David West Gallery Springdale David West Gallery
David West Gallery in Springdale Wow- his photographs of Zion National Park are stunning.
I fell in love with several pieces and would have bought them if I could afford them. My friend was smart and got a great print for only $35.
His photos are not only of Zion but of other amazing places. I loved that he was actually in the gallery so he talked to us about his work and what we liked. He was really friendly. He also has courage to follow his dreams- he moved out to Springdale after falling in love with the park. I think he is going to be really successful. I would highly recommend checking out his gallery. You'll be impressed.

Our American Road Trip Part 1 - Las Vegas, Bakersfield and Yosemite
The Bike Insurer sent Dave Jackson, our intrepid photographer, on a ten-day motorbike tour of the West Coast of America, primarily California.
But to get the wheels rolling, Dave started off in Las Vegas where he picked up his Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic motorbike from Eagle Rider before heading off through the Mojave Desert and onto Bakersfield and eventually Yosemite.
On the first leg of Dave's journey he stopped off at Peggy Sue's 50s Diner and Calico Ghost Town before eventually rolling into Bakersfield after 300 miles in the saddle.
From Bakersfield, Dave took to the road on his motorbike in the direction of Yosemite National Park, overtaking the longest train ever in the process, before arriving at his stunning overnight location.
There were a couple of issues for Dave and while they weren't intended, the idea of the motorbike road trip was that you could learn from Dave's mistakes.

Does the Past Have a Future? Ruminating on “Traditional” Chinese Painting
Arnold Chang, Modern Master of Chinese Painting
There is a tendency for people to assume that art is either “traditional” or “contemporary,” that traditional art is art of the past and contemporary art is art of the present. For painter and art historian Arnold Chang, Chinese painting is a living tradition that embodies the past and embraces the present, but also anticipates the future. Chang’s talk explores some ways in which Chinese paintings of the past can be understood in terms of modern and contemporary aesthetics. He identifies some strategies that he and other contemporary ink painters have adopted to keep Chinese painting relevant and allow it to continue to evolve into the future. Chang concludes his talk with a brief discussion of materials and a demonstration of traditional painting techniques.
Arnold Chang is one of the most exciting artists to work in traditional Chinese media today. Highly admired by specialists in the field, Chang is not only a superb painter but also a serious scholar and connoisseur. After receiving an M.A. in Chinese art history at UC Berkeley with James Cahill, he returned to New York City, his home town to study with the famed painter C.C. Wang (Wang Jiqian). He established the Chinese painting department at Sotheby’s and later worked for ten years at Kaikodo Gallery. An accomplished teacher and prolific author, today he devotes most of his time to painting.
Chang’s works have been exhibited at leading museums in the U.S. and China, and are in the collection of major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.
