Sailing to Islas Cíes: the best beach in the World. #21
The Islas CÍes was named by The Guardian “Top 1 of 10 beaches in the World”. We set sail from Muros towards the CÍes Islands to see for ourselves if this beach lives up to the title.
The sail there is gorgeous: 22 knots of downwind, a smooth ride that only gets better when a pod of dolphins comes by to greet us and play at Polar Seal’s bow.
At this point, Ryan is still recovering from his two weeks of business trips, and feels tired all the way down there.
The next day, we inflate the dinghy and leave Polar Seal for an excursion on the trails of Isla do Faro, and climb up the top at Faro de Cìes. We then go down to spend the day at the beach, where Sophie runs straight to dive in the water, only to find out that it is quite cold.
Leaving Cìes means leaving Galicia, which makes us a bit sad. Galicia is a gem of a region, and we cannot believe that we didn’t know about it before we made landfall from crossing Biscay. The landscapes are incredible, the people absolutely lovely and the food unbelievably good and affordable.

14.CIES ISLANDS: Pure, Natural & Magical
Cíes Islands are one of the most important tourist attractions not only of Galicia but of Spain in general. It is composed of 3 islands (North Island, Middle Island and South Island).
Pure:It is a naturally protected area so only a specific number of people is allowed to go and stay each day in order to protect it and not overcrowd it. Nobody is allowed to build there or even litter. Everyone should keep their trash until they return to the mainland.
Natural:It is full of beautiful greenery, interesting rock formations and numerous walking paths to discover the islands. Also, a big variety of bird species exist in the islands especially seagulls (the world's largest colony around 22,000 pairs).
Magical: Its beauty is hard to capture in all its essence but the view is stunning.
The music of the video isn't random but it reflects the musical tradition of the area of Galicia. The people of the area have Celtic routes and the gaitas (bagpipes) are the main indication of their origins. Spain isn't only paellas and flamenco, it carries different cultures and people. So join me in visiting the pure, natural and magic place of the Cíes Islands.

Last week I went to one of the largest cities of Galicia region - Vigo. One of the biggest highlights of the trip were The Cies Islands that feature one of the best beaches in the world.

Glance at Galicia on a map, high in a northern corner of Spain, and you will see a ragged chunk of Spain's west coast, above the Portuguese border, stopping us shy of Santiago de Compostela.

A DAY TRIP TO SPAINS INCREDIBLE CIES ISLANDS
The Cies Islands are actually legit wholly crap awesome. You can explore on the cheap using public transport or you can hire a private yacht and visit the 'least touristy' of the three islands.

Ons Island - Isla de Ons
The Ons Islands (Islas de Ons) are of international conservation importance and have National Park status in Spain. They are one of the most important nature conservation and wildlife sites in Spain. But outside Galicia and Spain few people have much awareness about their existance and significance.
The Ons Islands cover an area of about 470 hectares and along with the Cies Islands are part of the Atlantic Islands National Park and they lie in the province of Pontevedra close to the Port of Bueu. There are actually 10 beaches almost all virgin. Half are on the eastern side of the island of Ons, and from north to south are Melide (the largest and nudist), das Dornas (for the northern dock), Area dos Cans (the most central and busy), Canexol (close to the fort and the cemetery) and Pereiró (the southern most). On the west-facing Atlantic are the rocky beaches of Fontiñas and Liñeiro, to the south is Fedorento Beach, and the northern most island of the archipelago is the the Beach of Onza South and Onza North.

Many vacationers traveling to Spain is to see the country's major sites in cities like Barcelona, Madrid and Seville. But for scores of other travelers, Spain's spectacular beaches are the primary vacation draw. With hundreds of miles of coastline available, visitors can choose to sunbathe on urban beaches pulsing with people or unwind along isolated swaths of silky sand. Illas Cies Ria de Vigo, Galicia Known to locals as the Galician Caribbean, the striking Illas Cíes are a trio of pristine islands in Spain's northwest region of Galicia. The 3 islands lie partially exposed to the battering waves of the Atlantic Ocean, while their other sides face the Ria de Vigo, a tranquil estuary, and remains blissfully protected. The Cíes can be reached by ferry from the town of Vigo and visitors should head to the 2 main isles, Illa do Monte Ayudo and Illa do Faro. These islands are connected by Rodas Beach, a sliver of sand embracing a sheltered lagoon. Rodas Beach is arguably Spain's prettiest, and its sparkling blue water and powder-white sands draw scores of tourists daily. Despite their popularity, the islands remain delightfully undeveloped -- thanks to their designation as a nature preserve. Still, visitors will find a smattering of beach bars, a campground (reservations are required), a basic market and restaurant. The beautiful beach of El Bajondillo is iconic Costa del Sol. The soft sand meanders along the Mediterranean and is very close to the city of Malaga. Along the beach promenade are numerous beach bars and restaurants, amenities that are missing at some of Costa del Sol's more rocky beaches. The specialty of the area is pesca'to, or small fried fish. It's served at most restaurants lining the picturesque sandy stretch. La Carihuela is a stretch of beach along the Torremolinos municipality. Arrive early to claim your spot and wait for the village to slowly wake up, with cafes and shops opening around 11 a.m. La Carihuela is known for its cleanliness and comfy sunshade beds. When hungry, head to the chiringuitos, beach restaurants serving fresh Mediterranean seafood. The promenade hugging the beach connects to the Port of Benalmadena, where lively nightlife, stylish boutiques and delicious restaurants can be found.
