Paradise Ridge Winery in Santa Rosa
Paradise Ridge Winery in Santa Rosa is one of my favorite places to explore in the entire area. This winery is located on the top of a hill and has a fantastic view from the tasting room. It also is the home to more than two dozen massive sculptures, some of which were from Burning Man. You are free to walk through the sculpture gardens and even the small trail through the vineyard itself. Paradise Ridge Winery in Santa Rosa is a must visit and is one of the most fun wineries in California.

Santa Rosa, California
Santa Rosa is a city in and the county seat of Sonoma County, California, United States. Its estimated 2014 population was 174,170.Santa Rosa is the largest city in California's Redwood Empire, Wine Country and the North Bay; the fifth most populous city in the San Francisco Bay Area after San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, and Fremont; and the 28th most populous city in California.
Before the arrival of Europeans, the wide valley containing Santa Rosa was home to a strong and populous tribe of Pomo natives known as the Bitakomtara. The Bitakomtara controlled the valley closely, barring passage to others until permission was arranged. Those who entered without permission were subject to harsh penalties. The tribe gathered at ceremonial times on Santa Rosa Creek near present-day Spring Lake Regional Park. Upon the arrival of Europeans, the Pomos were decimated by smallpox brought from Europe, and by the eradication efforts of Anglo settlers. By 1900 the Pomo population had decreased by 95%.
In 1867, the county recognized Santa Rosa as an incorporated city and in 1868 the state officially confirmed the incorporation, making it officially the third incorporated city in Sonoma County, after Petaluma, incorporated in 1858, and Healdsburg, incorporated in 1867. The 1906 San Francisco earthquake essentially destroyed the entire downtown, but the city's population did not greatly suffer. However, after that period the population growth of Santa Rosa, as with most of the area, was very slow.
Famed director Alfred Hitchcock filmed his thriller Shadow of a Doubt in Santa Rosa in 1943; the film gives glimpses of Santa Rosa in the 1940s. Many of the downtown buildings seen in the film no longer exist due to major reconstruction following the strong earthquakes in October 1969. However, some, like the rough-stone Northwestern Pacific Railroad depot and the prominent Empire Building (built in 1910 with a gold-topped clock tower), still survive.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 41.50 sq mi , of which 41.29 sq miles is land and 0.205 sq mi (0.49%) is water.
The 2010 United States Census reported that Santa Rosa had a population of 167,815. The population density was 4,043.8 people per square mile.

Discover Russian River Wineries HD 2012
WineQuesters.com brings you a brief overview of Sonoma County's Russian River Valley wineries. See what is there and why visit this wonderful wine region.
The Russian River Valley is a large area of low hills and agriculture influenced by cool coastal breezes and fog. It is perfect for Pinot. Exploring this region involves driving quiet country roads and exploring small towns. If you want to walk instead of drive you have that option in Healdsburg. Healdsburg has a beautiful town plaza in the center with quality shopping and restaurants in the town core. There are also a LOT of tasting rooms, over 20, to keep you busy for days, or even years.
Traveler services are centered in Santa Rosa and Healdsburg with some services in Windsor. Healdsburg is a wonderful small town to hang out in but is more expensive than Santa Rosa. Santa Rosa has a wide range of hotels and restaurants and the downtown has been nicely redeveloped. You can't go wrong staying anywhere in the region.

Merry Edwards Winery - Sebastopol, California
Merry Edwards, who is well known as the Queen of Pinot, is one of California's first female winemakers. She began her career as a winemaker at Mount Eden Vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains in 1974. She went on to become the founding winemaker at Matanzas Creek in 1977 and remained there until 1984. For the next decade, Merry consulted for numerous wineries, large and small, in Oregon and many diverse appellations of California. Along the way she has done Pinot Noir clonal research and responsible for the Mt Eden clone.
In 1997, she founded Merry Edwards Winery which specializes in Burgundian varietals with a focus on the unique terroir of the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. Today Merry and her husband, Ken Coopersmith, now manage five estate vineyards: Coopersmith, Cresta d'Oro, Flax, Georganne and Meredith. They also maintain collaborative relationships with several other dedicated growers to supplement this estate production. In 2001, a barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc blend was added to the portfolio.
In 2008 Merry and Ken completed their state-of-the-art boutique winery facility on the site of Coopersmith Vineyard where visitors can receive a personal introduction to their wines in the very tiny tasting room. I really enjoy this small party tasting which allows for a lot of interaction with the very knowledgeable host.
