Castlepoint is a small beachside town on the Wairarapa coast of the Wellington Region of New Zealand. It is home to a lighthouse which stands near the top of the northern end of a reef. The reef is about one kilometer long. At the southern end of the reef, there is an island known locally as seagull island, due to its large population of seagulls. The southern side of Castle Rock is known as Christmas Bay. Castlepoint is approximately one hour's drive from Masterton. The Manawatu Gorge runs for 6-9 km between the Ruahine and Tararua Ranges in the south part of the North Island of New Zealand, linking the Manawatu and Hawke's Bay regions. It lies to the northeast of Palmerston North. Its western end is near the small town of Ashhurst and its eastern end is close to the town of Woodville.

Stonehenge Aotearoa, built by members of The Phoenix Astronomy Society near Carterton, New Zealand, is a modern adaptation of the Stonehenge ruins on the Salisbury Plain of England. The henge, built over 2 years and opened on 12 February 2005 by Nobel Laureate Professor Alan MacDiarmid, contains 24 pillars and is 30 metres in diameter and about 4 metres high. The pillars are capped with lintels, completing the circle, and a 5 metres -tall obelisk marks the center of the henge. The modern henge was designed to demonstrate how ancient peoples used such constructions to understand astronomy. Castle Point Lighthouse, Wairarapa, New Zealand

Castle Point Lighthouse is a lighthouse near the village of Castlepoint in the Wellington Region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is owned and operated by Maritime New Zealand.

The light was built in 1913 and was originally fueled by oil. In 1954 the oil lamp was replaced with an electric one powered by a local diesel generator. This was subsequently replaced by a connection to the mains grid in 1961. The nearby Castlepoint beach is popular with holiday makers and the lighthouse itself became a popular tourist attraction, acquiring the nickname The Holiday Light.

The light was fully automated in 1988 and is now managed from a central control room in Wellington.

We are still travelling the Gisborne region of New Zealand, otherwise known as Eastland, Tairawhiti Gisborne, the East Coast of New Zealand or the East Cape. The first stop on our East Cape travel itinerary is the East Cape Lighthouse where it is the one of the first places to see the first sunrise in the world. The East Cape Lighthouse is a New Zealand lighthouse you can’t miss.

Next, we check out the “historic tree” otherwise known as the oldest pohutakawa tree in New Zealand, the pohutukawa tree in Te Araroa. After that, it’s just a few awesome beaches and bays in the East Cape including Waihau Bay.

Had this place on my list before I stepped foot in New Zealand. Along the lakeshore in Wanaka sits this lonely tree that is visited regularly by tourists.
