There are many castles in the Netherlands. In the province of Gelderland you will find nearly two hundred castles or caste-like estates.
I have visited six of them on one day (all near my hometown).
You can walk around most of the castles and some you can visit.
The first three (doorwerth, rosendael and vorden) are open to the public. The other ones (Hackfort, Ampsen and Wildenborch are private).

These 3 garden are very different but all three very interesting. They lie not far from each other in a vicinety of 3 km.in the Brummen town, so easy to visit in one day during open garden weekends.

Hof means garden and Wijck means place. Huygens was planning to have a summer home. Hof means Royal and Wijck means escape!
As I mentioned earlier,he was a politician and this was his means of escaping the tensions that come along the life he chose.
Most visitors originally see a glimpse of the rearview of the house!
Voorburg station (pond) is part of the original garden!
His scientist son, Christiaan Huygens have interesting pieces like pendulum and original planetarium.
