Costa Maya Things To Do: The Dance Of The Flyers Ceremony
Looking for things to do in Costa Maya Mexico during your Western Caribbean cruise? You have to go see The Dance of the Flyers!
If you are a fan of aerial dance, this is the Mexican pre-hispanic tradition you must be aware of. Probably one of the first aerial dancers in history were the Papantla flying men.
This Mexican tradition has been around for the last 500 years and it is now protected as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. As part of the cultural offer at Costa Maya in Mahahual, you will be able to see these fearless dancers performing a ritual flight right in the middle of the Mayan village.
Also known as “The dance of the flyers”, this ceremony consists of 5 flying men climbing a 30-meter pole from which four of them will launch themselves at the same time tied with ropes to descend to the ground. In the meantime, the fifth man dances on top of the pole playing a drum and a flute while bending fully backward to acknowledge the god of the sun.
Don’t miss out on seeing The Papantla Flyers if you travel to Costa Maya cruise port, located in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. It’s one of the top attractions in Costa Maya.

Arqueological Zone of El Jajin Veracruz Mexico
El Tajín is a pre-Columbian archeological site in southern Mexico and is one of the largest and most important cities of the Classic era of Mesoamerica.
Unesco World Heritage site of El Tajin Veracruz from the early 9th to the early 13th century.
It became the most important centre in north-east Mesoamerica after the fall of the Teotihuacan Empire.
Cultural influence extended all along the Gulf and penetrated into the Maya region and the high plateaux of central Mexico.
Its architecture, which is unique in Mesoamerica, is characterized by elaborate carved reliefs on the columns and frieze.
The 'Pyramid of the Niches', a masterpiece of ancient Mexican and American architecture, reveals the astronomical and symbolic significance of the buildings.
El Tajin has survived as an outstanding example of the grandeur and importance of the pre-Hispanic cultures of Mexico.

5 Best Beaches in Mexico
In terms of numbers, Mexico is the most popular expat destination for North Americans in the world. And it’s no wonder why. With over 5,800 miles of coastline on the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and Pacific, there are no shortage of postcard worthy, powdery, white-sand beaches in Mexico.
But, what constitutes a great beach is different for everybody. Some like quiet natural beauty, where the only sound is the breaking waves and the only other visitors are seagulls. For surfers it means that perfect break. For others, the perfect day at the beach requires a lounger, umbrella, a good book, and a waiter bringing a steady stream of cold drinks and appetizers.
Here we explore a small portion of the many wonderful beaches in Mexico, with a focus on those that are easy to access, have places to stay nearby, and overall offer a great experience. From places of solitude to bustling scenes where beach bars and restaurants line the sand, we have you covered.

Malecon Puerto Vallarta, Plaza Malecón & Origen y Destino escultura / sculpture
--------------------------
Video shows the north side of the Malecon, starting at the side of the fishermen's cooperative opposite McDonald's passing by La Bodeguita del Medio, going into Plaza Malecon, a closed market with shops and places with food and drink and ending with Pedro Tello's sculpture from 2011, called Origin and Destination.
Since the 1930's Puerto Vallarta has had a Malecon (boardwalk, seaside promenade) it starts off on the north end right by Hotel Rosita, also one of the oldest in town and follows the edge of the sea all the way to Aquiles Serdan square, by the Naval Museum.
It's the most active part of downtown Puerto Vallarta, there are a large amount of stores, restaurants, bars and nightclubs along the PV malecon.
Most of it is now closed to cars, buses and taxis, so you'll be able to walk calmly, without fear of accidents and free from smog and noise. There is a dedicated area with bike lanes, so you'll find bikers and skateboarders too.
The Puerto Vallarta malecon was remodeled some years ago, most locals were not to happy to have their memories meddled with, but it was better planned and improved it by adding places to rest, lots of palm trees and vegetation, making it an ideal place for a family outing, to enjoy the sea, the waves the small stretches of beach, eat breakfast or some other meal in one of the many great restaurants
There are lots of things to do in Puerto Vallarta, there are public shows and spectacles. Halfway along the boardwalk, by Señor Frog's, there are the Papantla Flying Men that soar through the air around a pole, defying gravity and showing extreme courage, there are the comics, music and dance shows at the Los Arcos Amphitheater, the sand sculptures, the rock balancing experts and much more.
It is said that the Puerto Vallarta Malecon is the very heart of the city, one thing is for sure, if you visit the Puerto Vallarta Downtown area, you should save one day (at least) to go to the downtown area and visit the Malecon, you won't regret it.
So if you are asking yourself what to do in Puerto Vallarta, your best place to start finding your perfect Puerto Vallarta activities in the seaside promenade, the Puerto Vallarta boardwalk.

EXPLORE MEXICO: Hidden Tropical Paradise - Catemaco Veracruz
In this episode of EXPLORE MEXICO, enjoy this peaceful Sunday morning in the hidden tropical paradise found in Catemaco, Veracruz.
In this travel video, you will NOT see any foreign tourists.
What you WILL see is real Mexican life unfolding on a weekend morning in this lakeside town.
Catemaco is located 100 miles / 160 km south of the city of Veracruz. It takes about 3 hours by car and 3.5 hours by public bus.
Catemaco is located in what's known as the Los Tuxtlas region of the state of Veracruz. Adjacent to it is the 4th largest lake in Mexico; Lake Catemaco. Pristine Gulf of Mexico beaches are found about one hour from the town.
English is rarely spoken here.
Very few foreign travelers find this tropical hideaway. Very few travel agents or other tour companies have discovered this place for their clients.
Catemaco is geared for the intrepid and adventurous traveler.
There are small 2-3 star hotels and simple locally owned restaurants. Nothing fancy here.
Nearby is tropical rain forests with many hidden streams and beautiful waterfalls.
You may want to check out these two travel videos. The first is about a one day tour from the city of Veracruz to Catemaco. The second one is a quick overview of the town of Catemaco.
