Backroads of Montana: Cakes & Cowboys (2009)
Episode #31 of BACKROADS OF MONTANA. This BACKROADS OF MONTANA episode travels first to Park City, where everyone will tell you that the best angel food for miles around comes from The Cake Ladies. In Great Falls, we'll visit a special site that not only honors fallen soldiers, but pays tribute to living veterans as well. We stop in the central Montana town of Winifred, the unlikely location for what may be the world's largest Tonka toy collection. And we visit a working cowboy singer on his ranch south of Wibaux. William Marcus hosts the program from Malta.

How to Hike to the Hollywood Sign
MAPS & FULL INFO:
The Hollywood Sign hike is one of those iconic hikes that you need to do at least once. Not only will you hike to the Hollywood Sign, but you'll get some spectacular views of LA along the way.
When you’re planning your Hollywood Sign hike, I’d recommend doing it as early as possible. The hike gets very crowded. If you do go early, try to go on a day where there’s no marine layer (clouds).
The Hollywood Sign is on Mt Lee, which is on the edge (and within) Griffith Park. Griffith Park is LA’s version of Central Park in New York.
There are some steep sections on the hike, but thousands of people of all shapes and sizes hike to the Hollywood Sign, so you can too.
You actually hike up behind the Hollywood Sign. You get great views of most of LA and the big mountains to the east that separate LA from Palm Springs and the desert.
If you Google directions to the Hollywood Sign, you will be routed to the main part of Griffith Park, which is nowhere near the Hollywood Sign. That’s because the Hollywood Sign Trust worked with Google and Garmin to override any directions, bringing you miles away to a Hollywood Sign “viewing platform.” They did this because locals don’t like tourists walking through their neighborhood. Every trail in this guide is perfectly legal to hike on, all I ask is that you respect people’s private property.
Why Some Go Home Empty Handed. International Dating Advice From The Best
For all of the successes that guys have on Quest Tours, there are a handful who don't end up with a lady. And as much as that sucks, it's a dangerous thing to assume that their trip is labeled as a failure. There are quite a few legitimate reasons why that happened. Dream Connections' romance tour manager, Irina, and Mark Edward Davis discuss the pitfalls that guys fall into, how to avoid them, and how to win... No matter the final outcome.
Maybe he just wasn't ready to meet his 'other half' yet...
Maybe he just needed some time to find out important things about himself...
Or sadly, he may have had a good thing going with a lady... but blew it.
If you've followed Mark's story over the years, then you know that he traveled abroad FIVE TIMES before meeting Anna.
Were his first four trips Failures? Heck, no! It was all part of his journey that eventually lead him to meeting his half.

Mark discovered an amazing secret – one that changed his life – and is dedicated to sharing the good news. Mark previously owned a leasing company and first dated overseas on a company fishing trip in Brazil. What he experienced overseas changed his expectations for love, passion, and beauty forever. Soon after he began to date overseas with the intention of finding a life partner; he succeeded and married Anna Astafieva, from Nikolaev Ukraine. But he wasn’t the only one. Several friends found their life partners overseas and encouraged him to write a book about their discovery.
Since that first book was published in 2009 “Mastering the Adventure of International Dating” he and Anna have appeared on Dr. Phil, The TODAY Show, Women’s Entertainment Network, and conducted over 50 radio interviews. Mark and Anna now host groups of men on “Quest Tours” with their company, Dream Connections, with an 80% success rate.
Anna grew up in the town of Nikolaev, Ukraine, as Anna Astafieva. She has four generations of family there and openly declares that she would not have left if she could have found a faithful, family oriented man in her home town. She graduated high school at age 16 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in fashion. She worked and managed a crew at a local clothing factory and was asked to participate as a runway model for the company once or twice a month. Her boss at the factory was the one who suggested she might want to sign up with the ‘marriage agency’. She took her bosses’ advice and the rest is history.
Mark and Anna now work together to help good men from the West meet sincere women from Ukraine, Colombia, and Thailand – and aggressively combat the mail order bride stereotype myths.
In the years that followed their introduction Mark wrote a book and they have both been featured on cable TV shows, The TODAY Show with Matt Lauer, and more. When they first considered hosting their own introduction events, they took a hard look at the way things were being done and saw the need for something more authentic. Something that was truly focused on helping good men find a spouse and eliminating the bad eggs from both sides.
Dream Connections is the realization of that dream.
It has been very rewarding to see that our ideas have proven to work. Men who go on our tours are finding themselves connecting deeply with sincere women in Ukraine, Mark said. We know that these trips cost money and take time away from careers. It just makes sense to create a system that maximizes that opportunity to make lasting connections. Our clients do not see this as a vacation, but a quest to find their queen!

Sentinel Peak in Tucson, Arizona
Travel with me to Sentinel Peak in Tucson, Arizona where I explore this iconic landmark's history and influence upon the city. The peak is popularly known as A Mountain because of the giant A on its side for the University of Arizona.
Additional Note: Solomon Warner erected a flourmill on the slope of Sentinel Peak between 1874-75. This mill led some people to refer to Sentinel Peak as Warner's Mill during that time.

