Merida, Spain - la ciudad de Merida, España
The city of Merida, Spain, is mainly known for its roman monuments. However, it is an interesting town in its own, with a animated Plaza Mayor, an old arab fortress (alcazaba) and a roman bridge crossing the wide Guadiana river. It has also a beutiful parador located in an old conventy from the 17th century. Other interesting sites in the city are the Arch of August, the Temple of Diana (re-used to built a palace in the 16th century) and the Chucrh of Santa Eulalia, with an accesible crypt.

la ciudad de Merida es famosa sobre todo por sus monumentos romanos. No obstante, tiene interés por si misma, con su animada Plaza Mayor, la lacazaba arabe y el puente romano sobre el rio Guadian. Tiene también un parador situado en un antiguo convento del siglo XVII.
Otros monumentos importantes son el arco de Augusto, el templo de Diana (reusado para construir un palacio en el siglo XVI y la iglesia de Santa Eulalia, con una cripta visitable.

Nuestros descubridores podrían haberse quedado en este #minubetrip tomando jamón en las dehesas extremeñas, pero no fue así. Sabían que la provincia de Badajoz tenía mucho más que llenarles el estómago.
Empezaron en el centro de Llerena y recorrieron desde el subsuelo de las Cuevas de Fuentes de León hasta subir al pico más alto de la provincia para alcanzar el Monasterio de Tentudía.
En su viaje se encontraron con un patrimonio que les dejo con la boca abierta, como las sorprendentes imágenes de la que conocen como la Capilla Sixtina de Extremadura, en la Ermita de Ara. O la falla que divide la enorme extensión verde y que hace tiempo también fue una: mina la Jayona.
Y terminaron, rememorando el pasado frente al anfiteatro de la ciudad romana de Regina.

Extremadura es la comunidad autónoma con más kilómetros de costa interior y con mayores reservas de agua dulce del conjunto de Europa. Extremadura guarda para el visitante numerosas sorpresas en un entorno natural marcado por el agua: al norte las grandes sierras del Sistema Central, en el centro y al este, el imponente macizo de las Villuercas y al sur Sierra Morena. Solo su nombre lo dice todo Extrema (Extrem) dura (Hard), un clima infernal. Los veranos con un calor insoportable y los inviernos con un frío intenso. Pero a pesar de ello o gracias a ello la región es la gran joya de España. No es solo una joya por la cantidad de embalses por m2, si también por la calidad de los mismos. Toda la franja comprendida entre los grandes ríos Guadiana y Tajo está repleta de embalses pequeños y grandes de una calidad extraordinaria.
Extremadura reparte sus aguas entre tres cuencas hidrográficas, la del Tajo, la del Guadiana y la del Guadalquivir, aunque se estructura en torno a dos ríos que nacen fuera de la región, el Tajo y el Guadiana. Resulta enorme la extensión de agua que cubren los 28 embalses de la Comunidad Autonómica de Extremadura (cuatro de ellos entre los diez de mayor capacidad del país: La Serena con 3.219 hectómetros cúbicos, y Cijara 1.505, en la provincia de Badajoz, y el Alcántara con 3.160 y Valdecañas 1.446 en la de Cáceres), sumando más de 1.400 kilómetros de orillas. Para igualar esos 1.400 y pico de kilómetros habría que sumar las costas marítimas de siete provincias sureñas: los 122 de la de Huelva, 285 de Cádiz, 208 de Málaga, 81 de Granada, 249 de Almería, 274 de Murcia, y 244 kilómetros de las de Alicante.
Costas Dulces las llama el turismo local incipiente, que fomenta los deportes náuticos. Tales son de gigantescos los embalses de Extremadura, comunidad conocida por sus numerosos e importantes atractivos turísticos, pero no tanto, dado lo reciente de su promoción, por los sorprendentes y sugestivos 1.400 kilómetros de Costas Dulces.
