Amtrak Coast Starlight Trains - Santa Barbara, CA

A collection of clips featuring Amtrak's Coast Starlight service in and around Santa Barbara. All shots filmed in mid October 2016. Wasn't fortunate enough to get any real great P42 leaders this go around...most of the horns are below average. So I hit up a few newer locations for a change of pace.
Train 1... Amtrak #11 near Refugio State Beach ironically with the P42DC #11 leading the set.
Train 2... Amtrak #14 at Ellwood with AMTK 11 leading again, same train set as previous train, just a day later.
Train 3... P42DC #83 leads the southbound Coast Starlight at Ellwood.
Train 4... Amtrak #14 near the Andree Clark Bird Refuge in downtown Santa Barbara.
Train 5... Amtrak #14 again, chased up to the bluffs along the Pacific Ocean just south of Gaviota. Super windy at this spot!
Train 6... Amtrak #14 arrives into Santa Barbara running over 2 hours late. P42DC #183 with an extremely raspy K5LA leads.
Train 7... Same train, now departing the station heading toward San Luis Obispo.
Train 8... Amtrak #11 at a private crossing in Goleta with AMTK 137 and AMTK 17 powering the set.

Train #3...Amtrak #14 again, this time passing under the Storke Rd overpass in Goleta, Ca. A southbound UP autorack train waits for #14 to pass.
Train #4...Cabcar #6908 leads Amtrak #784 past Milpas St.
Train #5...Amtrak #775 arrives into Santa Barbara with F59PHI #455 leading. Good K5LA horn on this unit!
Train #6...Right as Amtrak #775 crossed Montecito St, Amtrak Coast Starlight #11 pulls into Santa Barbara station 31 minutes early! Great K5LA horn on P42 #15, as well as an awesome lashup!
Train #7...Amtrak #11 departs Santa Barbara with more nice sounding K5LA music! Wish the engineer would've been a little heavier on the horn. P42DC #15 has one of the best K5LA horns out there. Dash 8 #509 and Cascades F59PHI #466 help power the set.

Here are some Amtrak Surfliner and Coast Starlight video clips from the scenic city of Santa Barbara, Ca. I took a 3-day trip up here and decided to do some Amtrak filming during my stay. This video is Part 1 of 3. I'm going to make separate videos for each day I was there. This video is everything from the first day, Friday December 2nd, 2011.

Train #1...Amtrak Surfliner #799 arrives into Santa Barbara station led by P42DC #62. Nice K5LA horn on the engine as it crosses State St.
Train #2...Just about 3 minutes later, Amtrak #799 departs Santa Barbara.
Train #3...P42DC #45 and P42DC #119 power the northbound Coast Starlight train #14 past Anacapa St. Weak engineer on the horn; AMTK 45 has a great K5LA horn, just not displayed here.
Train #4...P42DC #71 and Cascades F59PHI #467 lead Amtrak Coast Starlight #11 out of Santa Barbara right on-time at 6:17pm. Nasty horn on AMTK 71.
