OAXACA MEXICO - TOUR AND TRAVEL VLOG
Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most unique states, noted for its rich traditional heritage and diverse ethnic population, as well as for its artistic, cultural, and culinary treasures. This video will cover the many sights and UNESCO World heritage sights to photograph in this region.
1. Oaxaca City (7:23 - 9:35)
Designated UNESCO Site noted for its Spanish colonial architecture. It is filled with colorful, wonderfully preserved
buildings.
2. Markets (8:18 - 8:23)
Oaxaca is known as the Land of the Seven Moles, a complex sauce used with meat and rice. But that is not all. Oaxaca is renowned for its unique regional cuisines. The markets are a great way to try the food.
3. Mezcal Factory Tour (2:06 - 2:50)
Mezcal is one of Oaxaca's most famous exports. It is similar to tequila, only with a rich smoky flavor. Mezcal comes in many unique flavors and different aging categories including a variety that comes with a worm for added flavor. Check out the Mezcal Factories where they will show you just how this liquid gold is made.
4. Textiles (1:14 - 2:00)
Oaxaca is world famous for its textiles. They are created using natural dyes and wool. The textile patterns mimic the design elements from the Mitla, an archeological site with distinctive geometric patterns, making them distinctive from any other textiles.
5. Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzman (7:36 - 8:00)
Glorious Baroque church found in Oaxaca City. It includes lavishly ornate interior. Construction started in the 16th Century but did not complete until the 17th Century. The town cathedral is witness to all the cultural activities taking place beneath its facade, including weddings and festivals.
6. Árbol del Tule (0:40 - 1:10)
Botanists estimate this tree to be 2,000 years old. It is considered the largest and oldest tree in the world with a perimeter at 139 feet in circumference. It didn't even fit into one picture frame!
7. Hierve de Agua (3:50 - 4:30)
One of the most surreal landscape I have ever seen is Hierve de Agua, found about two hours outside of the city. The name translates to place where the water boils, and contains non-thermal pools, and natural rock formations rising form the valley below including the main highlight, a petrified waterfall. It was created by minerals that pushed through limestone, depositing onto the mountain. You can hike to the waterfall or wade around in the mineral pools.
8. Zocalo and Basilica of Our Lady of Solitude (8:23 - 8:36)
The Zocalo is the central plaza in Oaxaca City that includes a Spanish Baroque style church, Basilica of our Lady of Solitude. The Zocalo is connected by a pedestrian walkway to the other plaza, Santo Domingo. Along the Zocalo are many street shops and markets.
9. Mitla (2:30 - 3:46)
One of the famous archeology sites which translates to place of the dead. Mitla was an ancient burial and funeral ritual site for the Zapotec people, one of Oaxaca's indigenous groups. It includes one of the few surviving temples, noted for its distinctive small tile mosaic-like geometric patterns in the facade.
10. Monte Albán (6:00 - 7:28)
Monte Albán is so amazing, that it deserves its own blog post (coming soon). It is a UNESCO World Heritage site found about 20 minutes outside of the city. It is the first great city of Mesoamerica and dates back to 500 or 600 BCE. The Zapotec people leveled the mountains by hand (no metal tools or even wheels) to build their ceremonial center known as Monte Albán here, complete with temples or astronomical and religious purposes. Mitla and Monte Albán give you an idea of just how advanced this indigenous civilization was in its heyday.

EXPLORE MEXICO: Veracruz City Highlights Tour
In this episode of Explore Mexico, take a short walking highlights tour in the city of Veracruz with Mike Vondruska.
Highlights Tour -
The city of Veracruz is located on the Gulf of Mexico 250 miles east of Mexico City. Veracruz city has been called the Gateway to Mexico because of its deep water port. Cargo ships have docked here ever since the Spanish conquered Mexico in the early 1500's.
When visiting the city of Veracruz, be prepared to speak Spanish because very few people there speak English. Also, exchange your foreign currency for Mexican Pesos. Almost everywhere US dollars will not be accepted.
Here are some of the Highlights you will see during this quick walking tour:
- Plaza de Armas (the main central plaza)
- Malecon (the prominade near the ocean)
- Cafe de la Parroquia
- San Juan de Ulua fortress
- El Baluarte de Santiago (another fort which was a part of the walled city which at one time surrounded Veracruz for protection)

Qué hacer en Oaxaca, la guía definitiva.
Esta es una guía para que sepas qué hacer en Oaxaca el día que la visites, te la vas a pasar increíble en tu viaje.
Esto es lo que hay que hacer en Oaxaca:
*Levantarte temprano y ver amanecer en el templo de Santo Domingo*
-Recorre su interior y disfrútalo para ti solito antes de que los grupos de turistas lo abarroten.
*Explorar el mercado principal*
-Y probar las tlayudas, las aguas frescas y el tradicional tejate que es una bebida base maíz y cacao.
*Almorzar sabroso*
-En Las Manos Mágicas se come delicioso y a un precio razonable, mi favorito es el Tasajo un corte de carne delicioso, acompáñalo con unas enchiladas y agua fresca.
*Visita el Árbol del Tule*
-Puedes tomar un tour o un taxi, queda a media hora (sin tráfico) de Oaxaca, es el árbol más ancho del planeta. Trátalo con respeto.
*Nadar en Hierve el Agua*
-Es un lugar increíble al que puedes llegar en auto o en autobus de tour. Queda a dos horas de la ciudad. Recuerda llevar traje de baño y toalla. La vista es espectacular. Tenemos más info acerca de Hierve el Agua en nuestro blog, más adelante te dejo el link para que sepas todo.
*Visitar Monte Albán*
Puedes llegar en Taxi o en transporte colectivo. La mayoría de los Tours incluyen Monte Albán. Te recomiendo mucho ver el atardecer allá.

