Key West in One Day & Shopping (4K)
See where we went and what we did in Key West Florida for a day during our summer 2018 Cuba cruise! In our DIY excursion/vlog, we started at Mallory Square after getting from the Key West cruise port at the Fort Zachary Navy Outer Mole pier via a free shuttle trolley (watch our in-dept video on the port another video: ).
We then saw Mary the Wrecking/Work Boat, visited the Key West Historic Memorial Sculpture Garden, and headed southest on Whitehead Street. After about 20 minutes of brisk walking, we reached the Southernmost Point of Continental USA which was a nice spot for photo-ops. We then visited the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory (in-depth video: ), then took a Uber/Lyft back to Mallory Square.
There we visited the waterfront area and perused some quaint shops for souvenirs and interesting craft items from stores such as the Key West Sponge Market, before finally heading back to our cruise ship.
This was part of our 14 day Cuba cruise round-trip Boston in summer of 2018. =======================

Key West is a city in and the county seat of Monroe County, Florida, United States. The city encompasses the island of Key West, the part of Stock Island north of U.S. 1 (the Overseas Highway) (east), Sigsbee Park (north, originally known as Dredgers Key), Fleming Key (north), and Sunset Key (west, originally known as Tank Island). Both Fleming Key and Sigsbee Park are part of Naval Air Station Key West and are inaccessible by civilians. Key West is the county seat of Monroe County.[3] Key West is the southernmost city in the Continental United States. It also contains the southern terminus of U.S. 1, State Road A1A, the East Coast Greenway and, before 1935, the Florida East Coast Railway.
Key West is 129 miles (208 km) southwest (229.9 degrees) of Miami, Florida,[4] (about 160 miles (260 km) by car) and 106 miles (171 km) north-northeast (21.2 degrees) of Havana, Cuba.[5] Cuba, at its closest point, is 94 statute miles (151 km) south.[6] Key West is a seaport destination for many passenger cruise ships.[7] The Key West International Airport provides airline service. Hotels and guest houses are available for lodging. Naval Air Station Key West is an important year round training site for naval aviation due to the superb weather conditions. It is also a reason the city was chosen as the Winter White House of President Harry S. Truman. The central business district primarily comprises Duval Street, and includes much of the northwest corner of the island along Whitehead, Simonton, Front, Greene, Caroline, and Eaton Streets and Truman Avenue. Points of interest
One of the biggest attractions on the island is a concrete replica of a buoy at the corner of South and Whitehead Streets that claims to be the southernmost point in the contiguous United States (see Extreme Points). Erected in 1983, the famous brightly painted and labeled SOUTHERNMOST POINT CONTINENTAL U.S.A., it is one of the most visited and photographed attractions in Key West.[44]
However, the marker is not located at the southernmost point in the continental United States, as discussed below:
Whitehead Spit, on the Truman Annex property just west of the buoy, is the true southernmost point, but it has no marker since it is U.S. Navy land and cannot be entered by civilian tourists.
The private yards directly to the east of the buoy and the beach areas of Truman Annex and Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park also lie farther south than the buoy.
The farthest-south location that the public can visit is the seaward end of the White Street Pier.
Florida's, and by extension the continental United States', true physically southernmost point is Ballast Key, a private island owned by David W. Wolkowsky, a wealthy developer, about 10 miles (16 km) west of Key West. Although Ballast Key is located within both the Key West National Wildlife Refuge and the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, signs on the island strictly prohibit unauthorized visitors.
The claim 90 Miles to Cuba on the monument is close to correct, Cuba at its closest point has been measured at 94 statute miles (151 km) from Key West.
The original Key West settlement on the western part of the island is called Old Town and comprises the Key West Historic District. It includes the major tourist destinations of the island, including Mallory Square, Duval Street, the Truman Annex and Fort Zachary Taylor. It is where are found the classic bungalows and guest mansions.
USA Vlog #5 - Disneyland and Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles
Our trip through the USA continued in Los Angeles where we went to see the happiest place on earth: Disneyland! The day after that we went down to Rodeo Drive and the Griffith Observatory!
DAY 12
We got up early and took the car to drive out to Disneyland California. I was surprised as to how small the park felt overall, at least in comparison to Euro Disneyland. But then again maybe I was a lot younger when I went the last time.
Me and Celina had a lot of fun just walking around and exploring the different areas of Disneyland. I went on a couple of rides and then we went over to the California Adventure Park that is adjacent to Disneyland. California Adventure Park is more aimed at slightly bigger kids, with its main focus being Pixar films.
They had a huge roller coaster and Ferris wheel setup and lots of little rides and shops all along the way. Most impressive was a section of Route 66 from the Pixar movie Cars that they had rebuilt to scale. We walked around and explored the homes of most of the inhabitants of the movie there which was great fun!
We had dinner at Red Lobster and we're both keen to go back there - they had great seafood in a family diner atmosphere.
DAY 13
On the morning of Day 13 we went out to Rodeo Drive, a very high class area in Los Angeles with high end brands and a very well maintained look. Clean streets, lined with palm trees lined with shops. We spent a little bit of time shopping around and then drove out to the Griffith Observatory.
The Griffith Observatory overlooks the Hollywood sign on one side and downtown Los Angeles on the other. It is a public observatory filled with great exhibits and information about stars, the tides, planets and everything else relating to our galaxy and the universe.
It was quite busy but we managed to get a good place in the Planetarium for a very well presented show to teach us about the universe and how our understanding of it has changed over the centuries.
In the evening we went to the Glendale Galleria, a high end shopping centre that reminded me a lot of Chadstone here in Melbourne. For dinner we tried out Olive Garden and ended up with way more good food than we could finish - but fortunately in the US they are more than happy to wrap you any leftovers (= second and third meal) up to take home and eat whenever.

We're enjoying Dia de Los Muertos celebrations in Aguascalientes, a TOTALLY underrated Mexican city.

We're celebrating our first ever Dia de Los Muertos, also known as Day of the Dead to English speakers, in Aguascalientes Mexico. Before coming to this city, we had no idea what to expect for Dia de Muertos OR the city itself. Now, we can safely say that neither the hype about this Mexican holiday nor the city itself let us down. We had an absolute blast at the Isla de San Marcos celebrations in Aguascalientes and all across the city.
As the Dia de Muertos festivities come to a close, we try to enjoy the last bits of time in what we think is an incredibly underrated city in Mexico. Everyone talks about the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico in Patzcuaro and the surrounding cities or the big shenanigans in Mexico City, but we can't imagine why no one considers Aguascalientes!
We only planned to stay here for a few days during our Dia de Los Muertos trip, but the kind and generous people, polite drivers, beautiful sunsets, and charming culture have us planning another trip back to Aguascalientes PRONTO!! :)

Dry Tortugas/Fort Jefferson, Key West, FL
Took a 45 minute seaplane flight from key west international airport to the Dry Tortugas and Fort Jefferson. The plane only holds 10 people. Almost 70 miles west of Key West. In 1846 is when the construction of Fort Jefferson began.Some of the cannons that you see could shoot up to 6 miles I used with my gopro hero 3+ black and Nikon d7100
