National Park Attractions In Van Lear
1. Cumberland Gap National Historical ParkMiddlesboro The Cumberland Gap is a narrow pass through the long ridge of the Cumberland Mountains, within the Appalachian Mountains, near the junction of the U.S. states of Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee. Famous in American colonial history for its role as a key passageway through the lower central Appalachians, it was an important part of the Wilderness Road and is now part of the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park. Long used by Native Americans, the Cumberland Gap was brought to the attention of settlers in 1750 by Thomas Walker, a Virginia physician and explorer. The path was used by a team of frontiersmen led by Daniel Boone, making it accessible to pioneers who used it to journey into the western frontiers of Kentucky and Tennessee. a simple life in the appalachian mountains - all chapters
YouTube just recently granted me the privilege of uploading longer videos, thus I was able to string together all three chapters of previously released chapters of 'a simple life in the appalachian mountains' plus new footage at the front and back ends that was not included in the earlier released videos. This video represents our July 1st 2001 visit with Gene & Hansel at their homestead in eastern TN and in the lovely appalachian mountains complete from start to finish. I hope that you enjoy this experience as much as we did. Thank you for watching.
Salyersville, Ky | Kentucky Life | KET
Kentucky Life visits the Magoffin County town of Salyersville. Located on the Licking River, the town (population 1,883) was established out of the former Adamsville in 1860, the same year the county was formed out of parts of Morgan, Johnson and Floyd counties.
A big draw here is the Pioneer Village, where the Magoffin County Historical Society has rebuilt original log cabins—some dating back to the early 1800s—to create a living history museum. The society also runs a genealogical library and honors a different family each year for Founders Days.
The town sits in the Eastern Coal Field, and a major employer here is Joy Global, a mining equipment manufacturer with operations worldwide.
Salyersville is rebuilding after an EF3 tornado on March 2, 2012, damaged schools, homes, and several Mountain Parkway businesses. With the work of untold numbers of people, the town is slowly getting back on its feet. Signs of renewal include groundbreaking for a new church, the reopening of the Subway restaurant, and the reopening of an auto parts store.

Hank Boyhood Home in Georgiana, Alabama
Hiram King (Hank) Williams (September 17, 1923--January 1, 1953) was an American country music performer. Though unable to read or write music to any significant degree, he came to be regarded as among the greatest country music stars of all time. The Museum in Georgiana does a fantastic job collecting and preserving memorabilia of Hank.
