Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens, Mount Tomah - Review
The Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens are about 100 kms west of Sydney at Mount Tomah.
At 1,000 metres elevation, these are easily one of the best cool climate Botanic Gardens in Australia and can quite proudly claim to be amongst the Great Gardens of the World.

The Royal Botanic Gardens was established in 1816 as the colony’s veggie patch. The attitude is relaxed – signs say: ‘Please walk on the grass. We also invite you to smell the roses, hug the trees, talk to the birds and picnic on the lawns’. Go exploring, take a free guided walk, or jump on the trackless train if you’ve overdone things.
Highlights include the rose garden, the South Pacific plant collection, the prickly arid garden, a rare Wollemi Pine (an ancient tree only discovered in 1994 in the Blue Mountains), and a colony of bats. Management periodically tries to oust the bats because they destroy vegetation, but they just keep hanging around… The Sydney Tropical Centre comprises the interconnecting Arc and Pyramid glasshouses – a great place to warm up on a wintry morning. The Arc has a rampant collection of climbers from the world’s rainforests; the Pyramid houses Australian species.

The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, Australia
Located right next to the Sydney Opera House, this incredible garden is free to entry every day and is one of the most important botanical institutions in the world and one of the most visited places in Sydney Australia.
If you have some time you can easily spend half of your day (or more) exploring its 30 hectares of terrain, in here you will find a great variety of trees, plants, flowers, birds, exhibitions and more.
If you stay long enough to the sunset you will be able to see the flying foxes (bats) that arrive at the garden trees to sleep.
Definitively one beautiful spot to have a picnic with a lovely view and a must go if you are coming to Australia, the best of all... it's FREE.
