The beach of Cala Mariolu, near Baunei, Province of Ogliastra, East Sardinia. In the background, the Supramonte mountains, reaching all the way to the Tyrrhenian Sea at the Gulf of Orosei. Cala Mariolu is one of the most precious beaches the eastern coast of the beautiful island of Sardinia has to offer.
This gem is located just north of Cala Goloritze, and is decorated with little pebbles made round and smooth by the eternal movement of the waters. The beach of Cala Mariolu is very suitable for scuba diving, and is one of the best snorkeling beaches of Sardinia. Due to its location, the beach of Cala Mariolu rests in the shade of the limestone rocks at the end of the afternoon.
Unfortunately there are no hotels or other accommodations in the direct vicinity of Cala Mariolu, but there are plenty of accommodations to be found in the cities north and south of the cove. Just 14 kilometers north of Cala Mariolu you’ll find several beachfront hotels, apartments and bed & breakfasts in Cala Gonone.
Just about 22 kilometers south of Cala Mariolu there’s a wide variety of hotels and apartments to be found in Santa Maria Navarrese, Ogliastra. All accommodations in both cities are 3-stars and up, and great starting points for beach, nature and hiking enthusiasts and backpackers who come to Sardinia to explore the Gulf of Orosei.

Ulassai, Ulassa in sardinian language, is a comune in the Province of Nuoro in the Italian region Sardinia, located about 70 kilometres northeast of Cagliari and about 20 kilometres southwest of Tortolì. Ulassai borders the following municipalities: Esterzili, Gairo, Jerzu, Osini, Perdasdefogu, Seui, Tertenia, Ussassai, Villaputzu.
Ulassai is a small mountain town in the heart of Ogliastra, Sardinia’s most unspoiled and authentic region. Surrounded by high limestone cliffs and at an altitude of 700 m amsl, it attracts visitors for the combination of inland Sardinia’s uncontaminated nature and authentic traditions with the beauty of the coastline, only 20 minutes away by car.
Ulassai offers, in just a few km from the village centre, a wide variety of attractions: from the distinctive limestone “tacchi”, so-called because they resemble upturned shoe heels (“tacco” means “heel” in Italian), very popular with climbers from al lover the world, to the “Su Marmuri” cavern, one of Sardinia’s most famous; from the high, foaming Lecorci and Lequarci waterfalls, which form after the autumn rains, to the Taccu plateau with its woods of centuries-old oaks and strawberry trees, through which various paths weave to offer walks with breathtaking views. In the town centre of Ulassai you can still find, almost intact, the typical architecture of the ancient Sard villages. You can admire traditional arches ( the Arco di “Barigau”, the actual entrance gate to the heart of the town and a majestic monument, what’s left ofan old town wall), cloisters and other buildings from the past which exude, still today, the odour of our forebear’s times.
Memories of ancient crafts live on among the people of Ulassai, the best example of which are the fine works of the women of the Cooperativa tessile di Su Marmuri (weaving cooperative) who, as in the past, skilfully weave their wools to create unique woven designs of important artistic and handicraft value. For a few years now, in Ulassai a process of developing this extraordinary natural heritage made of rocks, waterfalls and woods has been underway. This heritage, which for thousands of years was regarded by the Ulassai community as “merely where they worked”, is now an important resource for tourism.
Hundreds of rock climbing routes have been created along with walking paths for nature lovers, so that, over the course of about 10 years, Ulassai has become an important centre in Sardinia for outdoor sport lovers. Today Ulassai boasts some of Sardinia and Europe’s finest climbing. This, together with the works of art scattered across the area. the hiking trails, the caves and the handicrafts, make Ulassai a “must-visit” for all those who love art and nature.

