The Battle of Almonacid was fought on 11 August 1809 during the Peninsular War between Sébastiani's IV Corps of the French Peninsular Army, which had withdrawn from the Battle of Talavera to defend Madrid, and the Spanish Army of La Mancha under General Venegas. After the decisive charges of Polish uhlans, the battle resulted in a French victory.

Amalgro is a name of Arabic origin referring to the local red clay, which is one of the materials used in the plaza mayor. Probably the settlement began as a small Muslim castle, possibly on the site now occupied by the hermitage of San Juan. The fief was bestowed on Gonzalo Yáñez de Noboa, ninth Grand Master of the Order of Calatrava, after the Battle of the Navas de Tolosa, and the grant was confirmed by Ferdinand III in 1222. Tablas de Daimiel National Park is a wetland on the La Mancha plain, a mainly arid area in the province of Ciudad Real. With an area of about 3,000 ha, the park is the smallest of Spain's fifteen national parks. The protected area is in the process of being expanded outside the original nature reserve to include neighbouring dryland farming areas. El castillo de Almonacid se encuentra en el municipio de Almonacid de Toledo, provincia de Toledo, a 20 km de la capital, Toledo por la Autovía de los Viñedos. Se eleva sobre un monte que puede verse desde decenas de kilómetros, desde donde se observa un antiguo camino a La Mancha desde su situación estratégica.

El castillo de Almonacid se encuentra en el municipio de Almonacid de Toledo, provincia de Toledo, a 20 km de la capital, Toledo. Se eleva sobre un monte que puede verse desde decenas de kilómetros.

La primera referencia documental sobre este castillo data del año 848 y es de origen musulmán, cuando servía como punto estratégico de vigilancia de un antiguo camino a La Mancha.

Los muros del castillo de Almonacid son elevados y almenados, protegidos por una barrera exterior y un camino de ronda. En el interior sólo queda la torre del homenaje, situada en el centro del amplio recinto. La torre tiene tres plantas con bóvedas de ladrillo. Existen restos de dos aljibes, un silo y algunas habitaciones. También son destacables sus triples troneras.
