Maenza is a comune in the Province of Latina in the Italian region Lazio, located about 70 kilometres southeast of Rome and about 25 kilometres east of Latina. Maenza borders the following municipalities: Carpineto Romano, Giuliano di Roma, Priverno, Prossedi, Roccagorga, Supino. It is home to a castle, originally built as a watchtower in the 12th-13th centuries, and enlarged in the 16th century.

Maenza Italy, Hill Town In Latina Province

Exploring Maenza. I usually prefer to keep the natural sounds of the towns, but while filming this there was a crazy wind so here it is with music. I'm quite satisfied with the dramatic result though. The town's dome appears at around 1:56. Those at 4:40 are Mussolini and Hitler at a house entrance. This province in the south of Rome (called Latina) was swampy in the past and during Mussolini's era it was dried and made suitable for agricolture. In fact most watermelons that we get in this period, in Rome and surroundings, come from this province. They are harvested by indian immigrants who are really exploited, but that's another story. Anyway this province is historically known for being politically right wing, although recently the political scenarios are changing quite rapidly in Italy.
