WHAT TO DO IN BAVARIA in 60 seconds
Mighty mountains and castles, hearty food and leather trousers – a trip through Bavaria is like wandering through a stereotypical dream of Germany. Here are our highlights in 60 seconds!

It went all too fast? You want the details? No problem.
Here are our recommendations in order of appearance:
00:08 Schwaigsee, Upper Bavaria
Just one example of the beautiful views over lakes and mountains of the Upper Bavaria and Allgäu regions.
00:10 Bratwursthäusle, Nuremberg
Nuremberg is famous for its small grilled sausages. They are usually served with mustard and sauerkraut. And delicious.
00:12 Klosterschenke Weltenburg, Kelheim
Of course: No trip through Bavaria without a stop at a beer garden. The one at the monastery in Weltenburg is especially pretty. Prost to the monks!
00:13 Altenauer Dorfwirt, Altenau
Bavarians love and live their traditions. If you are really lucky like us you end up sitting in the middle of leather trousers and accordions for a Bavarian concert.
00:15 Alte Utting, Munich
“Let’s take that old ship of the Ammersee and put it on a railway bridge!” These young Germans had balls – and are now owning the most unique bar complex in Bavarian’s capital.
00:19 Weißwurstäquator, Zwiesel
The “equator of the Weißwurst” (a typical Bavarian sausage) is a playful description for a (pseudo-)cultural border that separates parts of Bavaria from the rest of Germany.
00:23 Würzburger Residenz
The UNESCO world heritage site is said to be one of the world’s most impressive baroque castles and well, it is simply beautiful!
00:26 Schloss Neuschwanstein, Schwangau
This is it. THE fairy tale castle of all fairy tale castles. The blueprint of the Walt Disney Castle.
00:31 Fuggerei, Augsburg
The Fuggerei is the world’s oldest social housing complex. Woodbine makes it an especially pretty site in autumn.
00:32 Marienplatz, Munich
The main square of Munich, right in front of the very impressive city hall. Its glockenspiel is very famous. We find it totally overrated.
00:34 Malerwinkel, Königssee
Among all the German lakes-by-the-mountains, this is the most stunning one! You'll get the best view over Königssee from a lookout called painter's corner.
00:36 Pottenstein, Franconian Switzerland
We love the area around Pottenstein for its wicked towering rock formations. THE Instagram shot would be the half-timbered museum on top of a rock at Tüchersfeld.
00:38 Walhalla, Donaustauf
The impressive hall of fame honors distinguished people in German history with busts and memorial tablets. Later additions include Martin Luther and Sophie Scholl.
00:41 Zugspitze, Wetterstein Mountains
Germany’s highest mountain – and best views. Undoubtedly.
00:43 Markgräfliches Opernhaus, Bayreuth
This must be the most beautiful opera house we have ever visited! The baroque court theatre is also a UNESCO world heritage site.
00:45 Augsburger Puppenkiste, Augsburg
This quirky little museum is dedicated to the German version of The Muppet Show. Its modern fairy tales are famous nationwide.
00:47 Romantische Straße
The “romantic street” connects some of the most famous tourist destinations: Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Würzburg, Augsburg and Neuschwanstein Castle.
00:48 Gaststätte Röhrl, Eilsbrunn
They serve a delicious Pretzel-Schnitzel. They had lots of time to practice. The Guiness Book of Records confirmed it: this is the world’s oldest tavern!
00:50 Vineyards, Iphofen
We loved small and cosy Iphofen with its various vineyards. Who knew Bavarians were as passionate about wine as they are about beer? We recommend
00:52 Danube River Cruise, Passau
The scenic “City of Three Rivers” is best enjoyed from the deck of a ship.
00:54 Danube Gorge, Weltenburg
The impressive rock formations in the Kelheim area are a great backdrop for canoeing trips. We went with:
00:56 Olympiastadion, Munich
Climbing the roof and ziplining across an iconic stadium is so much better than just going around it, trust us!
01:00 Rachelsee, Bavarian Forest
The massive Bavarian Forest with its lush vegetation and peaceful lakes is a paradise for nature lovers.
01:01 Eibsee, Grainau
Remember the thumb rule of 00:08? This is the perfect example for it!
01:03 Altes Rathaus, Bamberg
The old town hall of Bamberg looks like someone glued a half-timbered house to another. It’s the highlight of its historic centre.

Taking the train from Nuremberg to Erlangen, Germany - 7 June 2015
After a short stay in Nuremberg, Germany, it was now time to unfortunately leave. Before leaving for my Viking River Cruise onboard Viking Atla, I needed to make my way from Nuremberg to Erlangen, Germany. After buying my ticket at Nuremberg Hauptbahnhof, I then needed to locate platform four. The train was already at the station and in no time flat I was onboard the train and headed to Erlangen. Follow me on this quick video as I ride the train. First you'll see lots of buildings, graffiti, and people and then the German countryside appears in all of its glory.
Read all of my posts on Nuremberg on my blog here:
Video was taken with my iPhone 6Plus and portions were videotapes using Hyperlapse. The still images were also taken with my iPhone 6Plus.
