Naivasha (Kenya) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Naivasha in Kenya.
Lake Naivasha, approximately one hundred kilometres distant from the capital of Kenya, Nairobi, is the larger of two extraordinary freshwater lakes within the Rift Valley. Lake Naivasha covers an area of two hundred and fifty square kilometres. Its waters are cold but with a maximum depth of only fifteen metres relatively shallow. The biosphere of Lake Naivasha is of great ecological importance for the wildlife of Rift Valley and the landscape is of particular interest to ornithologists. To date around three hundred and fifty bird species have been recorded, among them rare and spectacular varieties such as Marabus and Cormorants. The lake's huge quantities of fish attract a large number of seabirds, most notably the Pelican that has seemed to have taken a liking to this the second largest freshwater lake in Kenya. The nesting places along the shores of Lake Naivasha are mostly located high up in the trees and are very popular with both the indigenous birds and also many migratory varieties. This region became world famous after Joy Adamson a British artist and nature conservationist, wrote a famous book about lions that was subsequently made into a film, Elsa The Lioness.

A Perfect Picnic site in tea plantations Kenya ,Waterfall Inn Restaurant Kenya Africa travel vlog
My Malayalam channel link -
This is a great spot for a chilled-out picnic or restaurant lunch in a peaceful rustic paradise only 30 minutes from the hectic urban life of Nairobi.
Directions
Take the Limuru Road heading north past the Village Market mall as far as the Banana Hills road junction . Turn off to the right (north) and follow this road up through the bustling Muchatha (2km from the junction) and Banana Hills (5km) areas emerging back out into the countryside, passing the Kentmere Club on your right (10km - and on to the junction at All Saint's church signposted Limuru Girls School.
Turn right here on the tar road and proceed approx 1.5km (just before Kiambethu Farm (on the left). Turn right here onto a dirt road which heads down and up past the school and then after a left hand bend loops around the top of the ridge along a jeep track to the Butt Farm / Waterfalls Inn gate. Pay the Kshs 300/person entry fee here and proceed to the parking area in front of the farmhouse.
From here, simply follow the signposted footpath east for approx 150m past the restaurant, across a grassy picnic area and then down a broad-stepped trail through the forest to the waterfall. The overgrown jeep track which you see ahead of you at the corner where you headed down to access the falls continues west through the lovely cool forest and loops up and around to the right to emerge in a grassy sloping field heading back up to the start (approx 550m/20 mins walking distance). This track is also navigable with a little care (narrow in places) by 4WD vehicles (and probably normal cars) and there is just enough space to do a nifty 5-7 point turn around where it meets the stepped foot trail coming down from the farm.
WHAT TO DO IN KENYA in 60 seconds
It doesn’t get much wilder than Kenya. Here are the highlights in 60 seconds. Tim spent two weeks in this truly epic country with unique wildlife and culture. But have a look at it yourself.

It went all too fast? You want the details? No problem.
Here are our recommendations in order of appearance:
0:15
Roads
The infrastructure in Kenya is not the best in the world. In fact it’s difficult to travel the country on your own. If you’re an experienced backpacker you can use public transport like busses or the new high speed train between Mombasa and Nairobi, but if not: stay with a tour operator. They can be quite expensive, but prices for accommodation are quite low – especially when you’re fine with camping.
0:15
Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
Baby elephants. Yes. BABY ELEPHANTS! And you can get so close! The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi rescues injured elephants and prepares them for their release. Visitors are only allowed between 11 a.m. and noon, since they don’t want to tame the elephants.
0:19
Giraffe Centre
The Giraffe Centre tries to protect the endangered Rothschild Giraffe. And you as a tourist can help them by paying a rather expensive entry fee and climb the ladder to the viewing platform.
0:21
Maasai Mara
This is probably the most popular national park in Kenya. The Maasai Mara is basically the Kenyan part of the Serengeti. That means you’ll get endless plains with thousands of animals – including very rare leopards and a huge amount of lions.
0:25
Tsavo West
This is our favourite national park in Kenya. Tsavo West is famous for a stunning lava scenery that stretches out dozens of kilometres. Yes, there are animals but as the vegetation is quite dense they are hard to spot. This might be the reason that not many tourist come here – when we visited Tsavo we were the only guests in the entire park.
0:26
Amboseli
Huge herds of elephants and Africa’s highest peak, the Kilimanjaro, in the background – that’s the reason why you’re going to Amboseli National Park. Make sure you stop at the viewpoint in the middle of the park to get a stunning view over the endless plains.
0:30
Rift Valley
The Rift Valley stretches 6000 kilometres from Lebanon to Mozambique. Here in Kenya you get the best view on the boundary of the tectonic plates on the way between Nairobi and Naivasha - while trucks pass behind you at breakneck speed.
0:33
Lake Naivasha
You might not know Naivasha, but it’s quite likely that you bought something from there. The region is the flower centre of the world with endless greenhouses that grow roses and tulips for export.
0:36
Maasai Village
Maasai are everywhere in Kenya and very easy to recognise, since they always wear their traditional scarfs and sticks. It is impressive how proudly they conserve their traditional way of living. And they often offer you a chance to visit their villages.
0:44
Accommodation
It’s complicated. If you’re into camping you’ll love Kenya. If not it’s going to be quite expensive. Lodges can go up to once-in-a-lifetime prices and normal hotels are rare outside the bigger cities. Our recommendation would be to book an overland trip that solves the most difficult problem in Africa: Logistics.
0:52
Nairobi
Nairobi’s nickname is “Nairobbery”. Luckily that has changed in the past few years and crime rates are dropping. Nevertheless the city is still a melting pot of cultures and tribes. One of Kenyas biggest problems is the brain drain on the countryside since so many people come to Nairobi to make a living. The infrastructure couldn’t keep up with the migration resulting in nightmarish traffic jams.
0:55
Lion King
The famous movie is a tribute to the East African culture and especially the Swahili language. “Simba” means lion, “Rafiki” means friend and “Pumbaa” means foolish.
0:59
Diani Beach
Your trip to Kenya is not complete without a stop at the Indian Ocean. Whilst you can leave Mombasa itself, it is definitely worth to relax on one of the beaches nearby: The water is crystal clear and the sand nearly white. We stopped at Diani Beach, where prices are still relatively low and self-catering apartments are affordable. Other popular destinations are Malindi, Watamu or Lamu.
1:03
Hakuna Matata
You might know these words from the Lion King as well. Hakuna Matata (“no worries”) is the principle Kenya runs on: Relax, take it easy.
