Compton Hill Water Tower -St Louis, MO
Please watch in 1080 if you can.
My parents and I explore the The Compton Hill Water Tower in St. Louis, MO on Sat 5/17/14. The Compton Water Tower is only open about once or twice a month, and only for a few hours at a time, but offers some really cool, 360 degree views of the city. While we were there, there was a German heritage in St. Louis celebration going on, and a tiny (but awesome) car show. The statue in the video, The Naked Truth, was a gift to the city of St. Louis by the German-American Alliance in 1914.
The Compton Hill Water Tower, built in 1898, is the youngest of three remaining stand pipe-water towers in St. Louis. In 1901, more than 423 stand pipe style water towers existed in the United States. As of 2008, only 7 remain standing, three of which are in St. Louis. The 179-foot tower was built to disguise a 6-foot in diameter, 130-foot tall standpipe in its interior. The standpipe helped to control the dangerous surges in the city's pipes caused by the reciprocating pumps and maintain an even water pressure. More:

Nine Academy | Community Stories | Compton Hill Water Tower
Nine Network of Public Media offers digital story telling training to individuals and organizations to help them tell and share their stories of impact. On April 23, 2014 Nine Academy participants screened their digital stories. In this video, Nine Community Producer Aaron Young interviews John Maxwell from The Water Tower & Park Preservation Society of Compton Hill. The organization is devoted to the restoration, improvement, maintenance, and exhibition of the St. Louis landmark, which has been on the National Registry of Historic Places since 1972.
Day One - Occupy The MidWest Conference - 3.15.12
Occupy The MidWest Regional Conference - Spring 2012 - Day 1
St. Louis, MO - March 15, 2012
Occupiers from around the MidWest gathered in St. Louis, MO to participate in a weekend full of teach-ins, peaceful marches and rallies, general assemblies, and fellowship.
Day One included a march in downtown St. Louis visiting Bank of America, The Federal Reserve, and the St. Louis Arch for the first General Assembly of Occupy Midwest.
In the evening, hundreds of peaceful occupiers (including children) rallied at Compton Hill Reservoir Park and were violently dispersed with excessive force by the St. Louis police department. Over a dozen occupiers were arrested, many of them unnecessarily beaten and tazed by police while attempting to relocate the camp on the public sidewalks and streets of the city.

Occupy the Midwest Arrests
On March 15, 2012, over 50 police officers attacked 150 protesters after they complied with orders and left a park in St. Louis, MO. Fourteen were arrested, two badly beaten, others pepper sprayed. It was utter chaos. Watch the police officer at the last 1:15 of the video, and again when he's pleading with me to get back on the sidewalk. He looks absolutely stunned by his own fellow officers' actions. His expression says it all.
