Tokyo Nightlife Guide, 2017 - Let me take you around Tokyo, Japan and show you some of the best things to do in Tokyo at night!
As I mention in the Tokyo Nightlife Guide video, there are a million bars, nightclubs, and restaurants in Tokyo to choose from, so I wanted to break it down by popular nightlife neighborhoods in Tokyo to give you some ideas on things to do in Tokyo at night.
ROPPONGI - Known to be the most foreign-friendly nightlife neighborhood. Home to the Hard Rock Cafe and many other western bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. Some good nightlife areas around Roppongi include Azabujuban and Akasaka.
EBISU - A much more local environment than Roppongi, and home to the awesome Ebisu Yokocho, is Ebisu. My favorite nightlife area in Tokyo along with Nakameguro and Meguro nearby.
SHIBUYA - Famous for the Shibuya Crossing, Shibuya is where many of the biggest nightclubs in Tokyo are, but you can also find a million small, quiet, hidden Shibuya bars as well. Mega clubs like Whomb, Harlem, Club Camelot, Sound Museum Vision, Atom, are very big right now. Be sure to check online before visiting for specials, DJs, and cover charges.
SHINJUKU - Tokyo Red Light District is in Shinjuku, as is the popular Robot Restaurant, and Golden Gai. In all of Tokyo, you can probably find the most variety and options of Shinjuku bars than anywhere else.

Kyushu Travel Tips: 8 Things to Know Before You Go To Kyushu Japan
Things YOU need to know before you visit the Kyushu region in Japan. First, Kyushu is a paradise for travelers looking to get off the beaten track and see the unseen Japan. The lush green countryside is home to active volcanoes, waterfalls, natural hot springs, and semi-tropical coastlines. Kyushu is the Southwestern most island with a population of 13 Million. Kyushu literally means Nine Provinces, although it’s only got 7 prefectures now. Kyushu's strategic position near South Korea and China have allowed it to act as a focal point of cultural, religious, and artistic exchanges since the ancient Japanese world. Fukuoka is closer to Seoul than Tokyo. Lot’s of International visitors. Quite mountainous, Japan’s most active Volcano (Mt. Aso)

A trip by train all the way from Tokyo takes 5:40 by Nozomi and costs ¥22,000
South Korea by Ferry to Busan
4. Transportation in Kyushu
It may seem small on the map, but is really quite big
If you are mostly in the cities, trains and bus.
Shinkansen runs north & south. East / West travel is slow.
Hakata to Kagoshima in the south buy Shinkansen takes about 1.5 hours
Kyushu Rail Pass: one for the Northern Kyushu Area,, and the full pass which covers the entire island.

Elsewhere, you’ll need a car.

Although Kyushu is usually warm and comfortable throughout the year, as we found out, it can get quite a bit of snow in the Mt. Aso region and the region can be quite cold in the winter
6. Language
Kyushu is home to dialects of Japanese that are almost incomprehensible to speakers of standard Japanese -so much so that it was utilised during World War 2 for preventing interception by the Allies of Japanese communications. Even native speakers of Japanese from Honshu often have problems understanding the conversations of locals. However, all people are able to speak standard Japanese and especially in the cities younger people may also have a limited command of English.

With 4.2 restaurants for every 1,000 people, Fukuoka is second only to Tokyo for the highest concentration of restaurants in Japan. In fact, in those terms it beats Singapore, New York, Hong Kong and most other major cities in the world. TripAdvisor currently lists 9,398 restaurants in Fukuoka — which means that if you dined at a different one every day, it would take you around 25 years to try them all.

