Kameido Tenjin's Wisteria Festival 2014 - 亀戸天神の藤祭り
The Wisteria Festival is held every year at Kameido Tenjin, a shrine on the east side of Tokyo. Kameido Tenjin is a beautiful little place that has several ponds with bridges running over them and turtles and carp in the water below. Around the ponds are trellises from which the wisteria hang. The wisteria are a lovely purple colour and give off a fragrant scent. During May when the festival is held, it is incredibly crowded. For this video I had to go on a Monday morning when it was fairly cool and windy, but even so, there was quite a crowd there by the time I finished around 11am. It's a great event and worth a visit.
You can see of Kameido Tenjin on the Around Tokyo blog here

[vlog-20] Tokyo - Kyoto Trip 2014
#Tokyo #Kyoto #Japan
My 4th time in Japan ♡ Yay! I was just here last January 2014 :))
April 19 to 24, 2014
- We went to Disney Sea again. It was my 3rd time. (2012, 2013 & 2014)
- We also went to Hakone. We took the Hakone sightseeing cruise.
- I got to experience my first bullet train (Shinkansen)
- We went to Heian Jingu Shrine, Sanjusangendo & Kiyomizu.
- Heian Jingu Shrine is listed as an important cultural property of Japan.
- I like the Sanjusangendo temple because it has a 1001 buddha statues inside. Photos are not allowed inside the temple though. :( It has an interesting story. I will return to Kyoto to visit the other temples and shrines.
- Kiyomizudera (literally Pure Water Temple) is one of the most celebrated temples of Japan.
- President Obama was coming to Japan so the color of the Tokyo Tower was red, white and blue (USA flag)
- We went to Tokyo Tower 10mins before midnight to take pictures of the USA color tower. It was really nice.

Japan Trip : Day 5 (Tokyo Imperial Palace/Shibuya) / 日本で:5日目 (皇居/渋谷区)
The sights and sounds of Tokyo through my wobbly camera! Ever asinine and dire commentary. Nonetheless, the footage is authentic.
Made a travel log of my journey to Japan.
Skipped over the travelling time and condensed hours to just over 2 and a half minutes.
This video covers the Tokyo Imperial Palace, Akibahara and Shibuya. :) x

Japan Trip 2015 Tokyo Walking on Sugamo 01 Togenuki Jizo-dori Shopping Street
Sugamo (巣鴨) is a neighborhood in Toshima, Tokyo, Japan. Jizō-dōri (地蔵通り), a shopping street for the older generation (the area is known as the Harajuku of the old ladies) is located here. It lies at the crossing point of the JR Yamanote Line, and National Route 17.
Toshima (豊島区 Toshima-ku) is a special ward located in Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. In English, it is known as Toshima City. Toshima is one of the eight central wards of the Tokyo Metropolitan area, including Chiyoda, Minato, Shibuya, Chuo, Shinjuku, Taito, and Bunkyo surrounding the Imperial Palace. Located in the north-eastern area of Tokyo, Toshima is bordered by the wards of Nerima, Itabashi, and Kita wards, in the north, and Shinjuku and Bunkyo in the south.

