We head back home to Montana........for a visit.....
It's December 2017. 15 months ago we left our home in Montana to set out on our adventure. We finally made a complete loop of the United States and headed back to Montana for a quick visit. We left our fifth wheel in Washington and stayed with some friends for the weekend. It was a quick visit but we had fun and were able to visit several friends. Most of the friends we visited were Harmony's youngest friends. Several of the kids that used to come to Harmony's childcare came to visit and play. We went to EZ Air, an indoor trampoline gym, in Kalispell. We had two hours of jumping fun. We even had time to fit in a birthday party for some of the kids with birthdays coming up and we had some pizza.
We braved the weather and went to Lawrence Park for the kids to run and play. We got cold and wet but luckily we went to storage first and got our winter coats. We had a couple things to put in storage…mostly business papers, and we got a couple things out. Like our winter coats and woodcarving stuff.
One morning Doug went and licensed our Winnebago and got a new driver's license while Harmony and the kids went with some friends to Owen Sowerwine. Owen Sowerwine is a neat little riparian area with nature trails that is owned by the Audubon Society. We used to spend a lot of time there when we lived in Kalispell. We would go on nature walks, do yoga, paddleboard and swim in the river. It is one of our favorite places.
It was a fun, yet short, trip. It was kind of like a vacation. It was the first time since we left over a year ago that we stayed somewhere other than our house. When you have a house on wheels you can travel the whole country but still sleep in your own bed every night. We started and ended the trip with a visit the the St. Regis gas station which is always a fun stop. We even got to visit with some reindeer. It was a nice visit and we'll probably head back again, but it may be longer than 15 months this time.

Hauser Dam (also known as Hauser Lake Dam) is a hydroelectric straight gravity dam on the Missouri River about 14 miles (23 km) northeast of Helena, Montana, in the United States. The original dam, built between 1905 and 1907, failed in 1908 and caused severe flooding and damage downstream. A second dam was built on the site in 1908 and opened in 1911 and comprises the present structure. The current Hauser Dam is 700 feet (210 m) long and 80 feet (24 m) high.[1] The reservoir formed by the dam, Hauser Lake (also known as Hauser Reservoir) is 25 miles (40 km) long, has a surface area of 3,800 acres (1,500 ha), and has a storage capacity of 98,000 acre feet (121,000,000 m3) of water when full
Hauser Dam is a six-unit hydroelectric plant on the Missouri River, about 14 miles northeast of Helena, Mont. The units have a total generating capacity of 19 megawatts. (One megawatt can satisfy the average energy needs of 750 households.)
Hauser Dam, which began operation in 1911, is 720 feet long and 111 feet high. Its reservoir is 14 miles long and has a storage capacity of 64,253 acre-feet when combined with nearby Lake Helena's usable storage capacity. The dam is classified as a run-of-river project because it can generate electricity using the water that flows down the river, without the need to store additional water supplies.
Hauser Dam is one of eight hydroelectric plants and one reservoir along the Missouri and Madison rivers covered under PPL Montana's Project 2188 operating license. Through this license, PPL Montana works with state and federal agencies and private groups to implement a diverse array of environmental stewardship projects to protect habitats on or near the banks of the Missouri and Madison Rivers.
The dam has a security gate for full-time recreational pedestrian access to allow recreationists to get to the other side of the river, which is virtually inaccessible by other means.
PPL Montana contributed $1.4 million to acquire, design and develop White Sandy Beach at Hauser Dam. The company also has contributed a total of $400,000 to expand the dam's causeway and reconstruct the access site. In addition to its initial contributions, PPL Montana continues to provide $50,000 a year for the operation and maintenance of recreational sites at Hauser Dam.
Hauser Reservoir and nearby Lake Helena are popular sites for recreational activities such as fishing and hiking. Numerous campgrounds dot the river above and below the dam. PPL Montana's Holter Dam, located 29 miles downstream, offers additional recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.
