Tintagel or Trevena is a civil parish and village situated on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The village of Tintagel and nearby Tintagel Castle are associated with the legends surrounding King Arthur and the knights of the Round Table. The village of Tintagel has, in recent times, become attractive to day-trippers and tourists, and is one of the most-visited places in Britain.
Tintagel Castle is a medieval fortification located on the peninsula of Tintagel Island adjacent to the village of Tintagel, north Cornwall in England in the United Kingdom. The site was possibly occupied in the Romano-British period, as an array of artefacts dating to this period have been found on the peninsula, but as yet no Roman era structure has been proven to have existed there.
The former Vicarage was built in the early 17th century and substantial additions were made in the late 18th and mid-19th centuries. In the grounds is Fontevrault Chapel and a columbarium which is one of the best preserved in Cornwall. Tintagel Primary School was built at Treven in 1914 to replace the old church school (founded 1874) and has been extended since.
King Arthur's Hall (opened 1933) is a historic building in Fore Street, Tintagel, Cornwall, England, UK. Built in the early 1930s by Frederick Thomas Glasscock (died 1934), it originally served as the headquarters for a social organization known as the Order of the Fellowship of the Knights of the Round Table. The Church of St Materiana (Tintagel Parish Church) has been Anglican since the English Reformation. It was originally built in Norman times.
The cliffs from Backways Cove, south of Trebarwith Strand to Willapark just to the south of Boscastle are part of the Tintagel Cliffs SSSI (a Site of Special Scientific Interest), designated for both its maritime heaths and geological features. There are also four Geological Conservation Review sites. Tintagel lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Almost a third of Cornwall has AONB designation, with the same status and protection as a National Park.

Tintagel church
This video is of the inside of St Maritina's church at Tintagel, Cornwall, UK. The church is one of the most famous churches in the UK. The church overlooks the sea with views to Port Isaac, Boscastle, Crackington Haven, Lundy island (but a faint view and only in good weather) and, of course, Tintagel castle, said to be the birthplace of King Arthur. This church is just above the castle.

THE CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF FONTEVRAULT, TINTAGEL
THE CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF FONTEVRAULT, TINTAGEL. I HOPE YOU ENJOY THE PEACE AND QUIET OF THIS WONDERFUL PLACE.
Visited MARCH 2012 IN GLORIOUS SPRING WEATHER.
THE CHAPEL OF OUR LADY OF FONTEVRAULT can be found on Vicarage hill leading from TINTAGEL ( just north of the WOOTONS COUNTRY HOTEL ) to SAINT MATERINAS CHURCH which sits atop the Cliffs overlooking KING ARTHURS CASTLE.
We are semi regular visitors to this area and it was on this visit, rather sad to see the old vicarage garden in such a poor condition with many mature trees having been removed , although restoration of the gardens does seem to be taking place.
The Church of England Vicarage and Chapel was sold quite recently. and this included the Chapel. Visitors old and new must be very grateful to the new owners for keeping this wonderful and very beautiful Chapel open for visitors. but it is certainly well past its former glory, as visitors who do not understand the significance of this holy place litter the Altar with votive candles and other items. Thankfully the Chapel still retains its peaceful and reverent ambience.
***IF YOU CLICK ON THE INTERNET FONTEVRAULT CHAPEL - TINTAGEL - KING ARTHUR COUNTRY you will find some beautiful photo's of the Chapel in all its former glory.

Tintagel Castle (Cornish: Dintagel, meaning fort of the constriction) is a medieval fortification located on the peninsula of Tintagel Island adjacent to the village of Tintagel, north Cornwall in England in the United Kingdom. The site was possibly occupied in the Romano-British period, as an array of artefacts dating to this period have been found on the peninsula, but as yet no Roman era structure has been proven to have existed there. It subsequently saw settlement during the Early Medieval period, when it was probably one of the seasonal residences of the regional king of Dumnonia. A castle was built on the site by Richard, 1st Earl of Cornwall in the 13th century, during the Later Medieval period, after Cornwall had been subsumed into the kingdom of England. It later fell into disrepair and ruin.
