Andy's National Trust Travel Blogs: Tintagel Castle, King Arthur's seat of power
There are 500+ places of interest in the UK under the National Trust banner and I will be attempting to visit as many as I can, reporting as I do all the important stuff relative to accessibility.
Tintagel castle is actually English Heritage, so I got my wires crossed and presumed it was NT because the OLD POST OFFICE is just down the road. I think I may have gone to visit for free, oh well.
It was not really very accessible but the guys did their best to get my scooter down the hill to the bottom, at £2 each way. You would need to be able to board a land rover, otherwise, the visit will be impossible.
The site of Tintagel Castle has been inhabited at least since the late Roman period, and a community flourished here in the 5th to 7th centuries. In the 12th century Tintagel gained literary fame when Geoffrey of Monmouth named it as the place where King Arthur was conceived. These Arthurian associations may have inspired Richard, Earl of Cornwall, to build a castle at Tintagel in the 1230s, and the enduring legend still ensures Tintagel’s international renown.

Cornwall Castaway - Newquay Activity Centre
Hi I’m Rob Barber and I’m director of the Newquay Activity Centre.
We are two time winners of the Cornwall Tourism Awards and we are number one ranked on Trip Advisor.
I am here today to talk to you about our brand new activity, The Cornwall Castaway.
So, what happens in this activity? We re-enact an important historical moment that happened 100 years ago.
100 years ago, right at the end of our headland on the Cribbar reef, a ship was getting wrecked on the reef and the lifeboat men from Newquay rallied together to save that ship.
Some of those men decided that they didn’t want to go out and deemed it too dangerous, but a maverick crew decided to go and try to save the folk that were going down in the ship wrecked vessel.
As soon as the lifeboat hit the water, it capsized.
It was crazy high seas and it was freezing cold as it was December.
Luckily for the lifeboat crew they knew the coast and managed to swim using the currents and the ocean swell and get themselves washed into a cave called the Tea Caverns.
They managed to survive for 3 days and 3 nights by foraging and living off the fat of the land and keeping warm together before they escaped the cave and got back to the town and were recognised as heroes for their gallant bravery.
So this leads us to what we are doing today.
We are going to relive that by doing some Coasteering, some climbing, some scrambling, some caving, some jumping into deep water plunge pools, we are going to go into some caves and create a fire and learn some foraging skills.
Once we have created our fire we are going to do a little bit of cooking. We are then going to escape that situation using one of our Super Stand Up Paddle Boards which is the nearest thing we have to a modern day raft and we are then going to paddle to safety.
Do you think that you have the minerals to do it?
Well you tell me.
Get in touch with us, it’s the most awesome group activity Newquay has to offer.

World First Hotel Concept — HOMETEL | Exploring Southampton & Accommodation Tour | room2
We were looking for Southampton accommodation and came across room2, a hometel style hotel in Southampton and... ✈ Check out room2 pricing and reviews here:
Southampton hotels are in pretty high demand as people travel to the cruise port and stay, so we did a lot of research on the best accommodation options in this part of England. room2 is the site we kept coming back to, it's not a hotel, it's not just accommodation, it's the worlds first hometel... which sounded interesting!
We decided to travel to Southampton a few days earlier and scope out this new kind of accommodation option, we're glad we gave it a try! If you're looking for hotels in Southampton we can highly recommend you give room 2 a look:
↠ room2 website:
There's not a huge amount online when searching for what to do in Southampton, so we kept things local, at least after we finally pulled ourselves away from room 2 haha. Bargate is one of the more common search results and the history in this part of the UK comes up often also - all worthy of a little travel day to explore.
Disclaimer: Thanks to room2 for allowing us to share this spot with you. As always, the opinions we share are our own and this hotel / hometel genuinely hits the spot for the type of Airbnb or accommodation we search for everywhere.

Highlights of Beautiful Cornwall Coast Path Walk UK Made by Huggie2love
Highlights of My journey along the South West Coast Path in Beautiful Cornwall UK I have use this Beautiful song Carrickfergus a Beautiful Irish folk song on this new Video. Hope you like and enjoy this new video My Featuring pictures & videos are of Newquay to St Ives River Helford Falmouth St Mawes Porthleven, Mevagissey Charlestown, Fowey Polrun Polperro I’ve started the walk from Sandbanks Poole Dorset South West Coast Path, 630 miles of stunning scenery. I Walk through Dorset Devon and Cornwell on to finish at Somerset’s Minehead. The Walk of a Lifetime I’ve been through beautiful picturesque Harbours and Villages and stunning scenery all along the Coastal Path.
Just outside the market town of St Austell is Charlestown, a beautifully preserved Georgian port. The port was begun in 1791 by Charles Rashleigh, an entrepreneur who wanted to take advantage of a booming mining industry in south Cornwall.
Fowey is a bustling small port which still has a busy commercial life in addition to providing attractive moorings for leisure boats. Its harbour is flanked by fourteenth century blockhouses, one in Fowey and one on the opposite side of the river in Polruan St Catherine's Point is on the Fowey side of the harbour entrance. In medieval times St Catherine's chapel stood on the cliff top, displaying a light and functioning as a lighthouse. The fort below, St Catherine’s Castle was built in the reign of Henry VIII to defend the harbour entrance.
Polruan is an ancient fishing village just across the water from the better-known Fowey Built on a very steep hill, Polruan is bounded on three sides by water; Pont Creek to the north, the River Fowey to the west and the English Channel
There are frequent ferries to Polruan, an interesting village with cottages clinging to the hillside. It is worth crossing to see the panoramic views from the top of the hill.
The South West Coast Path National Trail is rated as one of the top walks to be found anywhere in the world Where else can you walk along 630 miles of such superb coastline? The heritage, wildlife, geology and scenery along the way are truly inspirational and every day walking it brings stunning new experiences. To embark on the challenge of hiking the entire route from Somerset's Minehead on the edge of Exmoor around to the shores of Poole Harbour in Dorset, “Have a lovely evening and Beautiful Wednesday much ԼƠƔЄ (((Hugs))) from Huggie xoxo
