Maison de Provence - Blue Ridge Mountain Rentals
Classic Provincial French charm accents every part of this wonderful Blowing Rock home overlooking the Johns River Gorge! From the beautiful antique furnishings to the ideal location within walking distance to downtown, you're sure to love this little slice of France in the mountains.
Enter the main level from a brick lined pathway to the foyer of the home. Lit by skylights, the foyer serves as a fine entryway and passage from the garage to the main home. Step through to the left to access the main living area. This large room with its tongue & groove walls and exposed beam ceiling is dominated by the towering brick woodburning fireplace, with built in wood caddy, as well as the large windows and sliding doors overlooking the beautiful mountain vista.
In the sitting room side, relax on the selection of comfortable, brightly colored Provincial French seating. There is a TV in an antique solid wood armoire, and original art hangs throughout this room as well as the rest of the home. On the other side of the fireplace, create your meal in the upgraded kitchen with stainless steel appliances, soapstone counters, and deep basin sink under the bay window overlooking the views. Enjoy all your meals on the extended dining table that will comfortably seat 8 people.
Down the hall is the sleeping wing. The master suite features a Queen bed and exposed beam ceilings, as well as access to the open-air patio area. This room, as does the rest of the home, is furnished with beautiful handmade antique pieces, many imported from France. The private bath was recently renovated and has two vessel-style sinks in a granite counter, a separate bathtub, and a glassed-in shower, and the entire bath has marble tiled floors and walls.
The second bedroom on this level has two twin beds. This room is lit with artful accent lighting, and has two large closets attached. The second bathroom opens both to this bedroom as well as to the hallway, and it has a marble tiled floor and vanity and a tub/shower combination.
The lower level of the home acts as a separate suite all its own. There is a living area with a TV and comfortable seating and access to the lower level deck. The unfinished laundry room is through a side door off the living area. Through the other end of the living area is another bedroom suite. This room has an old-fashioned King bed, made of two twin beds pushed together, and it has a private bath with a tub/shower.
Outside on the main level, you have your choice of two lovely spaces from which to enjoy the crisp mountain air. There is an open air patio accessed through the main living area as well as the master suite. This patio has a selection of furnishings. On the other side of the home is a covered deck overlooking the stunning year-round long range mountain views, and it offers wicker and iron seating as well as a pair of rocking chairs. One bay of the garage is available for guest use, so you’ll never have to worry about getting caught in the rain. Quality landscaping has been done to the outside grounds to make this home beautiful inside and out.
Located in the quiet community of Laurel Park less than a mile from historic downtown Blowing Rock, this home is an ideal retreat from the hustle of daily life. The French charm and luxury of the home is sure to inspire and rejuvenate your soul as you relax in the peaceful mountains. Make plans to escape to Maison de Provence today!

Ci In France
Just a compilation of all my pictures from my many trips to France from the 80s to 2000s....
Marie Pierre Vouriot, Lecturer, Thirteen Desserts of Provence
Regional culinary traditions are deeply rooted throughout France — such as in Provence, where its natives celebrate the sweet side of the holiday season with the Thirteen Desserts. On Christmas Eve, the people in Provence enjoy le gros souper, the great supper which features seven delicious but simple, meatless dishes. But dessert is something spectacular, a feast of 13 different regional sweets, each with some religious symbolism, all arrayed on a special table. The number 13 represents the 12 apostles and Jesus Christ, and each dessert dish also has meaning, honoring the four mendicant religious orders, and themes like wealth, poverty, good, and evil. The desserts can be as simple as fruit and nuts, and as spectacular as a chocolate-covered buche de noel (yule log). Don't worry if you don't have room to try them all: the dessert table is traditionally left out till December 27, so you can pace yourself! Let Provence native Marie Pierre Vouriot tell you the story behind each sweet treat, and sample some of these holiday favorites for yourself!
