Nha Trang to Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City - Vietnam) by Rail - 4K
Today we board our train at Nha Trang station for the last leg of our journey along the route of the “Reunification Express”. We are able to watch every-day Vietnam at work as we pass towns, fields and villages, before leaving the coast for the last time. Our diesel locomotive slows to a crawl as it lifts its heavy train into the hills before descending to Ho Chi Minh City, still referred to as Saigon by many.

Part 3 still shows our train journey on board the TranzAlpine. Then the next day on the 29th November, we were on board the Coastal Pacific which runs from Christchurch - Picton.
Da 1431 Throttles Up The Taranaki Line
(New Zealand) This is a 'Steam Incorporated' excursion train called 'The Egmont Explorer' on its journey from Paekakariki to Stratford.
This video picks up the train at Marton Jnc & follows it as far as Hawera on the Marton - New Plymouth Line.
The MNPL has some good gradients north of Wanganui on which to watch trains perform.
The Westmere Bank is the North Island's steepest railway with a 1 in 33 to 1 in 35 gradient. The 'Blueskin Road' overbridge (from where one of these clips was filmed from) must be one of the best places in NZ to see a train go up a hill.
Da1431 was built in 1957 & was withdrawn from NZ Railway service in 1988.
1431 is seen here hauling Steam Inc's attractive heritage 'steel car' fleet, a few cars of which were constructed in the 1930's.