Japan Trip 2014 Tokyo Cycling & Walking Shinjuku-dōri Meiji-dōri Yasukuni-dōri
Shinjuku, Tokyo
Shinjuku (新宿区 Shinjuku-ku?, New Lodge) is a special ward located in Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. It is a major commercial and administrative centre, housing the busiest train station in the world (Shinjuku Station) and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, the administration centre for the government of Tokyo. As of 2008, the ward has an estimated population of 312,418 and a population density of 17,140 people per km². The total area is 18.23 km².
Geography and neighborhoods
Shinjuku is surrounded by Chiyoda to the east; Bunkyo and Toshima to the north; Nakano to the west, and Shibuya and Minato to the south.
The current city of Shinjuku grew out of several separate towns and villages, which have retained some distinctions despite growing together as part of the Tokyo metropolis.
East Shinjuku: The area east of Shinjuku Station and surrounding Shinjuku-sanchome Station, historically known as Naito-Shinjuku, houses the city hall and the flagship Isetan department store, as well as several smaller areas of interest:
Kabukichō: Tokyo's best-known red-light district, renowned for its variety of bars, restaurants, and sex-related establishments.
Golden Gai: An area of tiny shanty-style bars and clubs. Musicians, artists, journalists, actors and directors gather here, and the ramshackle walls of the bars are literally plastered with film posters.
Shinjuku Gyoen: A large park, 58.3 hectares, 3.5 km in circumference, blending Japanese traditional, English Landscape and French Formal style gardens.
Shinjuku Ni-chōme: Tokyo's best-known gay district.
Nishi-Shinjuku: The area west of Shinjuku Station, historically known as Yodobashi, is home to Tokyo's largest concentration of skyscrapers. Several of the tallest buildings in Tokyo are located in this area, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, KDDI Building and Park Tower.
Ochiai: The northwestern corner of Shinjuku, extending to the area around Ochiai-minami-nagasaki Station and the south side of Mejiro Station, is largely residential with a small business district around Nakai Station.
Ōkubo: The area surrounding Okubo Station, Shin-Okubo Station and Higashi-Shinjuku Station is best known as Tokyo's historic ethnic Korean neighborhood.
Totsuka: The northern portion of Shinjuku surrounding Takadanobaba Station and Waseda University. The Takadanobaba area is a major residential and nightlife area for students, as well as a commuter hub.
Ushigome: A largely residential area in the eastern portion of the city.
Ichigaya: A commercial area in eastern Shinjuku, site of the Ministry of Defense.
Kagurazaka: A hill descending to the Iidabashi Station area, once one of Tokyo's last remaining hanamachi or geisha districts, and currently known for hosting a sizable French community.[4]
Yotsuya: An upscale residential and commercial district in the southeast corner of Shinjuku. The Arakichō area is well known for its many small restaurants, bars, and izakaya.
Shinjuku is often popularly understood to mean the entire area surrounding Shinjuku Station, but the Shinjuku Southern Terrace complex and the areas to the west of the station and south of Kōshū Kaidō are part of the Yoyogi district of the city of Shibuya.
Naturally, most of Shinjuku is occupied by the Yodobashi Plateau, the most elevated portion of which extends through most of the Shinjuku Station area. The Kanda River runs through the Ochiai and Totsuka areas near sea level, but the Toshima Plateau also builds elevation in the northern extremities of Totsuka and Ochiai. The highest point in Shinjuku is Hakone-san in Toyama Park, 44.6 m above sea level.

Kōenji
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kōenji (高円寺?) is an area of Tokyo in Suginami ward, west of Shinjuku. The neighborhood is named after some old temples in the area.
Kōenji is primarily a bedroom community with easy access to Shinjuku and Tokyo Stations. It was largely unaffected by the 1980s building boom and therefore many of the houses and shops in the area are small and reflect the character of pre-boom Japan. Due to its aging retail district and location on a major commuter route, the station area has become a center for small restaurants and Live Houses which offer live music. It is also known for having a young population and as a center for suburban underground culture including multiple used record and clothing shops. In 2006, when the Japanese PSE law went into effect restricting the sale of electronic goods built before 2001, Kōenji was chosen as the site for a protest due to its active retro culture and used equipment shops.
History
The current division of Kōenji into north and south around Kōenji Station is a post-war arrangement. The whole area surrounding Shukuhōzan Kōenji temple used to be called Kōenji.
There also used to be a town called Mabashi between Kōenji and nearby Asagaya, which has since been absorbed into Kōenji, although the name Mabashi is retained in some schools and shrines.
Awa Odori
Each year in late August the Kōenji Awa Odori festival is held over three days. This is increasingly becoming a major tourist attraction for the area. It is the second largest Awa Dance Festival in Japan, with an average of 188 groups composed of 12,000 dancers, attracting 1.2 million visitors over the course of the weekend.[1]
The festival has its origins in Tokushima and was adopted by Kōenji post-war. It involves a procession of groups performing traditional music and dance, and is enjoyed by a wide variety of people. The procession weaves its way through the streets on both sides of Kōenji Station, often with a dramatic conclusion at the finish line.
