Rides at California's Great America - Santa Clara, California
A few random videos of the rides and such at California's Great America in Santa Clara, California, United States.
Great America was the final Cedar Fair park left for me to visit and while I had low expectations, the park was actually pretty OK. The coasters, outside of say... Flight Deck and RailBlazer are sub-par...but the park has a nice collection of Flat Rides, if they could only run them at speed! Bitching aside, I did enjoy my day at the park and the fact that *everything* was a walk on really helped. Also, cant go wrong with a $15 Sky Coaster ride. :D ((also, also, as much as I didn't wanna like it... RailBlazer is rather fantastic... But I still think I liked Flight Deck better!))
Rides shown in order - Carousel Columbia, Patriot (B&M), Orbit (Schwarzkopf), Drop Tower (Intamin), Woodstock Express (Intamin), Celebration Swings (Zierer), Delta Flyer/Eagle's Flight (Von Roll), Psycho Mouse (Arrow), Centrifuge (Schwarzkopf), Grizzly, Delirium (Chance), Demon (Arrow), GR8 SK8 (Interactive Rides), Rip Roaring Rapids (Intamin), Flying Eagles (Larson?), Flight Deck (B&M), Berserker (Schwarzkopf), RailBlazer (Rocky Mountain Construction), Snoopy Dance Party, Park Overview from Star Tower.

What if California's Great America Never Removed Invertigo?
In 2011, California's Great America removed their then tallest coaster in the park, Invertigo, for no apparent reason other than to make room for new attractions. Ever wondered what would have happened if CGA decided to keep the coaster? Watch this Video to find out!

Patriot is a floorless roller coaster located in Celebration Plaza at the California's Great America amusement park in Santa Clara, California, United States. The roller coaster originally opened as Vortex on March 9, 1991. It was a stand-up roller coaster designed by Werner Stengel and manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard.
Vortex last operated as a stand-up coaster on September 5, 2016, and it reopened as Patriot on April 1, 2017. The ride was converted to a sit-down configuration featuring new floorless trains and a new color scheme.
The coaster takes riders to a 91-foot height after which it makes an initial left hand drop into its first loop. It then executes a left turnaround to travel into another left turnaround through its loop. The train then travels to the other end of its layout into the corkscrew element and another left turnaround after which it enters into the final brake run.
The course used to cross over the park train's railroad tracks by the corkscrew. The coaster's lift hill stands parallel to the footers of the former Tidal Wave looping shuttle coaster.

Patriot Roller Coaster Onride POV HD - California's Great America
Take a front row seat aboard Patriot at California's Great America in Santa Clara, California.
Patriot, the first floorless coaster in the park’s 41-year history, will emerge from the retired Vortex coaster, one of the oldest stand up coasters in the United States.
Patriot takes riders to a 91-foot height before plummeting them into a 360-degree loop at 45 miles per hour. Patriot’s position in the park makes it a dynamic visual from three different sections of Great America.
The inspiration for the coaster’s name was taken from the fact that the ride is nestled adjacent to All American Corners within a park whose name celebrates America.
The transition from a stand up to floorless ride includes state-of-the-art blue and white trains positioning guests with their feet dangling above the blue and white track.

The Turn of the Century coasters opened with both Marriott's Great America parks in 1976 and were designed by Arrow Dynamics. Both were painted blue and were among some of the first roller coasters to feature a double corkscrew. They also featured two airtime hills after the first drop. The hills were well known for ejecting loose articles from the trains, such as hats, sunglasses and stuffed animals. The ride was custom-built for both parks.
After the 1979 season, Turn of the Century was heavily modified. The airtime hills after the first drop were removed and replaced with two back to back vertical loops and a lighted tunnel. Fake rock formations were built around the second loop and around the first half of the lift hill, with a third formation just before the corkscrews. The entire ride was painted black and was renamed Demon. In addition to the re-design, the theme was changed as well. Fog machines were placed in the tunnels, blood red colored water fell out of the rock formation by the corkscrews and a unique logo was unveiled. The original trains were also modified. A three-dimensional logo was attached to the front car of each train and flames were painted on the sides of the cars. After the loops were added, it became the second four-inversion roller coaster, after the Carolina Cyclone which opened two months earlier.
The storyline of the ride's transformation heard in the Demon soundtrack is that the park accidentally missed three payments on the roller coaster, and that a demon has repossessed the ride.

A fun roller coaster for all ages. I first rode a mouse-coaster at the California state fair ~15 years ago. It was an old rusted, rickety thing that had no brakes mid-ride. Its nice to see these kinds of rides scale up to the big theme parks.
