According to measurements made in 1960, the average depth of the lake was 4 to 5 meters, with a maximum depth of 7.5 metres (25 ft).Singing Sand Dune (Mingsha Hill) starts from Mogao Grottoes in the east. It is 40km from east to west, and 20 from south to north. Mingsha (whistling sands) Hill and Crescent Spring scenic spots are 7 kilometers away from downtown Dunhuang and cover a total area of around 200 square kilometers.

10 Breathtaking Photos of Ghost Town, Xinjiang
The Ghost Town” or “Ghost City” in the desert is situated in Wuerhe, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) away from Karamay city, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and takes an area of 100,000 sq meters (10 hectares).
Being one of the few typical wind erosion physiognomies in the world, the Ghost Town has become a famous tourist area for its unique landform and the howling wind.
In ancient times, there was no road linking the area to the outside world and there were no habitations in the surrounding area. When great winds or sand storms rose, they roared through the town like howling ghosts with sand and dust blocking out the sky.
The Ghost Town was once a freshwater lake in the Cretaceous Period 120 million years ago. Back then, the lake was vast, the climate was mild. It is a paradise for the dinosaur family as the fossils of Kelmayisaurus, Wuerhosaurus and Dsungaripterus” were found here.

Crescent Moon Spring, Gansu, China [THIS IS CHINA #1]
Welcome to Dunhuang China! I'll be posting quite a few videos from this far north-western Desert town in the upcoming months from my excursion last year. I was invited to photograph some of the most rare caves and historical features in the world at Mogao Grottoes, a Unesco World Heritage site, the site of the largest cache of ancient Buddhist art in the world! I became part of the first group ever to photograph the inside of the cave system as it's very old and has been protected since 1944 by the Dunhuang Research Academy. Photography is STRICTLY PROHIBITED, so this was an extremely rare glimpse!
In this video, I'll share some visions of the desert oasis that resides on the edges of the Taklimakan Desert named Crescent Moon Spring (月牙泉 or Yuèyá Quán), which has been a tourist spot since the early 200's... yeah, 200's BC!
It's truly a remarkable site, and I'd recommend it whole heartedly if you are in Dunhuang, though you don't need to arrive at 5am!

I have witnessed the beauty of this country and will stop at nothing to share this with the western world. I will continue to travel this country until I have answered my questions about each Province, Autonomous Region, Special Economic Zone, and area.
