Mason Engel - Book 50 (bookstore road trip music video 2019)
THE STORY: I visited 50 indie bookstores in 50 days, asking for feedback on my self-published novel, 2084. Throughout the trip, cruising in my 1995 Mercury Tracer from Indiana to California, I grew to appreciate the importance of the indies. This is my tribute to them (I use the names of all 50 stores I visited in verses 1 and 2).

Verse 1
Wait Mas tell em what the breakdown is. May 8 the date the kid laid down in
His own bed straight amazed made it round this nation. My blue suede dame in range of mountains.
Thunder ain’t about this, struggled but she wanted it punchin accelerator way down quick.
Just a trailer about the whole later trip. I’ll say it first, Thunder made it, we made it.
Day one, day after Monday, take off around 1:00 way west, and book one gave copy to the cop
That caught me in a tough place, pump brakes, slowin down, chillin, hittin B-town up late.
Behind schedule already. I rush came lookin for the duhsplay: Book Corner. No complaints
When I walk in with the pitch. This iteration needs an update, hit the interstate
Evansville in my feels but I will keep west, hittin St. Louis, got the Novel next
Door Neighbor, appeal, test, changin the flavor for Subterranean. I make my way then
Rainy Day no rainin, Our Daily Nada, k, see them I’m wavin and changin the scene
I went to Raven. Tap tap like Edgar A. said, hi
Poed out now poor campin. State Kansas park a wind storm landed, can’t warm I cannot stand it,
But I’m bolder than when I began with. Come through Boulder and snaggin a sandwich it’s a rareness.
I’m a little embarrassed, but that is on me. I hit up that Book Mall B., Stack City and Coffee,
Tattered Cover on East Colfax—Denver three. We slacked only ten deep I will be back increase the speed.
Verse 2
It’s grand nice Out West always Bright. Sights set on Poisoned Pen then side step.
Try exit the interstate and say hi to twins of Changing Hands. The driver might rest but sands on the horizon.
It’s Cali Library feelin wild, Catapult me high like Calipari how I’m stridin
along the lines of my route no flyin. I just Run for Cover run to sea La Playa.
Had to leave though you know I needed to swing through Lido Village in Newport Beach. We
Visit the Stories, olfactory café beans. What’s more I pitched The Last Store but that ain’t store fifty.
Almost thirty left. I received the rec from Romina: Vroman’s, see Pasadena, so Superior. Meet
Leigh and come read Kepler’s Magazines. Repeat on Books Inc., one to Green
Apple. Seen the Borderlands of sixth street San Francisco. Booksmith, yo, it’s so fantastic.
I ran from there so doggedly to Dog Eared, see the hills all ramp up, no challenge.
The Avid Reader, went to Capital: Sac, then Sundance after that. In
Reno magic, woah, Grass did promo that, pause. Imma Pioneer a new style next bars.
It’s all about the books. King’s English Bookshop, Francie Finch Bookshop, stop, on my book tour at Our Bookstore.
Bookworm, Beeveradale Books, 57th Street Books, switch, Unabridged Books, or, Sandmeyer Bookstore.
Volumes Book Café, onto Main Street Books, Indy Reads Books, Irvington and Vinyl sling books.
That’s a cool joint. If you don’t think we need these stores, let me change your Viewpoint.
Verse 3
Reverse Logic how I write a book and then I try to, uh, rap some.
Different topic change the page just like the, uh, black one (
This verse on ideas readers try to attract them.
If you’re watchin saw the team we like to imagine:
education, innovation, and support from the local level.
ABA got courses for the stores, make me hopeful. Let the
system decentralize to have more content from chosen sellers.
Amazon a spider try the starfish to cope with that dude.
Next we’re talkin on the ground floor, how to make most effective
use of all the space, convening for frequently co-events with
writers, open mic, try co-work, or target the romances in
search of date nights. “Hey guys try the store (gallery show is separate).”
But even all that stuff is not enough, no.
High margin businesses they get the bump, so
maybe we subsidize indies at once, oh.
I will do some research hear these words though.

Pie 'n Burger, and its owner Michael Osborne are staple in the city of Pasadena. The restaurant opened some 53 years ago, and Michael came aboard about 10 years later. He has overseen and maintained this old school-styled diner, and made it something worth trying. I indulge in a classic American cheese cheesburger, and delicious pumpkin pie. Later in the video Michael gives us a brief history of the restaurant. Hope you guys enjoy.
