Basilica of St Bassiano and archeological site of Lodi Vecchio
Lodi Vecchio is 10 km west of Lodi, in the site of the Roman town of Laus Pompeia, destroyed by the Milanese in 1111 and in 1158, when the people of Lodi decided to found a new city on the banks of the river Adda.
In the archaeological site of Lodi Vecchio there are some remains of the ancient cathedral, as well as some findings are collected in the Museum recently set up. This was the place where the first bishop of the newly formed Diocese of Lodi decided to build its first church.
San Bassiano built, along an important road of a pilgrimage, the church that was rebuilt in the tenth and in the fourteenth century, first with Romanesque and then Gothic.
The basilica, dedicated initially to the XII Apostles, was dedicated to St. Bassiano after his death. Inside numerous paintings depicting mainly the agricultural life and the beautiful frescoes in the apse depicting the Christ Pantocrator.

Bassano del Grappa (Venetian: Basan or Bassan/Bassàn (italianized form)) is a city and comune, in the Vicenza province, in the region Veneto, in northern Italy. It bounds the communes of Cassola, Marostica, Solagna, Pove del Grappa, Romano d'Ezzelino, Campolongo sul Brenta, Conco, Rosà, Cartigliano and Nove. Some neighbourhoods of these communes have become in practice a part of the urban area of Bassano, so that the population of the whole urban area is higher than the population of Bassano proper.
The artist Jacopo Bassano was born, worked, and died in Bassano and took it as his surname.

Lodi Vecchio dista 10 chilometri da Lodi, nel luogo in cui sorgeva la città romana di Laus Pompeia, distrutta dai milanesi in due occasioni nel 1111 e nel 1158, anno in cui i lodigiani decisero di fondare una nuova città sulle sponde dell'Adda.
Nell'area archeologica di Lodi Vecchio sono visibili alcuni resti dell'antica cattedrale, così come sono raccolti alcuni reperti nel Museo di recente allestito. Fu questo il luogo in cui il primo vescovo della neonata diocesi di Lodi decise di costruire la sua prima chiesa.
San Bassiano edificò lungo un'importante strada di pellegrinaggio una basilica che venne ricostruita nel X e nel XIV secolo, prima con forme romaniche e poi gotiche, con elementi caratteristici quali la facciata a vento e le bifore a tutto cielo.
La basilica inizialmente consacrata ai XII Apostoli, fu dedicata a San Bassiano dopo la sua morte. All'interno numerosi dipinti che ritraggono soprattutto la vita agricola e il bellissimo affresco del catino absidale raffigurante il Cristo Pantocratore.

The church of Saint Francis in Lodi
The church of San Francesco is one of the oldest churches in Lodi, built by the Franciscans in the place of the Pocalodis' palace. Inside the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of Lodi fourteenth-century painting of great artistic value, including the beautiful chapel of San Bernardino influence of Giotto.
Since the nineteenth the church is officiated by Barnabite that established the College, prestige of the city of Lodi. Inside a full bilingual school from nursery to secondary school. There you can also find a rich natural history museum, the collection of scientific instruments and a library.
The church and the college have always been symbols of Lodi, the church in particular, thanks to its incomplete façade, is the backdrop to many depictions of the city.