Arbatax is the largest hamlet of Tortolì, Sardinia, in Italy. With almost 5,000 inhabitants, it is also the third largest town in its province by population, after Lanusei municipality and Tortolì proper. The origin of the name Arbatax is uncertain; according to tradition it derived from the Arabic for 14th Tower and refers, probably, to the nearby watchtower built by the Spaniards to protect the territory from the incursion of Arab pirates.
The founders of Arbatax were Campanian fishermen from the island of Ponza, located in Lazio, close to the coast of the Italian Peninsula. The location assumed importance in the 1960s after the construction of the main Sardinian paper mill.
The town is situated by the Tyrrhenian Sea, 5 km west of Tortolì. The port is used by ferries from Civitavecchia and Olbia and is also monopolized by the marine construction company Intermare, which builds gas rigs and vessels. The marina is one of the cheapest in Sardinia.
The town is connected to Lanusei and Cagliari by a narrow gauge railway, today used for touristic purposes, owned by Ferrovie della Sardegna. The closest airport is the Tortolì Airport, about 4 km from the town. Today, the economy is focused on tourism and industry. Arbatax is home to a factory dedicated to the building of oil platforms, controlled by the Italian oil and gas industry contractor Saipem. Mussels are farmed in the nearby lagoon and fresh fish are on sale from the fishing cooperative. The red rocks are a tourist attraction.

Sardinia (autonomous region of Italy) is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the best cheap destinations with a lot of beautiful beaches. Travelers favorite place with a lot of cruise tours available.
This entire film was filmed by Heidi Otaduy on the island of Sardinia over a 9 day period. On a technical side, this was all shot on the Canon 60D. Most of the shots were done with a 14mm lens.

La Maddalena is a town and comune located on the island with the same name, in northern Sardinia, part of the province of Sassari, Italy. La Maddalena is the largest town in the Maddalena archipelago, just 2 kilometres (1 mile) from the northeastern shore of Sardinia and sitting in the Straits of Bonifacio, between it and Corsica.
The focal-point of pedestrian activity is found around Piazza Umberto I (formerly known as Piazza Comando-the older generation of natives in town still commonly refer to the piazza by its original name). There is an adjacent via (Garibaldi) that connects the port (Banchina Commerciale I) facing the Island of Santo Stefano and Piazza Umberto I with city hall. Via Garibaldi is surrounded by commercial shops, restaurants, and bars.
La Maddalena now derives much of its income from tourism. The only method of traveling to La Maddalena is by boat, with car ferries travelling from nearby Palau and from the Italian mainland.

The island of Maddalena is renowned for its beaches; it is characterized by rocky granitic terrain and has some ancient fortifications. Spalmatore and Bassa Trinita are two popular beaches. It is connected by causeway with the nearby island of Caprera, famous as the residence of the Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi.
La Maddalena has undergone many name changes: the Romans named it Ilva, Fussa and Bucina and in the Middle Ages the island was known as Bicinara before being given the name of Santa Maria Magdalena in the 16th century. After this it finally became known as La Maddalena. The Maddalena archipelago is known from archaeological evidence to have been occupied in prehistoric times, but its written history begins with the Roman Empire.
After the fall of the Western Roman Empire the islands were completely abandoned until the 12th century, when they were chosen by Benedictine monks founding small communities there. The islands were the object of a dispute between the Republics of Pisa and Genoa in the 12th century. In 1584 all the monasteries on the islands were destroyed by one of the Ottoman raids. In the 17th century shepherds began to bring their flocks to the islands in the winter months.
Its location in the Strait of Bonifacio, through which much maritime traffic must pass, has turned the archipelago into a strategic military position. In 1767 it was occupied by the Savoy-Piedmontese. The nucleus of the present town of La Maddalena emerged then. In 1793 a French expedition, in which Napoleon Bonaparte took part, unsuccessfully tried to occupy the island. It was the first combat experience of Napoleon Bonaparte. During all the Napoleonic Wars Admiral Horatio Nelson used the archipelago of La Maddalena as a base for his fleet in actions against the French.

