The morning after the ekoostik hookah show in Talkeetna at the Fairview Inn, after breakfast, my video camera and I took a walk around town.
Moose dropping festival, Talkeetna, Alaska 2009
This is video of the moose droppings being, well, dropped. They shellac moose poop, paint it white, number then, then sell raffle tickets. The one that gets closest to the target, wins. Someone one $1500 today for getting closest to the mark. It's all luck for sure. Those little turds go everywhere!

Talkeetna Love-Lee Cabins - Premier Talkeetna Lodging
- Talkeetna Love-Lee Cabins (TLC) is the premier lodging destination in Talkeetna, Alaska. We opened our doors in 2015 and satisfied many customers in our first year. We learned years ago while working for Big-Box tour companies that people don’t always get the star treatment they deserve as individuals. Often they are treated as a small piece of a very large group. Getting “processed” down a tourism assembly line isn’t what we believe that people save up for all of their lives to experience on the trip of a lifetime. We believe that you take the trip of a lifetime to gather experiences you’ll never want to forget for the rest of your life. That is what we want to help you achieve here at TLC.
We have given careful thought to selecting high-end plumbing fixtures and jetted tubs (with furnished bath salts), comfortable hotel-quality beds and linens, furnished kitchens, wifi, and satellite television on large HD flat screen TV's. That’s what our cabins are about.
As far as service is concerned, we offer a BBQ grill station and campfire area where guests can gather around on a nice evening and have a great visit and mingle with other guests. We offer the ability to book many of the local tours right from TLC so you don’t have to run around trying to find out what’s available.
We also love to offer suggestions on all of the little-known things to see and do that most visitors really don’t get a chance to experience because they’re busy trying to fill their time finding a scheduled time to get “slotted into” somewhere.
Beautiful Downtown Talkeetna is located at Mile 14 at the end of the Talkeetna Spur Road. We are Mile 11.7, which is 2.3 miles before you get Downtown right on the Talkeetna Spur Road and the corner of Love-Lee Lane. There is a paved bike path that runs the entire length of the Spur Road, right next to our property. In addition, we are located centrally to many great walking-distance activities, such as many x-country ski trails, X-Y Lakes, Christiansen Lake, Denali and Alaska Range Lookout, Flying Squirrel Bakery & Café, Talkeetna Alaska Lodge Dining Room, and much more. Local taxi and shuttle services run 24-7 to keep you moving to where you need to be, especially for a fun day Downtown looking at all the fantastic eclectic and interesting shops, bars & restaurants. There is certainly lots to do and see on any day, in any conditions.
Talkeetna is the Native Athabascan word meaning “where three rivers meet”. We sit at the confluence of the Talkeetna, Chulitna and Little Susitna Rivers which make up the Big Susitna River which moves the third largest volume of water in North America.

Susitna Salmon Center, Talkeetna, Alaska
Artist Katherine England salmon totem project that will be unveiled at the Susitna Salmon Center on Wednesday. On Wednesday, July 23rd the Susitna Salmon Center in Downtown Talkeetna is celebrating its grand opening with fish-themed art and education, and they’re giving the community a chance to pitch in on a special art project. KTNA’s Phillip Manning visited the Susitna Salmon Center on Tuesday, and has this report:
One of the things the Susitna River is known for is its salmon. All five species can be found in the river, and sport fishing is common when state regulations allow. This week marks the grand opening of the Susitna Salmon Center in Talkeetna. The Center is on First Street near the ballfield in downtown. The building contains an art gallery with works by Alaskans as well as an education center. As part of its grand opening, the Susitna Salmon Center is unveiling a special piece of artwork dedicated to the river’s famous fish. It’s a six-foot salmon totem with each species represented by a sculpture mosaic.
