काळ्या मातीच्या या महाराष्ट्रातील, कोयना नदीच्या खोऱ्यात, रानात वसलेला दुर्ग म्हणजे ‘किल्ले वासोटा’ ज्ञानेश्वरीत वासोट्याचा अर्थ ‘आश्रयस्थान’ असा दिला आहे. वासोट्यालाच ‘व्याघ्रगड’ असेही दुसरे नाव आहे. कोयना धरणाच्या पाणलोट क्षेत्राच्या दुर्गमतेमुळेच हा भाग वन्यजीवनाने समृद्ध बनला आहे.

As its a jungle trek, ensure that you remain in your group all the time. The jungle is filled with wild animals like wild dogs, sloth bears, leopards and even tigers.
This is every trekkers dream trek as the beauty of the fort and the surroundings will take your breath away.

स्वराज्य पाईक ग्रुप मुंबई
वासोटा ज्या डोंगरावर आहे तेथे वसिष्ठ ऋषींचा एक शिष्य राहत होता, म्हणून त्याने या डोंगराला आपल्या गुरूंचे नाव दिले, अशी आख्यायिका आहे. ’वसिष्ठ’चे पुढे वासोटा झाले असावे ,अशी कल्पना आहे. शिलाहारकालीन राजांनी या डोंगरावर किल्ला बांधला. या किल्ल्याची मूळ बांधणी ही शिलाहार वंशीय दुसर्‍या भोजराजाने केली असल्याचा उल्लेख आढळतो.
वासोट्याला जाण्यासाठी प्रामुख्याने दोन मार्ग आहेत. एक कोकणमधून आणि दुसरा घाटमाथ्यावरुन. कोकणातील 'चिपळूण'कडून वासोट्याच्या पश्चिम पायथ्याच्या चोरवणे या गावापर्यंत गाडीमार्ग असून या मार्गावर राज्य परिवहन मंडळाच्या (एस.टी.बस) गाड्या आहेत. चोरवणेपासून नागेश्वराच्या सुळक्याकडून वासोट्याकडे येता येते. दुसरा मार्ग हा जास्त सोयीचा आहे. सातारा-कास-बामणोली असा गाडीरस्ता असून यावर रा.प. च्या बसेस आहेत. बामणोली हे गाव शिवसागर जलाशयाच्या पूर्व काठावर आहे. येथून वासोट्याकडे जाण्यासाठी शिवसागर ओलांडावा लागतो. त्यासाठी बामणोलीमध्ये लॉचेस उपलब्ध होतात. येथून वनखात्याच्या परवानगीने वासोट्याकडे जाता येते..

**वासोटा किल्ल्यावर जाण्याआधी 2 दिवस या mobile number वर call करा...1)9422403808 (2)9403955408 ***येथे तुमची चांगल्या प्रकारे सोय होऊ शकते. तुम्हाला येथे 1]व्हेज/नाॕनव्हेज जेवन 2]चहा/नाष्टा 3]किल्ल्यावर घेऊन जाण्यासाठी जेवण (व्हेज) 4]बोटींग आणि फाॕरेष्ट तिकिट 5]राहण्यासाठी नदीच्या किनाऱ्यावर टेण्ड मिळतील. ********#######*********########*******जळू किडा अळीसारखा पण रंग काळा. आकार असतो. Size – 5-6 सेंटीमीटर
जळू काय करतो?
नकळत पायाला चिटकतो आणि कुठल्याही नसेला (vein) घट्ट पकडतो आणि “Y” section चा cut देतो.
त्यानंतर तो आपल्या तोंडातून २ प्रकारचे chemicals सोडतो
1) Anesthetic = याने जळू चावलेल्या ठिकाणी बधिरता आणतो.
2) Anti-coagulant= याने जळू रक्त पातळ करण्याचे chemical सोडतो.
नंतर तो रक्त पीत जातो. तो पोट भरेपर्यंत रक्त पितो. (20मिनिट ते 3 तास).
जळू नंतर फुगतो आणि मगच तो सोडतो.
ज्याला जळू चावतो त्याला कळत पण नाही कारण चावलेल्या ठिकाणी बधिरता असते.
जळू चिकटला आहे हे दिसल्यावर काय करावे =
त्याला हाताने काढून तो निघत नाही. काढताना फार त्रास होतो कारण त्याचे छोटे छोटे दात आत असतात.
जळूने स्वतः सोडावे म्हणून खालील कुठलीही १ गोष्ट टाकावी =
1)मीठ = टाकल्यावर तो आपोआप 2 सेकंदात पडतो.
2) तंबाखू चे पाणी
3) कापूर
4) Vinegar
5) साबणीचे पाणी
6)) लिम्बू पाणी
7) Few carbonated कोल्ड ड्रिंक
8)) Alcohol
9) आगीचा चटका
कारण यामुळे जाळूच्या त्वचेला दाह होतो.
जळू पडल्यानंतर काय करावे =
जळू पडल्यानंतर जखमेचे रक्त थांबत नाही (2तास ते 3 दिवस) कारण जळू ने anti-coaglulant ने रक्त पातळ केलेले असते.
हळद लाऊन फार फायदा होत नाही पण तरीही लावावी.
जखमेला मलम आणि कापूस लावून जखम घट्ट बांधावी.
जखम पुनः-पुनः उघडून बघू नये. जखमेला खाज आली तरी खाजवू नये.
पुढच्या दिवशी शरीरावर कुठेही लाल चटटे दिसले तर त्वरीत डॉक्टरांना संपर्क साधावा. ************************************ त्यासंबंधी एका जुन्या आर्येमध्ये वासोट्याचा गमतीचा उल्लेख आहे. तो असा --

छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांनी जावळी जिंकल्यानंतर आसपासचे अनेक गडकिल्ले घेतले पण वासोटा दूर होत असल्याने तो घेतला नाही , पुढे महाराज पन्हाळगडावर अडकले असताना त्यांनी आपल्या मुखत्यारीत वासोटा किल्ला दि. 6 जून 1660 रोजी घेतला
वासोट्याचे नाव महाराजांनी व्याघ्रगड असे ठेवले , याच्या दुर्गमते बद्दल पेशवाईत सुद्धा नोंद आहे
महाराज्यांच्या काळात या किल्ल्याचा वापर स्वराज्याचे तुरुंग म्हणून केला जात होता , याचे कारण येथील निर्जन्य आणि घनदाट असे अरण्य ! वाघ आणि बिबट्यासारखे नरभक्षक प्राणी तिथे आजही पाहायला मिळतात , शिवाय सरकारने येथे आज घडीला व्याघ्र प्रकल्प म्हणून ही घोषित केला आहे ।
वासोटा हा शरीर मनाची कसोटी करणारा ट्रेक एका दिवसात पूर्ण होतो !

I enjoyed winter night with low temperature and stargazing to its fullest because that was no moon night with camp fire and local made food.

This trek gave us two teachings:
1) Unplanned trip can become one of the best trips of your life. It is always exciting and enthralling as you don't know what's waiting for you.

महाराष्ट्रातील, कोयना नदीच्या खोर्‍य़ात, निबिड अरण्यात वसलेला दुर्ग म्हणजे ‘किल्ले वासोटा’. ज्ञानेश्वरीत वासोट्याचा अर्थ ’आश्रयस्थान’ असा दिला आहे. वासोट्यालाच ’व्याघ्रगड’ असेही दुसरे नाव आहे. कोयना धरणाच्या पाणलोट क्षेत्रात म्हणजेच शिवसागर जलाशयात येत असल्यामुळे हा भाग दुर्गम बनलेला आहे, तसेच वन्यजीवनाने समृद्ध बनला आहे.
इतिहास :
वासोटा किल्ल्याच्या प्राचीनत्वाचा शोध घेता आपल्याला वसिष्ठ ऋषींच्या काळापर्यंत मागे जावे लागेल. असे मानले जाते की, वसिष्ठ ऋषींचा एक शिष्य, अगस्ती ऋषी यांनी विंध्य पर्वत ओलांडून दक्षिणेकडचा मार्ग शोधला, सह्याद्रीच्या कोयना काठच्या त्या शिखरावर राहण्यास आला व त्याने आपल्या निवासी डोंगराला आपल्या गुरूंचे नाव दिले. कालांतराने या देशीच्या क्षत्रियांनी त्या डोंगराला तटाबुरूजाचे साज चढवून लष्करी ठाणे केले. त्या डोंगराचे परंपरागत ’वसिष्ठ’ हे नाव अपभ्रंश होऊन ‘वासोटा’ झाले. प्रत्यक्ष उल्लेखित नसला तरीही, हा किल्ला शिलाहारकालीन असावा. शिलाहारांच्या किल्ल्यांच्या नामावलीत ’वसंतगड’ या नावाने उल्लेखिलेला किल्ला हा वासोटा असावा. मराठी साम्राज्याच्या छोट्या बखरीवरून शिवरायांनी जावळी विजयानंतर वासोटा घेतला असे सांगितले जाते, पण ते खरे नाही जावळी घेताना, जावळीतील तसेच कोकणातील इतर किल्ले शिवरायांनी घेतले. पण वासोटा दूर असल्याने किल्लेदाराच्या हाती राहीला. अफझल वधानंतर काढलेल्या मोहिमेतही वासोटा किल्ला येत नव्हता. पुढे शिवराय पन्हाळगडावर अडकले असताना, आपल्या मुखत्यारीत मावळातील पायदळ पाठवून त्यांनी वासोटा किल्ला दि ६ जून १६६० रोजी घेतला. सन १६६१ मध्ये पकडलेल्या इंग्रज कैद्यांपैकी फॅरन व सॅम्युअल यांना वासोट्यावर कैदेत ठेवण्यात आले होते. पुढे १६७९ मध्ये वासोटा किल्ल्यावर २६,००० रुपये सापडले. पुढच्या काळात १७०६ मध्ये पंतप्रतिनिधींच्या उपपत्नी ताई तेलिणीने हा किल्ला आपल्या हातात घेतला. पुढीलवर्षी पेशव्यांचे सेनापती बापू गोखले यांनी ताई तेलिणी बरोबर लढाई केली. ताई तेलिणीने आठदहा महिने प्रखर झुंज देऊन किल्ला लढवला. १७३० मध्ये वासोटा किल्ला बापू गोखल्यांच्या हाती पडला.