Un viaggio navigando in un mare di smeraldo, tra piccole e grandi insenature dalla sabbia bianchissima: questa è la Sardegna, un’isola che stupisce il visitatore per i suoi contrasti naturali, luci e colori, un paese di antichissime tradizioni, immerso in una natura selvaggia e incontaminata. Situata al centro del Mediterraneo, con un territorio prevalentemente montuoso ma privo di alte vette, la Sardegna regala al visitatore un ambiente naturale unico, nello stesso tempo aspro e dolcissimo. L’uomo, infatti, è in certe zone quasi una rara presenza; vaste superfici sono rimaste magicamente intatte, abitate da cervi, cavalli selvatici e grandi rapaci e sono ricche di piccole zone desertiche, stagni e boschi rigogliosi con alberi anche millenari.
Il mare regna incontrastato con i suoi colori e si insinua nelle calette tortuose, lungo le coste e le spiagge, nelle località più frequentate. La costa Smeralda con la sua perla, Porto Cervo, ne è un esempio. Il suo Porto Vecchio è considerato il più attrezzato porto turistico del Mediterraneo. Porto Rotondo è una località anch’essa rinomata, che si affaccia sull’ampio Golfo di Cugnana ed è popolata da ville e piazzette incastonate in una magnifica natura.
Chi al mare preferisce la montagna potrà andare alla scoperta della regione del Gennargentu, il più vasto complesso montano della Sardegna, con i suoi pittorici scenari dove la natura occupa un posto di primo piano. Molto ricca la flora e la fauna con i suoi mufloni, aquile reali, cervi sardi e varie specie ormai sull’orlo dell’estinzione.Tra le sue meraviglie, la Sardegna offre al visitatore i complessi nuragici sparsi su tutto il territorio, monumenti unici al mondo che testimoniano una cultura antica e ancora in parte misteriosa che va dal XV al VI secolo a C.
I Nuraghi – costruiti con grandi blocchi di pietra – si sviluppavano intorno ad una torre centrale a forma di tronco di cono che trasmette una sensazione di solidità e potenza. Si tratta di siti archeologici dove si possono ancora cogliere i segni di antiche ritualità e di vita domestica dal fascino arcaico. Tra i tanti, il complesso di Barumini in provincia di Medio Campidano è nella lista del patrimonio mondiale UNESCO.
Le province della Sardegna sono: Cagliari (capoluogo), Carbonia-Iglesias, Nuoro, Olbia-Tempio, Oristano, Medio Campidano, Sassari, Ogliastra.A soli 12 km di mare dalla Corsica, 120 dalla Toscana e 185 dall'Africa, la Sardegna è da sempre meta di indiscutibile fascino, a ben vedere definita come i Caraibi italiani. Ed in effetti poco ha da invidiare l'Isola dei Nuraghi alle mete tropicali d'oltreoceano, grazie a luoghi come la Maddalena e la Costa Smeralda, Santa Teresa Gallura e Arzachena, tra gli altri: lunghissime spiagge di sabbia bianca e finissima si alternano a masse rocciose e magnifiche insenature movimentate da cale e isolette. Il bellissimo mare, dai fondali molto profondi, è certo il bene più prezioso dell'isola ma non l'unico. A rendere un mondo a sè questo angolo d'Italia un pò schivo, sono tradizioni millenarie ancora vive tra il fiero popolo sardo. E ancora, un'archeologia unica al mondo, ricca di nuraghi, menhir e tombe giganti e un entroterra non meno affascinante e per certi versi misterioso.Sardegna una terra da scoprire...

The City of Cardedu belongs to the Province of Ogliastra. It is located on the east coast of Sardinia, characterized by one of the most beautiful coasts of the island.
Long and very white beaches alternate with other stretches of sand pebbles. The red Porphyry cliffs that fall to the sea are interspersed with quiet coves and isolated. Until a few decades ago its waters were inhabited by monk seals.
Sandy beaches and clear sea make a lovely unspoiled and wild landscape, a favorite of many surfers for the sirocco wind blowing between 10 and 15 knots.