Massive Snow Wall Walk: Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route, Japan | Best places | 1 Day Travel ☆ Trip dude
Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a once a lifetime experience; it is a full day trip from Toyama to Ogizawa. Time your visit well, best when the snow corridor is still standing tall.
The route is 37 kilometres (23 mi), with a vertical interval of as much as 1,975 metres (6,480 ft). There are seven different transportation services using five different modes, namely funicular, bus, trolleybus, aerial tramway, and walking. The route is built so that the surrounding environment is not damaged. Three lines go through tunnels (to protect them from snow), among which are two trolleybus lines, the last in Japan, because they do not exhaust fumes in the tunnels.
The route goes through Tateyama in the Hida Mountains with many scenic sites as well as walking trails, including Japan's largest dam, Kurobe dam. Some stations have hotels around them and are used as bases for mountain climbing or trekking, mainly near Tateyama Station as well as up on the mountain by Murodo Station.
There are many sights along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. From the highest to the lowest, these sights include the following.
Located by Oyama peak is Oyama Shrine, where climbers can receive a blessing and warm sake from a priest. There is also a rest area where climbers may buy food, drinks, and souvenirs. This peak is better known but it is some way from the highest point of the mountain (Onanjiyama).
Located on Murodo Plateau from Murodō Station is a shopping area and onsen bath. The onsen on Tateyama is famously known for its use of sulfur spring water for the bath, leaving a noticeable aroma that can be detected even while ascending the mountain. Visitors can also find several hiking and walking paths that take them through the beautiful valleys, and take a look at Devil's Valley (Jigokudani). With many volcanic areas in Japan by the same name, visitors are no longer able to walk within the sulfur valley due to gas-related safety concerns.
From April 15 to mid-June, one can enjoy the sparkling snow walls named Yukino-ōtani, which tower anywhere from 15 to 20 meters high (roughly 50 to 65 feet). They flank the road leading to Murodo Station, where visitors can enjoy hot, delicious food after walking between the impressive, but chilly, snow walls. There are many charter services from Taipei, Inchon and Thailand during the high season to reach Murodo at this time.
From Murodo, visitors can also reach Kurobe Dam, which stands at 186 meters (610 feet), making it the tallest dam in Japan. From Murodō Station, visitors should take the Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus (10 minutes), followed by the Tateyama Ropeway (7 minutes), and finally the Kurobe Cable Car (5 minutes). From the last stop, a 15-minute walk will take visitors to the dam.
Midagahara is a flat walking area filled with flowing plains interrupted by blue ponds. Near the bus stop that returns visitors to Bijodaira back down the mountain is a slightly hidden walking path. Midagahara is accessible from Tateyama Station via the Tateyama Cable Car (7 minutes) followed by Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route bus (about 40 minutes) that goes in the direction of Murodō Station.
On clear days, climbers can see Shōmyō Falls (the tallest waterfall in Japan) across the valley while traveling along the main road from Tateyama Station to the Murodo Plateau. For a closer look, visitors can take a bus from Tateyama Station to the Shōmyō Falls stop (about 20 minutes). From there, visitors can walk to the falls up a steady slope (about 20 minutes). There is a large bridge as well as two viewing platforms to get views of the Falls.
The section between Kurobe Dam and Ōgisawa was originally made for construction of the dam, while the section between Tateyama and Kurobeko was for tourists from the beginning. Currently, the route is purely a sightseeing one, only used by tourists. Although this is the only route that directly links Toyama and Nagano, it is impractical for normal users as it takes 6 transfers, roughly 5 hours.
$50 Vs. $500 Japanese Hotel (Ryokan) in Hakone
Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a $50 Ryokan and a $500 Ryokan experience in Japan? The difference is quite significant ranging from amenities like a private onsen, your own nakai (Japanese maid), a Japanese lunch & dinner and even a private pickup and drop off van.
First off you may wonder, what is a ryokan? A ryokan is a type of traditional Japanese inn that typically feature tatami-matted rooms, communal baths, and other public areas where visitors may wear yukata and talk with the owner.
Tip: Buy the Hakone Freepass to enjoy attractions cheap and free transportation on boats, buses, rope-ways and cable cars!
ONLY $53 USD
It had been my dream for over a decade to stay at a traditional Japanese ryokan in Hakone. So, I was extremely pumped to jump into my traditional Japanese robe the minute I walked into the agari-kamachi (or entrance room). The ryokan did include being served by a nakai, a Japanese house maid who serves you green tea, dinner, breakfast and makes the futons ready for sleeping (Japanese sleeping quilts)
The best thing about staying at a luxurious ryokan is the kaiseki dinner which is a traditional Japanese multi-course dinner with a wide variety of Japanese dishes consisting primarily out of vegetables with fish and meat all served on tiny dishes and in bit sizes. During the kaiseki dinner you sit on zaisu which are legless chairs which can be uncomfortable to sit on for non-Japanese people.
The luxurious ryokan did include a fancy onsen (Japanese hot spring) on the rooftop which is one of the most relaxing experiences you can have in Japan.
To do a proper comparison I stayed a cheap $50 hotel as well. Gaku Guesthouse offers a Japanese style room with sleeping futons, clean amenities including a laundry machine and a fancy Japanese bidet toilet but also a brand-new billiards table in the garage. Gaku Guesthouse is a great place to meet other travelers as well.
I was surprised how quiet it was in the Japanese mountains compared to the inner city of Tokyo.
Make sure to stay at least 1 night at a luxurious ryokan in Hakone to complete your journey to Japan. You'll have incredible stories to share with your friends and family.
