Touring Scotland in a Motorhome #11 Inverewe Gardens to Applecross NC500

Leaving the beautiful Inverewe Gardens Campsite I was heading for Applecross. The weather was getting better and it was almost time for the air conditioning at a steady 70 degrees. The latter part of the drive was the most enjoyable, I prefer the long way round to Applecross rather than the Applecross Pass, the views are plentiful and there are many places to stop and take in the views! The campsite at Applecross can be very busy mid summer so booking is recommended.
A 5 minute walk ti the Inn takes you down to the front where there is ample seating outside, the food is excellent and the cosy bar friendly. It provides B&B and again booking is advised. A superb spot to end the day and watch the sunset of a cool drink!!

The journey from Fort William to Mallaig

Here`s a video I`ve recently edited with a combination of footage filmed by me and my farther, revealing sections of the spectacular 42 mile journey on “The Jacobite” steam train, from Fort William to Mallaig, in the West Highlands of Scotland.

After beginning at Fort William we gradually make our way through the urban areas before making our way into the Highlands and see some glorious mountainous sceneries, such as the view crossing the 21 arched Glenfinnan Viaduct (the railway bridge which appears in 3 of the Harry Potter films). Then after a brief stop at Glenfinnan Station (where the other “Jacobite” train comes passing us on its return journey to Fort William) we continue our journey by viewing more glorious mountainous views and the view of a big lake which contains a couple of small islands (one of which is Dumbledore`s final resting place in the last Harry Potter films), before we finally arrive at Mallaig. After completing the journey the video ends with 2 additional shots of “The Jacobite” filmed from the side of the railway (one of it departing from Mallaig station and one of it crossing over the canal at Banavie on its return journey).

NOTE: You`ll notice some dramatic changes in the condition of the weather as certain footages fade into the next (and different steam engines pulling the train). This is because the video conations a combination of footages shot from 3 different visits to the railway. Some were shot this year (these are the shots with bright sunshine), some shot from last year (these are the shots with dull grey skies and raindrops), and the one of The Jacobite leaving Mallaig near the end was shot back in 2007.
You`ll even notice some different quality in some footages (some being better quality than others), this is because they were shot by 3 different cameras during the visits. I also apologise for some loud whistling sounds, camera shaking and trees blocking some of the views.

Anyway I hope you`ll all enjoy the video. The Scottish West Highlands is definitely somewhere worth visiting.

During our 5-day take following the south part of the much longer Cape Wrath Trail, we had some very beautiful days for flying. Great memories way up in the western Highlands!

Off the Grid, I really appreciated the Mavic Pro's 27 min of flight time..

Old Photographs Kyle of Lochalsh Scotland

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Kyle of Lochalsh, a village on the North West coast of the Scottish Highlands. It is located on the Lochalsh peninsula, at the entrance to Loch Alsh, opposite the village of Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye. A ferry used to connect the two villages until it was replaced by the Skye Bridge, about a mile to the west, in 1995. Kyle of Lochalsh railway station is connected to Inverness by the Kyle of Lochalsh railway line, built in 1897 to improve public transport to the north west of Scotland. The line ends on the water's edge, near where the ferry connection used to run. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day
