Uzès, France
Uzès is a charming, small town in the south of France, with pretty pedestrian lanes, a lovely main square, fine restaurants, and a friendly ambience. The historic buildings date back to the Renaissance and Middle Ages, constructed of limestone and brick surdy enough to last 500 years. We are in Languedoc, just west of Provence, in a town the ancient Romans developed because nearby was their source of water for a great aqueduct that nourished their provincial capital in Nimes, including a passage through the famous Pont du Gard, several miles away. It makes a great visit from a home base in Avignon, which can be arranged with a tour company such as Provence Reservation, who drove us there in small vans, with commentary by excellent local guides.

Thai Elephant Massage - by a Cute Baby Elephant in Koh Samui
In 2007 I volunteered to get a massage from a baby elephant in Thailand, on Koh Samui. The baby elephant was super cute and kept tickling me and also gave me a big wet kiss on my check. Surprisingly, the elephant actually gave a great special massage - with the perfect amount of pressure! It wasn't a Thai Hot Stem Massage of course, but it was impressive and disturbing that a baby elephant could do this. Learn more about how I ended up experiencing this here:
Reading more about how these baby elephants are trained to do these types of 'stunts' - it's pretty shocking. On the PETA Asia-Pacific site it shares videos about how baby elephants are taken from their mothers, tied down, and beaten so severely that they bleed and scream, all in order to force them to perform ridiculous tricks for tourists. To learn more, please take a read of this blog post:
I posted this video ages ago to share just with some family and friends the craziness I experienced. Since recently it has gotten more popular, I would like to encourage you to help spread the word about these types of safaris and the dangers they pose to Thai wildlife.
To raise money, I will be donating Adsense Revenues from this Youtube video to support the care of baby elephants through the organization Bring The Elephant Home - Learn more here:
Also to show your support, please take a pledge to protect baby elephants by raising awareness of this issue here:

China: How Xi Jinping´s surveillance state becomes reality
What if a surveillance state becomes reality? In China George Orwell´s classic 1984 seems happening now as a surveillance state is infiltrating daily life. Is China´s President Xi Jinping heading China into a complete surveillance state? Has China already become an all-seeing state that records all citizen´s bad actions?
Ruben Terlou arrived at the end of his journey, in the now locally controlled Macau. In this last episode the photographer tries to see what China´s future will bring. What can Chinese face in the next decade with a President like Xi Jinping and will they be able to deal with the new technological developments?
The future of China - if it is up to President Xi Jinping - is characterized by Chinese entrepreneurship and a great technological progress. But the same technology also ensures far-reaching control possibilities for all Chinese citizens by the Party. The surveillance state that sees everything and also gathers all the information has become reality. But not everywhere this development has been embraced. Especially in Macau - together with Hong Kong the only part of China with self-government and a certain degree of democracy - this growing control is viewed with suspicion.
China is the land of the box haulers. Everything that is electric is made here.
Electric cars, drones, smart cameras: To president Xi Jingping it´s good business. And there is no end to the new inventions. But where is China heading to and what are Xi´s plan for the next decade?
Electric transport is a priority for China. With electric cars for example China can not only make the air less polluted but also generated a lot of money. Ruben performs a test drive with the latest electric racing car and he probably meets the only politician in China who dares to say openly that Orwell's 1984 is near.
