Tremiti Islands, Foggia (Italy) - Travel Guide
Take a tour of Tremiti Islands in Foggia, Italy - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The clear blue waters of the Adriatic Sea are the setting for the Tremiti Islands, just off the coast of southeastern Italy.
The name of the island complex means tremors due to its history of seismic activity and fault location.
This archipelago consists of five islands, three of which are uninhabited due to either their low elevation or infertile composition.
The two inhabited islands feature a vast array of landscapes, including arid limestone, dense woods, and sandy beach.
Some of Italy's political prisoners, from as far back as the Roman Empire to the years of Mussolini's reign, have been confined here.
In 1989, the Tremiti Islands' importance and beauty were confirmed when it was named a natural marine reserve.

Tremiti Islands - Italy
Tremiti (Italian: Isole Tremiti) is an archipelago of the Adriatic Sea, north of the Gargano Peninsula. It constitutes a comune of Italy's Province of Foggia, and forms part of the Gargano national park (Parco Nazionale del Gargano); the name of the islands is linked to their increased seismic hazard, with a history of earthquakes - the source word tremolanti is linked to tremors.
The islands were used for the internment of political prisoners during Benito Mussolini's Fascist regime. This was not exactly a novelty: two millennia earlier Augustus had sent his granddaughter Julia the Younger in exile to one of these islands (then named Trimerus).
The islands are now an important tourist attraction - due to the clear waters surrounding them. ( source Wikipedia )
What are the top things to do in Montesilvano
What are the top things to do in Montesilvano
What to do in Montesilvano?
If you chose Montesilvano, you certainly want to spend the majority of your daytime on the beach sunbathing, in the see and chilling.
For those of you who, like me, cannot stay still, for longer than 10 minutes, you can always play beach volley, beach tennis or go for a walk along the coast.
Starting from the early evening till late at nigh Montesilvano hosts different entertainment events every night, including live music, live performances and an antique night market.
Some fascinating medieval castles that once dominated the entire region of Abruzzo are close to Montesilvano:
In the small town of Cepagatti, for example, you can visit a brick tower from the Lombardic period, at the base of which rest roman ruins to be discovered.
In Spoltore, you can see the majestic Castle De Cesaris and learn about its interesting history.
Also worth a separate visit is the town of Pescara.
Pescara has one of the main tourist ports on the Adriatic Sea, and until a couple of years ago it had a ferry link to Croatia.
In The touristic Pescara seaport, you can also explore the Museum of the Sea.
The Italian writer, poet, journalist, playwright and soldier during World War I, Gabriele D'Annunzio was born in Pescara. He occupied a prominent place in Italian literature from 1889 to 1910 and later political life from 1914 to 1924. His family home, now a museum, located in the old part of the town, can also be visited during the daytime.
In the summer season, it is possible to go on a different trip every day.
To Discover the more rural areas, without forgetting that just a few miles away you can also visit the Tremiti Islands, beautiful medieval towns and if these were not enough, well an outdoor visit to the Gran Sasso mountain will amaze you.
The main characteristic of the Abruzzo region is that you can change scenario entirely with less than one hour by car.

ITALIAN PORCHETTA DAY 2019 | Porchetta Abruzzo Italy (Italian Food) MUST WATCH
Day 8: Italy Unexplored
Learning an ancient cake recipe and Porchetta Day
Today is bitter sweet. It's possibly the meal everyone has waited for all week but also the day we all dreaded arriving..the final day of the tour!
After a light breakfast and a sombre mood among the group we arrive at an institution, born in 1923 and now home to some of the best pastries and fresh pasta in the province of Teramo. At the pastry shop we surprise our guests with not only our own Nonna Igea but also the resident Nonna's who work tirelessly day and night to help the power couple, Angelo who is a master pasta maker and Rosvelta who is an absolute legend when it comes to pastries - both traditional and modern.
We hear the story of Rosvelta and watch her create a delightful cake 'Pizza Dolce' that has been around for almost 100years, made up of the freshest of Italian custard and sponge (not to mention a few drops of alcohol!)
We also got a peek inside Angelo's pasta lab as he turned out some fresh ricotta ravioli made from double pasta sheets.
After some taste testing and observing all 3 Nonni rolling out fresh gnocchi, the very essence of the tour is upon us - family, tradition, food.
From here we take a trip down memory lane where we arrive at a slow food restaurant, an old stable turned food destination and are joined by friends who will be helping us with our final feast.
As we arrive at a long communal table in a family garden, adorned with the classic red and white check cloth, it is set up for both our families (new and old!)
The meal opens with the freshest of fresh bright red tomatoes dressed simply with thick extra virgin olive oil and basil from the garden, along with homemade bread...then baby peaches infused in truffle oil are served (You don't know you need them in your life until you've eaten them!)
Then, the magic begins...Paolo has been preparing slow cooked wild boar sauce and wood fire cooked porchetta for hours ...both are served to guests who savour every, single bite (and extra helpings). The porchetta crust is even crunchier then you can imagine...and what comes next is a surprise for all!
The day ends with a personalised Pizza Dolce cake from the pastry shop we visited earlier, with a group photo on top, and suddenly the local band come to play live just for our family day and an extra special farewell to all.
As we chat about the week that was, one of our guests had prepared a wonderful poem about the group and our experience and there is a lot of hugging and a few tears as we say goodbye to our new family hoping memories made will last a lifetime!