Cañón del Sumidero Chiapas, la guía definitiva
En esta guía acerca del Cañón del Sumidero, te contamos todo lo que necesitas saber para preparar tu viaje a Chiapas y vivir esta gran experiencia. Continúa leyendo para obtener los enlaces de los lugares que mencionamos en el video.
Los embarcaderos hacia el Cañón del Sumidero están en el pueblo mágico de Chiapa de Corzo, por lo cuál te recomendamos mucho hospedarte en el pueblito y no en la ciudad de Tuxtla Gutierrez, ya que el Chiapa de Corzo tiene más que ofrecerte como viajero.
*Dónde hospedarte
-A dos cuadras de la plaza principal de Chiapa de Corzo, está ubicado el Hotel La Ceiba uno de los más completos del pueblo, que te aseguramos que te va a satisfacer en todos los aspectos de tu viaje, nosotros lo escogimos por ubicación y precio, revisa su página web para que conozcas sus paquetes y ofertas:
*Camino al Cañón del Sumidero
-Hay varias cooperativas turísticas que ofrecen el tour en lancha, nosotros nos fuimos con la cooperativa Grijalva y nos costó $190 pesos por persona. Te recomendamos que te pongas bloqueador de sol y que lleves sombrero o gorra. El recorrido dura aproximadamente 2 horas.
*El Cañón del Sumidero
-Durante tu trayecto puedes ver muchas especies de fauna y formaciones rocosas que, si dejas volar tu imaginación, semejan animales, rostros, y todo tipo de figuras. Los muros del Cañón llegan a medir más de 1000 metros de altura, lo demás te lo puede ir platicando tu guía, tampoco queremos platicarte todos los detalles para que los descubras por ti mismo.
*Recomendaciones durante tu recorrido
-No te quites el chaleco para nada, primero por tu seguridad, segundo por que si te ve una autoridad, te harás acreedor de una multa.
-Por favor, si generas desechos mientras navegas por el Cañón, guárdalos en tu mochila para tirarlos después en la basura.
-Disfruta primero, toma fotos después.
-Al terminar NO TE QUITES la pulsera, la puedes necesitar después.
*Dónde comer en Chiapa de Corzo
-Terminando el paseo en lancha, te recomendamos saciar tu apetito en el restaurante El campanario, ahí puedes probar los platillos más representativos de Chiapas, son deliciosos y la atención es muy buena. No es precisamente barato, pero el sabor de la comida y la abundancia con la que te sirven vale la pena.
*Los 5 miradores del Cañón del Sumidero
-A media hora de Chiapa de Corzo está el acceso al Parque Nacional el Cañón del Sumidero que debes de visitar para completar tu experiencia. El acceso tiene un costo de $31 por persona, pero es gratis si muestras la pulsera que te dieron durante el paseo de Lancha.
-Vale la pena parar en cada mirador para contemplar por un momento los diferentes ángulos de esta maravilla natural, sin embargo el 5to mirador, el que se encuentra en la cima del Cañón es el que tiene la vista más impresionante.
-En la tienda de artesanías que hay en este lugar, puedes comprar los Karushitos, una artesanía muy original de Chiapas, son animalitos hechos con semillas de distintos árboles y pintados a mano. Éstos personajes tienen un canal de Youtube, aquí está su enlace:
*Diviértete y baila en el parque de la Marimba.
-Antes de regresar al Hotel, ve al Parque de la Marimba en el centro de Tuxtla Gutierrez para disfrutar de una tarde de música viva, la orquesta toca todos los días de 6pm a 9pm, es muy divertido.
*Visita la Fuente Opilóna en Chiapa de Corzo
-Un monumento artístico, único en su tipo, dónde te vas a tomar unas fotos padrísimas para que te lleves un recuerdo magnífico de tu aventura en el cañón del sumidero.
Eso es todo lo que necesitas saber para tener la mejor experiencia cuando te decidas a vistar este majestuoso lugar.

After surprising my Mum with her dream trip to Cuba we flew over to the capital Havana to spend a few days there before our tour in Western Cuba began.
All major sights in Old Havanna are in walking distance such as El Capitolio , the Museum of the Revolution, Plaza Vieja or the Great Theatre to name just a few. Take a day to roam the narrow streets of the old town and make sure to have a drink at the roof of the Hotel Ambos Mundos!

VeraCruz, a Mexican gem
VeraCruz, Mexico. As a port captain the maker of this movie attended for years the ships of his company while discharging steel in the port of VeraCruz. The final destination of the steel was for the local steel mill called Tamsa which company in return made high pressure pipes out of it for export. He was very impressed with the exhibition on the boulevard which showed in pictures the history of VeraCruz back to the year 1860 and was presented by Tamsa. A truly marvelous peace of work. VeraCruz is one of his favorite ports. He likes it in particular because of its true Mexican flavor. Very popular with the Mexicans.
They come from everywhere to enjoy this colorful town with its friendly people local shops and music displays. A favorite of the Mexicans for the Mexicans.
