Two Minutes of Slow in Alsace, France
Explore the valleys and vineyards of Alsace nestled between the Vosges Mountains and the mighty River Rhine, our self-guided walking and cycling holidays offer a delightful fusion of Franco-German culture, a wonderful variety of scenery, and an array of subtly delicious wines that are a fine match for the region’s distinctive and delicious cuisine. This much overlooked area is both fascinating and beautiful, rich in culture, gastronomy and heritage, with fairy tale castles and picturesque villages. What’s not to love about the Alsace? We offer a superb, moderately challenging walking holiday through vineyards, woodland and hills:
If seeing the Alsace on two wheels is more your thing, then how about our wonderful gentle self-guided cycling holiday; following leisurely routes along the beautiful Alsace Wine Route – take quiet country roads, cycle paths and vineyard tracks staying in three welcoming hotels in Equisheim, Kayersberg and Bergheim – ideally located to discover the fascinating and beautiful area. The cycle routes are flexible with options to opt for longer more challenging days by cycling up to hill-top châteaux that boast magnificent views across the valley. A really wonderful discovery on two wheels.
This small corner of France oozes charm: amid a rolling carpet of assiduously tended vines are impossibly pretty villages with half-timbered buildings that sprout colourful displays of geraniums and where remarkable storks’ nests are delicately balanced on pointed church spires. The forested slopes to the west, sprinkled with crumbling castles and criss-crossed by attractive walking trails, only add to the allure; while the celebrated gastronomy – with dishes such as ham hock and steaming choucroute as likely to be served with a foaming glass of beer as a luscious local wine – provides ample reward for a walking adventure par excellence. If you would like to combine our walking and cycling holidays then take a look at our wonderful Alsace Discovery – A Wheels and Wanderings holiday.
No visit to Alsace is complete without a stay in the handsome city of Colmar. We offer an optional two night add-on at the 4* Grand Hotel Bristol right in the heart of the city, just a short walk from the historic Old Town.

Le Carnaval de Strasbourg | Carnival parade in France | Grande cavalcade | Travel Vlog | Sudha'z WOW
Witches, waders, giant puppets and other monsters invade the streets of Strasbourg for a grand parade.
Every year, the city of Strasbourg vibrates to the rhythm of the Carnival, composed of unusual tanks, musicians, witches and strange creatures. A family show not to be missed.
The Carnival of Strasbourg is certainly the most important of the region, a real institution in Alsace. It attracts between 30,000 and 40,000 people every year!
In a whirlwind of colors, confetti and the rhythm of energetic music, the Carnival parade happened on Sunday 26 February at 14:11 precise, before invading the streets of the city center!
On a 2 km journey, a procession with the theme Rolls, Turns and Flies!, Composed of 13 rolling objects, fantastic street characters, masked and musical groups, will stroll around to the delight of the little ones And great.
The cavalcade was started at 2:11 pm at the Parc de l'Etoile to continue along the rue de la Brigade Alsace-Lorraine, Place d'Austerlitz, Rue des Orphelins, Place and Rue de Zurich, Quai des Bateliers, Rue du Vieux Marché aux Poissons. Place Gutenberg around 16:00.
Why the Strasbourg Carnival starts at 2:11 pm?
Historically the Rhine Carnival began on November 11 at 11:11, and Strasbourg wished to keep the tradition of the number 11.
There are several theories about the origin of this date and the timetable:
11 is the number considered since the Middle Ages as the most crazy figure if one can say this (närrische Zahl) because it is one more than the 10 commandments and one less than the 12 apostles. With the number 11, the 10 commandments are transgressed. Even now, the committee of this carnival is composed of 11 mad (Elferrat = Council of 11).
The date of 11 November has been set for 19 th century only. The Rhine region first underwent the French occupation with the revolutionary troops and later Napoleon, then the Prussian occupation.
It is called elf in German, and these three letters recall the principle of the Revolution: equality, freedom, fraternity. It was therefore a question of letting go of the French occupiers.

Ep 8 of 11 Motorcycle Tour of Switzerland Day 6 The ride to Metz France Fat Lad on a Bike
Includes subtitles
Day 6 starts off very wet as we end our stay in Interlaken, Switzerland and head north to Luxembourg only to change our minds half way there and decide to head for a campsite we have used before in Metz, France beside a river.
This episode also showcases Pip's off road skills showing that the BMW R1200RT really is an all rounder lol.
For any of you interested in using either the Interlaken campsite we used or the one in Metz that is featured in this episode I have included the co-ordinates for both below for use in Sat Navs.
I would HIGHLY recommend them and found that both were very Biker friendly.
