After operating for 60 years the owners of Fig Garden Golf Club announced they'll be closing at the end of 2018.
Fresno County Amateur Golf Championships 2011 Belmont Counrty Club
The Fresno County Amateur Golf Championships has been hosting competitive amateur and senior amateur golf tournaments since 1993. The Fresno County Amateur tournament is sanctioned by the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) player point system and also hosts competitive flights for women, and golf players with handicap/indexes.
The Fresno County Amateur is the only tournament in the Fresno region that has been contested on several sites all within Fresno County.
There has never been a golfer who has won the Fresno City Amateur and The Fresno County Amateur in the same year.
Prior host sites have been Fresno West Golf Course, Sherwood Forrest Golf Club, Fig Garden Golf Course and Belmont Country Club. Current tournament directors: Tony White, Jacob Erwin, Rick Burton, Elizabeth White and Scott Karl. The tournament is hosted in the month of June the weekend after Father's Day and the US Open. Men's Golf Closes Out Fall Season at Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational
STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Vaqueros men’s golf team closes out their fall season at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational when they tee it up at on Thursday at Stockton Golf and Country Club.
The tournament will be a 54-hole event and will feature 18-holes per day. The Stockton Golf and Country Club plays 6,516 yards and is a par 71.
The Competition
Along with UTRGV and the University of Pacific, other schools competing include: BYU, CSU Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Denver, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Long Beach State, Nevada, Sacramento State, Temple, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Utah Valley.
Last Time Out
The Vaqueros competed at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, host by New Mexico State, where they finished in 12th place with a three-round score of 896.
They used rounds of 303, 297 and 296 to finish ahead of Western New Mexico and Incarnate Word.
Individually, the Vaqueros did not post any score higher than 78 with Andres Gonzalez leading the way with a three-round score of 222 (73,75,74) as he finished tied for 29th. Pedro Lamadrid finished right behind his teammate with a three-round score of 223 (76,72,75) tied for 36th.
Ricky Solis finished tied for 50th after posting a three-round score of 226 (78,75,73) while Nicolas Platret finished tied for 54th with a three-round score of 227 (77,76,74). Peter Fox rounded out the team with a three-round score of 228 (77,75,76) to finish tied for 59th.
Last Year at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational
The Vaqueros did not compete in the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational last year.
Washington State won the team title after posting a three-round score of 11-under par 841.
Santa Clara’s Shieh won the individual title after shooting an eight-under 205.
International Flavor
The Vaqueros have 10 student-athletes representing five different countries including the United States, Spain, Mexico, France and Germany. Two of the student-athletes, seniors Ricky Solis and Peter Fox, call the Rio Grande Valley home.

The Vaqueros have completed their fall schedule and now begin to prepare for their spring season, which kicks off on February 22.

1. Two hands on the wheel
2. Stay behind crosswalk until you are the only car in intersection when turning left
3. Don't make a left turn into the lane on the furthest right
4. Always stop behind the first line at the intersection
5. Green arrows are your best friend
6. Leave your wheels straight while waiting to make a left turn
7. Wait for a break in traffic and pedestrians or wait for a yellow light
8. Always check your speeds and stay within a 5 mile buffer below the posted speed limit
9. Look over your shoulder for any lane changes
10. Keep an eye out for no turn on red signs for right turns
11. Make slow and smooth stops
12. Always stay in your lane
13. Good rule of thumb: One lane, go 25
14. School zone and constructions zones are 15mph
15. Scan the roads with your neck, not just your eyes
16. Whoever stops first at a 4 stop has the right of way
17. Make full stops at stop signs. Don't do the California roll.
18. Don't stop at pedestrian signs. They are just alerting you too the possibility of pedestrians when you may need to stop if they are present. But otherwise keep going but be alert.
19. Signal 100 feet prior to your turn
20. You can only enter bicycle lanes where it's dotted, and that's only if you're making a right turn.
21. Be aware of green arrows and green arrows ending.
22. Yield to bicyclists and let them pass if you have to turn into a bike lane.
23. Leave enough space behind a car so you can see their tires.
24. Don't cause gridlock.