Routes & cost :
Vasota is to the south of Pune near Satara. Head on NH 4 from Pune to reach Satara which is at a distance of 110 kms from Pune Station. The State Bus Transport has many buses plying on this route, so the bus frequency to Satara from Pune is high. Once you reach Satara bus station, you need to reach the village Bamnoli which is the base village and at a distance of approx 40 kms from Satara.
From Bamnoli there are boats which will take you to the base of the fort. 1 to 1.5 hrs boat ride from Bamnoli, in the SHIVSAGAR LAKE water will take you the fort base to start your trek. The boat ride will cost you Rs. 3000 [+taxes] [1 -12 persons]. Get a larger group for trekking as Rs.3000 is the default rate for 1 to 12 persons. Along the way you would get some breath taking views of the mountains surrounding the lake.

इतिहास : वासोटा किल्ला प्राचीनत्वाचा शोध घेता आपल्याला वरिष्ठ ऋषींच्या काळापर्यंत मागे जावे लागेल असे मानले जाते की, वरिष्ठ ऋषींचा कोणी एक शिष्य, अगस्ती ऋषी यांनी विंध्य पर्वत ओलांडून दक्षिणेकडचा मार्ग शोधला. सह्याद्रीच्या कोयना काठच्या त्या शिखरावर राहण्यास आला व त्याने आपल्या निवासी डोंगराला आपल्या गुरूंचे नाव दिले. कालांतराने या देशीच्या क्षत्रियांनीत्या डोंगराला तटाबुरूजाचे साज चढवून लष्करी ठाणे केले. त्या डोंगराचे परंपरागत ‘वरिष्ठ’ हे नाव अपभ्रंश होऊन ‘वासोटा ’ झाले. प्रत्यक्ष उल्लेखित नसला तरीही, हा किल्ला शिलाहारकालीन असावा. शिलाहारांच्या किल्ल्यांच्या नामावलीत ‘वंसतगड’ या नावाने उल्लेखिलेला किल्ला हा वासोटा असावा. मराठी साम्राज्याच्या छोट्या बखरीवरून शिवरायांनी जावळी विजयानंतर वासोटा घेतला असे सांगितले जाते. पण ते खरे नाही. जावळी घेताना, जावळीतील तसेच कोकणातील इतर किल्ले शिवरायांनी घेतले पण वासोटा दूर सल्याने किल्लेदाराच्या हाती राहीला. अफझल वधानंतर काढलेल्या मोहिमेतही वासोटा वासोटा किल्ला येत नव्हता. पुढे शिवराय पन्हाळगडवर अडकलेले असताना, आपल्या मुखत्यारीत मावळातील पायदळ पाठवून त्यांनी वासोटा किल्ला दि. ६ जून १६६० रोजी घेतला. सन १६६१ मध्ये पकडलेल्या इंग्रज कैद्यांपैकी फॅरन व सॅम्युअल यांना वासोट्यावर कैदेत ठेवण्यात आले होते. पुढे १६७९ मध्ये वासोटा किल्ल्यावर २६,००० रुपये सापडले. पुढच्या काळात १७०६ मध्ये पंतप्रतिनिधींच्या उपपत्नी ताली तेलिणीने हा किल्ला आपल्या हातात घेतला. पुढीलवर्षी पेशव्यांचे सेनापती बापू गोखले यांनी ताई तेलिणी बरोबर लढाई केली. ताई तेलिणीने आठ-दहा महिने प्रखर झुंज देऊन किल्ला लढवला. १७३० मध्ये वासोटा किल्ला बापू गोखल्यांच्या हाती पडला.
