At Bethel Lutheran, we strive to...
...proclaim the Good News of forgiveness of sins and eternal life by grace through faith in the one true savior Jesus Christ.
...value faithfulness to the Word of God above self and outward success.
...recognize the one true master in all matters of faith and life, Jesus Christ our Savior.
...promote Christian unity by both proclaiming the Gospel and by calling attention to error.
...respect the privacy of its members in matters of Christian giving.
...seek out people in order to serve them.
Bethel Lutheran Church is part of the Church of the Lutheran Confession (CLC).
The CLC is a confessional Lutheran church body dedicated to proclaiming the Good News of Christ crucified for sinners. It is represented by congregations throughout the United States and Canada, as well as in Africa and India. Our teachings and practices are as narrow and broad as the Scriptures themselves, since we bow only to the authority of our Lord's inerrant Word. The salvation won for us through the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the driving force behind our efforts as a confessional Lutheran church.
Sioux City Makes Two National Lists
(SIOUX CITY, IA) Sioux City popped up among two national rankings today.
MSN.com features the metro city as the number two Most Affordable Place to Live in 2011.
That ranking follows yesterday's Top 15 rank for the area on Forbes' 2011 Best Places for Business and Careers list. MSN.com highlighted Sioux City's affordability, low crime rate and solid business atmosphere.
The Forbes yearly rankings take a look at communities with less than 250,000 people. It surveys a region's cost to do business, annual job growth and education for communities with less than 250,000 people.
We really have a lot to offer in a small package and so we're excited for these rankings and we just hope that each person in the community will go out and share our story, says Economic Development Specialist Anne Westra.
Westra says this positive ranking might have something to do with the area's slimmer unemployment rate compared to the coasts.
Route 20 Ramblers: Day 3 - Sioux City, IA
Day 3 saw the Route 20 Ramblers crossing the state of Iowa. The view included lots of corn. In between corn sightings, we stopped at a roadside produce stand, dropped by a Sears Auto Center and found a bear-themed diner in Sioux City.
Tomorrow we head north a bit to see Mt Rushmore and the Badlands before returning to Route 20 in Nebraska. Keep following our journey!
This team is taking part in Sears Exploring My America road trip from Chicago, IL to Casper, WY, which is part of the Coast to Coast route. They travel from August 15th to August 21st. Follow them along their trip by visiting exploringmyamerica.com and vote for a chance to win $100!
Where in Iowa is Jeff?...The Sequel
Here is the 2008 version of Where in Iowa is Jeff? From February to November, I logged 9,850 miles and collected 300 dancing clips. Between the 2007 and 2008 videos, I visited all 99 Iowa counties and drove somewhere between 15,000 and 18,000 miles.
Since last year focused on the top-tier Iowa spots, this years video visits more obscure Iowa places and enabled me to interact more with Iowans along the way. If you think you've seen all of Iowa, you are wrong. Keep looking; you'll be amazed at what you find.

Canyon Kid | TV Iowans Grew Up On | Preview Clip
For over 30 years, in the Sioux City area, Jim Henry reigned as the star of Canyon Kid's Kartoon Karnival.
Starting in the 1950s, it became popular for local television stations to produce their own programs to accompany children's cartoon shows. In Iowa, these programs were hosted by space commanders, river boat captains, clowns, puppets and even a doctor. Some of the shows lasted well into the 1990s. During this period, Iowans faithfully tuned in to watch children's television programs like Dr. Max and Mombo, Betty Lou and her Magic Window, The Floppy Show and many more. These locally-produced broadcasts taught important educational concepts, entertained and enthralled young viewers across the state.
TV Iowans Grew Up On is a nostalgic look back at these programs and the impact they had on young Iowans.
