Playful Dolphins just outside Marina Del Rey California USA.
Dolphins are well known for their agility and playful behavior, making them a favorite of wildlife watchers. Many species will leap out of the water, spy-hop (rise vertically out of the water to view their surroundings) and follow ships, often synchronizing their movements with one another. Scientists believe that dolphins conserve energy by swimming alongside ships, a practice known as bow-riding.
Dolphins live in social groups of five to several hundred. They use echolocation to find prey and often hunt together by surrounding a school of fish, trapping them and taking turns swimming through the school and catching fish. Dolphins will also follow seabirds, other whales and fishing boats to feed opportunistically on the fish they scare up or discard.

Twilight Time at the Marina by Bill Schaeffer
Absorb the refreshing ambience of Marina Del Rey as you relax after another hard day at work. Smell the salty air. Hear the waves lapping on the shore. Watch the birds fly out to sea past a lonely sail boat. Inhale deeply. Count to ten, slowly exhale, and sit back. Relax, you earned it.

35,000 fishes died in California and Minnesota
35,000 Huge fish die-offs in the waters off California and in a lake in Minnesota may be caused by the same thing: lack of oxygen. But oxygen deprivation was brought on by different sources.
lack oxygen in the water brought on by the recent Southern California heat wave is one of the reasons experts are suggesting for a huge fish die-off in the waters of Marina Del Rey.
California Fish and Wildlife workers are still scooping dead sea life from the surface of the harbor Monday after thousands of dead anchovies, stingrays and even an octopus died and floated up over the weekend.
The silvery blanket of fish on the water's surface created a pungent smell and set off a feeding frenzy of harbor seals, pelicans and seagulls.

Whale Watching Groupon
Went to Marina del Rey on a Whale Watching Expedition provided by GROUPON. Unfortunately no whales were found due to the fact that it is the middle of winter in California and they are in warmer waters migrating.
Saw plenty of seals, dolphins and enjoyed the sea breeze.
Paid 15 for 2 tickets worth a total of 30

Freediving the Santa Monica Pier Breakwater
The rubble left over from the breakwater built in the 1930's is now home to abundant ocean life! On this dive I saw a lobster on the sandy bottom just fifteen to twenty feet from the shore.
Once I arrived at the breakwater after a quarter mile swim, there were many bright orange Garibaldi, which is the California state fish.
On the way back I saw a deep purple live sand dollar, a bat ray, and a California round stingray.
