SUMMIT TO BASE Hoodoo Ski Area, Oregon Cascades Family Skiing
Hoodoo Ski Area sits at the top of the Santiam Pass in Oregon, just off of Hwy 20. It's almost right in the middle of the State (north to south) in the Cascade mountain range. It's not a huge mountain, but the lodge is wonderful and the staff are friendly. It has a lot of terrain that is beginner and intermediate friendly as well as some more challenging terrain. It's a great place to take your kids to learn how to ski or snowboard. The video portion of this was filmed on the last run of our family trip in early March, 2018. The views from the summit are spectacular when the weather is clear.

2018 U.S. Capitol Tree in downtown Sisters, Oregon
The 70-foot-tall noble fir that was selected as the official United States Capitol Christmas Tree made a brief stop in the Hoodoo Ski Area parking lot and through downtown Sisters, Oregon, on its 3000+ mile journey to Washington, D.C. The tree was harvested in the Willamette National Forest and is only the second tree from Oregon to be selected as The People's Tree.

Hoodoo Ski Area Hopes For More Snow Next Year
Hoodoo Ski Area opened three months later than its normal opening date this year. This late start was caused by low snow levels and resulted in fewer skiers and snowboarders who came to visit the slopes. The staff is hopeful for next season but they say this late start definitely can't happen again.

Took my son and went up to Willamette Pass Ski Area in Oregon on February 18, 2019. Weather and snow were absolutely perfect, and since it was a Monday, the place was deserted! It was like having a private mountain. I was running some new-to-me skis that day and decided to let the horses run coming down Where's Waldo. GPS speed/distance etc. tracking was from STRAVA.

Hoodoo is just a little butte right in the middle of the Oregon Cascades. It's a small resort, but you couldn't ask for a better atmosphere thanks mainly to the chill locals and great staff. It's just simply fun and has something to offer no matter what the conditions are. Here you won't find any haters or scene, just a bunch of fun loving people that like to slide down snow covered hills.

This is what Lost Lake Looks like in the winter. This is the one near the Santiam Highway, not the one near Mount Hood. At the beginning I'm facing roughly east. At 0:30 I'm facing roughly south. The Santiam Highway is over there between the lake and the hill. At 0:36 that big light is the sun. It's almost sunset.
