Joshua Desert in California with the Bergeron family
Mojave Desert (Joshua Trees) [Part 1 of 5]
The Mojave Desert is a large desert that is made up of a large portion of southern California and smaller parts of southwestern Utah, southern Nevada, and northwestern Arizona. It is over 22,000 mi² (57,000 km²) in size. The topographical boundaries include the Tehachapi Mountains together with the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountain range. Elevations range from 11,916 feet (3,632 m) at Charleston Peak down to Death Valley, which is 282 ft (85.5 m) below sea level. There are many, many off-road trails and open-use areas throughout the Mojave Desert.

The Death Valley Germans---- Egbert--KILLS ALL FOUR OF THEM !
Egbert liked to gamble--and gamble big--after vacationing in Las Vegas and losing everything they drove back through Death Valley and continued to gamble----and drink heavily. He had his new girlfriend and they each had one child each along.. Did the wife divorce him because of the boozing? We may never know. Was Egbert in fact suicidal or at least gambling with their lives? I live here and frequent Death Valley and I personally consider his actions suicidal and not an accident. When they failed to find the bodies Mahood and his friend solved it by perseverance and logic and finally found the bones and wallets etc. (there is no reason to assume they did not all die together even if not all bones were found.) I supplement known information which all of the main information comes from Mahoods blog OTHERHAND.ORG I add my own opinions because all the rest in peace has been said and it should be addressed how for other people to not die the same way if nobody ever says anything about his foolish actions and drinking in a life or death high risk situation.. the kids? SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN ON A GAMBLING AND DRINKING BINGE TRIP TO LAS VEGAS.. The heavy drinking in the car--with kids--the stealing of the flag at the geologists cabin?--those things are illegal actually.. Near death in the final hours?--THATS WHEN THEY STOLE THE FLAG.. Note the clear pattern of being out of control and bad priorities.
Panamint Dunes Delight
An unusual approach walking from Panamint Springs Resort past the mouths of Rainbow Canyon and Lee Wash and then across mud flats and boulder fields entering the dune field from the northwest and back to PSR. The only image, not mine is the Panamint Dunes from atop Panamint Butte by John Morrow.

Landscape Photography in Death Valley National Park | An Incredible Journey | One Final Sunrise
My time in Death Valley National Park had come to an end, but not before one final sunrise shoot, and I decided to return to the Badwater Basin Salt Flats. I look forward to returning to Death Valley next year.

Day 6 Saline Valley Road 1 720p
Since our last visit to Death Valley, John has had a hankering to travel up the Saline Valley Road northwest of the park. It actually starts outside the park and wanders its way back in. This video covers the early part of Saline Valley Road after it leaves Hwy 190. Here's a clue, none of it is paved.

Hiking Joshua Tree National Park - Hexahedron Mine Hike
This video describes the approximately 9 mile round trip hike to the Hexahedron Mine in the Hexie Mountains of Joshua Tree Park. The route follows an old road for a couple miles through Pleasant Valley along Fried Liver Wash then the road climbs up the mountain. The road is steep and rocky and there are the remnants of an old rock cabin at the mine. The two mine tunnels have bat gates on them but both are broken allowing a person the enter the tunnels if so desired. The views of Pleasant Valley are fantastic and there are several more old mining sites to explore along the route.
Secret Places in Death Valley: The Boxcar Cabin
Death Valley has its secrets. While exploring the area outside the southern end of Death Valley National Park, I discovered one of those secrets -- the remote Buckhorn Boxcar Cabin (or Boxcar Cabin as it's more commonly known). I spent the night there, and the cabin does really resemble an old boxcar. Some sources I consulted do say that it is, indeed, an old train car from the Lone Pine, CA area that might've run on the now-vanished railroads that serviced the area mines. The cabin is NOT on private property and anyone can stay there on a first come-first served basis. Just remember to leave the cabin in better condition than you found it. And sign the log book!

GPS coordinates of the cabin: 36°26'0.39N, 117°37'51.63W

I arrived at the Boxcar Cabin during a rare summer rainstorm that seemed to follow me up the Saline Valley Road. Once the storm cleared, I explored some of the small mining prospects that are nearby. I also gave my handgun a workout by doing some target shooting while a greenish-colored lizard watched with less-than-enthusiastic interest.

The Pads Campground in Ryan southeast of Death Valley National Park along CA Hwy 190 provides primitive and free boondocking campsites in a former RV park location. The area was once used and created for a nearby mining facility that has since been abandoned the property is utilized by RV and tent campers as a free place to camp near Death Valley. Located in the middle of nowhere the destination is popular with winter visitors but is available year round. Dark night skies and pretty sunsets/ sunrises.
No amenities, utilities or restrooms you must be self contained. A mix of eclectic and normal campers this location is a bit of a trip depending upon who your neighbors may be.
While technically public land the location is not managed by any agency. Free access for boondocking style camping. Suitable to any size RV; just be prepared to do a little bouncing around to get to the sites.
The campsites are on concrete parking pads or wherever you want to stay. There is some highway noise depending upon which way the wind is blowing.