Los Angeles Driving Tour: Azusa Mountains. Road to Bridge to Nowhere Hiking Trailhead
Los Angeles Driving Tour: Azusa Mountains
111 Places in Los Angeles That You Must Not Miss:
Bridge to Nowhere
Location in California
The Bridge to Nowhere is an arch bridge that was built in 1936 north of Azusa, California in the San Gabriel Mountains. It spans the East Fork of the San Gabriel River and was meant to be part of a road connecting the San Gabriel Valley with Wrightwood.
History
The East Fork Road was still under construction when it was washed out during the great flood of March 1–2, 1938.
The East Fork Road project was abandoned as a result of the floods, leaving the bridge forever stranded in the middle of what is now the Sheep Mountain Wilderness.
Parts of the old asphalt roadway can still be found along the East Fork Trail which leads to the bridge, and there are still a number of concrete slabs which formed the foundations of destroyed bridges to the west of the Bridge to Nowhere. Indeed, the sign along the trail 30 feet east of the John Seals Bridge which announces the start of the Sheep Mountain Wilderness is resting on the old roadbed.
East Fork Trail
Currently there is a major rock fall at approximately 1.56 miles in along the trail at North 34 degrees 15.440, West 117 degrees 45.053, at 2271 feet altitude which poses a significant safety hazard to climb over. Additionally there is a cornice overhang remaining that is poised to come down and there is more friable San Gabriel granite to the right of the calving which is poised to come down. The United States Forest Service is looking at the problem with the San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders to determine what can be done about the hazard. As it is, safe passage through 50 meters of trail covered by the rock fall requires the crossing of the river two additional times.
The bridge is only accessible via a 10-mile round-trip hike or on horseback. Despite its popularity, the frequency with which the trails get washed out means that they are rough in places. The trail following the riverbed crosses the East Fork six times between the bridge and the trailhead.
Generally, one follows the river up its course, with several stream crossings before the ascent to the level of the bridge.
The maintenance of the East Fork Trail which leads to the Bridge To Nowhere is the responsibility of the San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders volunteer organization which works under the supervision of the United States Forest Service. Typically trail repairs and maintenance are performed by the Trailbuilders during the Winter months when snow within the Crystal Lake Recreation Area makes trail working at higher elevations in the San Gabriel Mountains difficult and at times hazardous.
In addition to steps being carved out of rock faces to improve hiking safety, trail definition being improved through removing growth and rocks along the trail, and other typical trail work, the Trailbuilders also built the John Seals Bridge across Laurel Gulch, utilizing helicopters, horses, mules, and many human volunteers to establish concrete footings and assemble a solid wooden crossing to ensure safe passage across the Gulch.
Obstructions along the trail which leads to the Bridge To Nowhere and other significant trail problems can be reported to the Trailbuilders.
Bungee jumping
The bridge is a private inholding within the Angeles National Forest. Bungee jumping is provided by a private company.[6] Jumpers typically meet at the main parking area for Heaton Flats Campground early in the morning, collecting at the Forest Service gate and then walking to the East Fork Trail trailhead where jumpers begin the hike generally as a group. After individuals jump from the bridge, people hike back either alone or in pairs or in groups, some times doing so after dark.
Safety issues
There have been a large number of fatalities along the East Fork of the San Gabriel River due in part to the swift water of the San Gabriel River which can rise significantly and without warning when heavy rainfall to the Northeast of the region introduces flash flood waters to the river. Crossing the river to and from the Bridge to Nowhere can be dangerous and even individuals crossing in groups have experienced fatalities.

Third Eye Retreat India With Dr. Pillai: Acquire Siddhi (Supernormal) Powers, Activate 3rd Eye
Travel India: Experience a spiritual adventure like no other - Recreate your destiny with enlightened master, Dr. Pillai, on his birthday in the most sacred spaces and beautiful locations of India.
Travel India On Dr. Pillai's Birthday Trip January 30, 2017
Dr. Pillai's birthday trips book up fast and this will be a small group with limited space, so you may want to reserve your seat now.
Dr. Pillai's 2013 message: I [was] in the United States. I just came to a destination, other than what I had in mind. But then, I did come to this new destination. I know there is a deeper reason beyond what the mind, the rational mind can show to you, as to why you are doing in a certain thing.. So, I ended up in a destination that was not in mind decided, but a soul destination. A destination is just a space and that space gives you the intelligence necessary for the revelation of a greater truth that isn't available to the mind.
That's how all my travels are. I am just pulled to a space where a certain higher truth will be revealed. That truth will not be revealed in any other place except that place, that space. It has the proper coordinates for the teaching takes place to take place or the understanding to take place. We have to be really so committed to this model of going with the flow of the higher mind and of the higher self. Then you will see that you will have a big harvest to make instead of a small mind directed, logical and limited harvest.
Travel India On Dr. Pillai's New Birthday Trip January 30, 2017
This comes over a period of time when you evolve from the mind to the soul intelligence. The Soul Intelligence picks up words from its domain. So does the mind intelligence picks up words from its own domain. What happens is the soul is not organized the way the mind is organized because there is a Higher Logic that the Soul follows. It's called, in science, in yogic science as Vitaka. Vitaka is the 'highest logic'.
The highest logic comes from the soul. Atmayanam Vitaka or Vitaka is Atmayanam. Siva Sutra says Vitaka Atmanyanam, the higher logic is the Soul's intelligence. Then you have to float: just not just go with the flow. But you Just Float. It's a beautiful word because when you float, you have no ego, you have no mind. You are just completely allowing, to be carried away. I think I first heard this particular use of the word from Osho when he used the word to show no ego and as a condition of death. A dead body floats; it doesn't have any goal. He also used another metaphor, two metaphors; one is 'the white sky' and 'the white cloud in the white sky or the blue sky'. The cloud has no destination. It goes where ever it is being carried away. Then 'the empty boat' is another metaphor: There is nobody to drive the boat. It is put on the Sea and then it goes wherever the wind blows and it is being taken there.
These are all beautiful metaphors to an ego-less, mind-free living, but a living aided by higher intelligence and that's how I ended up in a place. My travels and my doings are all guided by the Soul Intelligence of the Universe so the benefit goes to the Universe too.
