Flyfishing Deschutes River Oregon May 2016
I flyfish the Deschutes River in Oregon. We camp at the Trout Creek Campground. We fish the Warmsprings to Trout Creek section about 7.2 miles of river. We fish both sides of the river. The Reservation side from Dry Creek down to the Jefferson County Line.
I basically only Dry Fly fish here and with only one fly. I just bring a lot of them. Between the bushes, Alder's and fish I can go through 6 to 12 a day. I use a fly I have developed over the years, the Dusty Stone. Not commercially available. I end up giving away about 150 of these fly's each year.
This the Salmon Fly hatch and Golden Stone hatch for the most part this time of year. There are caddis and mayfly's also.
When fishing here be sure you are familiar with all of the regulations, hense the trip will become very expensive for you.

Little Deschutes trip April 2016
A 4-day, 47-mile solo adventure canoeing two of Central Oregon's beautiful rivers. Starting point: Dorrance Meadow Rd. on the Little Deschutes. Ending point: Benham Falls boat ramp on the Deschutes. Music: Float and The Barrier by Sunny Day Scenario.
Fly fishing the Deschutes
My first trip out west with a great group of guys. We spent three days fly fishing the Deschutes in Oregon during early October. There wasn't a lot of dry fly action although we saw loads of October caddis, caddis and some BWOs but there was a ton of fish to be had subsurface. We had a couple encounters with some Pacific Steelhead, but trust me we will return with a vengeance.
Notes:
1) Sorry video is a little long but it was a three day trip with a lot of footage and fishing time.
2) For anyone who doesn't know about the Deschutes, it is one interesting river with a ton of rules. For example, your not allowed to fish out of the boat or on the right side of the river since it is a private reservation.
3) The only steelhead landed, I, of course, did not have my go pro on my head but it was still a behemoth.

Rogue River Outfitters | Grand Ronde | Oregon Flyfishing
It's a 50 mile float beginning at Minim Oregon, which is approximately 30 miles from LaGrande, Oregon and ending in Troy, Oregon approximately 8 miles from the Oregon and Washington border.
The Grand Ronde is a beautiful free flowing river cutting it's way through a deep canyon where it eventually flows into the Snake River. The canyon is timbered in fir and ponderosa pines enter spurts with large grassy meadows and flat benches that become our camp site's.
Our fishing day begins as we launch our drift boats and ready our rods at 9:00 am, as we drift the river your guide will steady the boat while you cast into the riffles and rocky shore lines where the trout lay and wait.

Higa Float '08: Wading Party
The HIGA/Forest Park/St. Charles float trip was scheduled for Friday, September 5. Due to a storm the previous day, there was significant flooding on the Meremac River. Since no one thought to call the outfitter, we didn't know the river was closed until we got there (over an hour drive). Not to be deterred, we stopped at the Meremac Cavern State Park to eat lunch and commune with nature. Someone (Deb) decided it was a good idea to wade across the flooded parking lot to a rock island (formerly the river bank, I think).

EP10 Fishing the Deschutes River with Amy Hazel of Deschutes Angler Fly Shop
Fishing the Deschutes River in central Oregon with with Amy Hazel. Amy and her husband John own Deschutes Angler Fly Shop in Maupin so they are located in the center of all the action the Deschutes has to offer. The Deschutes cuts through the middle of the state and runs for 252 miles from its' headwaters in southern Oregon to the mouth where it flows into the Columbia River. The Deschutes has a strong population of Summer Steelhead and redside trout that make the Deschutes a jewel among the rivers out west. There are a few rules involved in fishing the Deschutes but those rules are also how this amazing fishery stays available to anyone who may want to catch fish there.
Low flows strand fish in Deschutes River side channel
Volunteers joined Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to help rescue trout, whitefish and sculpin that were stranded in a side channel of the Deschutes River. Kim Brannock of Bend was running along the Deschutes when she first noticed the dying fish. Hear her talk about some of the challenges for the river caused by managing water for irrigation. Trout Fishing on Wilderness Unlimited's White River Ranch
Wilderness Unlimited is the West's largest premiere, private, screened, family-oriented hunting, fishing, and camping membership club in California and Oregon, founded in 1987.
I am a 20+ year member.
Members have exclusive access to patrolled, managed private ranches behind locked gates away from the irresponsible crowds on public lands. Members have access to nearly 100 different ranches in Oregon and California for trout, steelhead and salmon fishing, warm water fishing for bass, catfish, crappie and other panfish, fair chase hunting for ducks, geese, quail, dove, chukar, turkey, pheasants, black-tailed deer and mule deer, Roosevelt and Rocky Mountain elk, hogs, bear, cougar and other wild game (depending on habitat, geographic location of ranches and state regulations).
New potential member families are required to have an in-home personal interview with a local member where the rules, policies and procedures are covered, some outdoor background on the applicant family is collected, and if that member thinks they would be good members, an application can can be submitted at that time with personal references and permission to check fish and game records and felony convictions for Screening Committee review and approval.
In short, Wilderness Unlimited is trying to weed out the bozos that have ruined access to public lands and former free access to private lands that used to be obtained with a knock on the front door and a handshake.
Several different membership levels are available, depending on the type of hunting and fishing a family enjoys.
Membership fees and annual dues are reasonably priced for a normal working family.
If you would like more membership information from Wilderness Unlimited, please tell them you saw my YouTube video and either go to , call (877) 611-4868, or use your smartphone, take a snap of the QR code at the end of the video and send me a text message. I will contact Wilderness Unlimited for you and have a local member contact you.
Your personal contact information will not be used for any other purpose.
