its own way, and somehow offers a more intimate atmosphere than most other temples and shrines around Tokyo.
If you're looking for a genuine classic Japan experience, at a place which isn't overcrowded with hordes of western tourists, then teh Nezu shrine is really the place to go. I spent 2 hours there, on a Satruday afternoon, and I didn't see any tourists apart from a couple of Chinese.
If you happen to be in Tokyo, I highly recommend a visit to this shrine. Easy access to Nezu Station by Chiyoda Line, Tokyo Metro. - Enjoy!
Nezu Shrine Walk - 根津神社 - One of the most beautiful shrines in Tokyo - 4K - 60fps
In this video I'm visitin Nezu Shrine, one of the most beautiful and picturesque shrines in central Tokyo.
This shrine still slips beyond most tourists, and hence it's often refered to as Tokyos best kept secret or The most underrated Shrine in Tokyo.
Nezu is a primarily residential neighborhood in the north-eastern part of central Tokyo that has long been one of my favorite parts of town, thanks to the many charming shops, that are a mixture of older stores selling fresh food, artisans studios as well as an increasing number of cool coffee shops.
This walk will take you through most parts of Nezu Shrine, including the scenic row of “Senbon Torii” - literally thousands of vermilion torii gates, although that might be a slight exaggeration.
This was shot with the phone (Asus Zenfone 5Z) mounted on a DJI Osmo Mobile 2. In October 2018, Tokyo, Japan.
I hope you like this travel video from Japan. Please let me know if there are any other places you would like to see me visit, or if you have any other opinions about my movies.

Nezu Shrine in Bunkyo Tokyo Japan oldest Shrine in Tokyo
The main building of Nezu shrine is a honden (本殿 main hall) in the Ishi-no-ma-zukuri style, a complex Shinto shrine structure in which the haiden, or worship hall, the heiden, or offertory hall, and the honden, are all interconnected under the same roof.
A Hidden Gem in Tokyo: Nezu Shrine in Ueno
Most tourists are familiar with Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto ( ). Many people flock to that shrine to take photos of the beautiful vermillion torii gateways. But did you know that Tokyo has a similar torii gateway at one of the oldest shrines in Tokyo? Nezu Shrine is a beautiful shrine, rich in history and certainly a hidden gem for photographers, instagrammers and shrine enthusiasts. Nezu Shrine is not as well-known as other shrines in Tokyo so one nice advantage is that you can leisurely roam through the torii gateway and admire the peaceful gardens without the huge crowds. That being said, Nezu Shrine hosts an Azalea Festival in April which is quite popular. I'm sure it won't be long before everyone discovers this hidden gem in Ueno.

NEZU SHRINE and YANAKA GINZA - BEAUTIFUL OLD JAPAN
Visiting Nezu Shrine in the middle of Tokyo. A shrine known for the Azelea festival held from mid-April to mid-May. For a natural setting of old Japan this is worth the visit.
Next up is Yanaka Ginza, an old style Japan shopping street filled with souvenir, yakitori and vegetable shops. A great way to experience old yet modern culture in the middle of Tokyo.

根津神社
Nezu-Jinja Shrine - Tokyo - 根津神社 - 4K Ultra HD
Another gorgeous temple hidden in plain sight! According to the temple’s history, the Nezu Temple or Nezu-Jinha Shrine was founded 1900 years ago by the legendary priest Yamato Takeru no Mikoto in Sendagi (Near Nippori). It was only during the Edo era that the temple was relocated to its current location. Like the Toshogu Shrine in Ueno ( the Nezu-Jinja Shrine is styled after Nikko’s Toshogu Shrine also known as Gongen or Ishinoma-zukuri, style. But perhaps the most well-known features of this temple among foreigners is its long Torii pathway (Red arch) located on the left-hand side of the temple and that it is surrounded by azalea bushes.
Note: If you want to enjoy a stunning view of the Tori tunnel surrounded by thousands of azalea flowers, the best time to visit this temple is in April.

⁴ᴷ Morning walking from Ueno station to Nezu Shrine #TYO-008
Very relaxing trail from Ueno station to Nezu Shrine, passing thru Ueno park.
In the way can see the Ueno Zoo entrance, Kiyomizu Kannon do (a small version of Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto), the food kiosks(baiten) in front of the temple and the duck pedal boats in Shinobazu Pond. After crossing the Ueno park go thru Shinobazu avenue, passing in front of Nezu station(subway) and finally go inside the Nezu Shrine, very peaceful and you will enjoy taking photos inside the small Tori gate.

☆Bits of knowledge〜Nezu-Shrine〜
The Nezu-jinja Shrine is said to have been established over 1,900 years ago by the legendary priest Yamato Takeru no Mikoto in Sendagi with Susanoo no Mikoto as the chief deity. In the Edo Period (1603-1868), the 5th shogun Tsunayoshi relocated it from Sendagi to Nezu to commemorate the adoption of Ienobu as his successor and the 6th shogun Ienobu chose it as the guardian deity.

Torii Gates at Nezu Shrine - Tokyo, Japan
I thought I wouldn't get to see the beautiful vermillion torii gates unless I went to Fushimi Inari in Kyoto, but I was wrong. I found a mini version in Tokyo at Nezu Shrine.
I got there at 9am on a Monday, and you can see right as I finish, a tour group was arriving. I actually walked through it starting at the end, but by the time I tried walking through again, it was packed.
Shot on GoPro Hero 7 Black.

'The Senbon Torii' in Nezu shrine 根津神社の『千本鳥居』
Nezu Shrine, a national important cultural property, remains in the original state that was established in 1706. The shrine boasts full bloom of about 3,000 azaleas of 200 varieties in early summer. The Otome Inari Shrine, found inside the shrine grounds. The Senbon Torii were constructed by people whose wishes were granted. By passing through them from north to south, it is said that any maliciousness plaguing you will be cleared away.
