Beauly is a town in the Kilmorack Parish of the Scottish County of Inverness, on the River Beauly, 10 miles west of Inverness by the Far North railway line. The town is now within the Highland council area. The land around Beauly is fertile - historically corn was grown extensively and more recently fruit has successfully been farmed. The town historically traded in coal, timber, lime, grain and fish.
Beauly is the site of the Beauly Priory, or the Priory Church of the Blessed Virgin and John the Baptist, founded in 1230 by John Byset of the Aird, for Valliscaulian monks. Following the Reformation, the buildings (except for the church, which is now a ruin) passed into the possession of Lord Lovat. Beauly is also the site of Lovat Castle, which once belonged to the Bissets, but was presented by James VI, to Hugh Fraser, 5th Lord Lovat and later demolished.
In 1994 Simon Fraser, 15th Lord Lovat sold Beaufort castle to Ann Gloag (director of the Stagecoach Group) to pay off debts. In 2002, the Beauly railway station, built in 1862 and closed in 1960, was renovated and reopened. Beauly is in the Aird and Loch Ness Ward of the Highland Council.
The extensive ruins of the abbey church of Beauly Priory with funerary monuments (notably including those of the Mackenzie family) are managed by Historic Scotland. The town is known for the Beauly Shinty Club, its shinty team, who have won the Camanachd Cup three times and have been World Champions once. To the south-east of Beauly is the church of Kirkhill, Highland containing the vault of the Lovats as well as a number of septs of the Mackenzies, including Seaforth and Mackenzies of Gairloch.
3 miles (5 km) south of Beauly is Beaufort Castle, the chief seat of the Lovats, a modern mansion in the Scottish baronial style. It occupies the site of a fortress erected in the time of Alexander II, which was besieged in 1303 by Edward I. This was replaced by several castles in succession. One of these, Castle Dounie, was attacked and burned by the forces of Oliver Cromwell in 1650 and razed again by the royal army of Prince William, Duke of Cumberland in 1746 during the Jacobite Rising. Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat witnessed this latter conflagration of his castle from a neighbouring hill (he then fled and took refuge in the Highlands before his capture on Loch Morar).

Highwinds Self Catering is a lovely, substantial detached house near Fort William, Inverness-shire.
As cosy for two as it is ideal for larger groups with it's two lounges and large kitchen. It's ideal for one or two families and is set in a picturesque half acre garden where you can enjoy outstanding views to the north face of Ben Nevis and the Nevis Range.
Highwinds is set in Torlundy just 3 miles from Fort William, the outdoor capital of the U.K. Fort William has a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants.
This is a fabulous area for Walking, Climbing, Salmon fishing on the River Lochy from April-October with Ben Nevis as the backdrop is there a more idilic highland scene, Trout fishing nearby, pony trekking, mountain biking on the world championship course, Fort William 18 Hole Golf Course is under a mile away, a great day can be had at The Ice Factor which has the largest indoor ice wall in the world, sailing, canoeing and skiing at the Nevis Range in winter.

Die Megalithanlagen Clava Cairns - Balnuaran of Clava bei Inverness, Schottland
Clava Cairns sind eine lokal begrenzte Form endneolithischer Megalithanlagen in Schottland. Zwölf von diesen nur etwa 50 artifiziellen Rundhügel liegen in der Grafschaft Inverness-shire. Die bekanntesten und namengebenden sind die drei nicht besonders großen Balnuaran of Clava, östlich von Inverness. Ein verirrtes Phänomen stellt der Cairn von Carmahome auf der Isle of Arran dar.
Innerhalb eines Kreises aus megalithischen Randsteinen wurde der Hügel aus Schotter aufgeführt, der an den Grundriss späterer Breochs erinnert. Im Inneren befindet sich die mittels Megalithen gebildete runde Kammer, zu der ein gefasster Gang führt. Regelmäßig sind Clava Cairns von einem äußeren Steinkreis umgeben, der den Cairn in 10–15 Metern Abstand umgibt. Die in der Höhe abgestuften Steine dieses aus relativ wenigen Steinen gebildeten Kreises haben ihre größte Höhe gegenüber dem Zugang zum Cairn, der nach Südwesten zeigt. Diese Merkmale erscheinen auch bei den bronzezeitlichen Ring Cairns, die im gleichen Gebiet vorkommen. Daher wird angenommen, dass die strukturelle Ähnlichkeit auf eine zeitnahe Entstehung verweist. Ein weiterer Kontext besteht mit den Steinkreisen am River Dee, die ebenfalls in der Höhe abgestuft sind.
Die Steinhügel der Balnuaran of Clava sind flach und die Gänge daher, anders als beim Corrimony Cairn, ungedeckt. Corrimony ist ein gut erhaltenes Exemplar, in einem Kreis aus elf Menhiren, der bei Cannich einige km westlich des Loch Ness liegt. Hier findet sich auch ein Stein mit Cup-and-Ring-Markierungen. Einige der Steine auf dem Gelände bei Clava in Lagmore West und beim Cairn von Gask sind ebenfalls mit Schälchen versehen. Avielochan, 17 km nordöstlich von Grantown-on-Spey (Morayshire) und Cairn Irenan, sieben Kilometer nordnordwestlich von Dingwall (Ross-shire) sind wegen des Bewuchses schlecht erkennbare Exemplare des Clava-Typs.
