Canyoning Tour Services - Granary Canyon - Moab Cliffs And Canyons - Guide Services
Our Full Day “advanced” canyoneering routes require physical exertion and stamina. These trips are a lot of fun for people who enjoy being active outside for a good part of the day, getting a full-body workout and pushing their own limits either physically or mentally.
The trailhead for Granary Canyon is located high above Moab and very near to the mesa top of Dead Horse State Park. Although this trip is classified as advanced, Granary Canyon is suitable for adventurous beginners looking for a lot of rappels and plenty of canyon obstacles. This trip begins with perhaps the best view of the dramatic La Sal Mountains and the labyrinthine landscape of the Behind the Rocks area west of Moab.
It is here where the Cane Creek Anticline brushes up against the Kings Bottom Syncline to create a roiling sea of polished, ancient rock. Details of the geological processes at work are punctuated throughout the day (rock talk!) since the views beg to be discussed and interpreted.
This stunning view will be our steady back drop as we negotiate the beautiful canyons and corridors of Granary Canyon. Named for the occasional ancient storage bins used by Moab’s early inhabitants, the Ancestral Puebloans (formerly known as the Anasazi). These small, well-hidden rock structures were the first prototypes of the building technique (using local mortar) that gave rise to the more famous cliff palaces located elsewhere in the Four Corners area.
One challenge of the canyon (and there will be many!) will be to locate the granaries, arches and the occasional natural bridge that this impressive canyon harbors.
Onto the other challenges! You’ll experience six miles of moderate hiking, 2000 feet of elevation loss with an occasional short, easy section of down climbing – often attached to a rope for extra security.
Then there are the rappels! With a mix of easy and challenging rappels you’ll have the chance to try out some “advanced” rope techniques. The rappels drop you into some incredibly beautiful and unique formations – the work of water and gravity creating artworks of stone.
The rappelling skills you’ll have mastered throughout the day will be tested with our last rappel – a 200ft drop that deposits us close to the banks of the Colorado River!

Join me on a trip through the beautifully carved canyons of Utah. Over the Memorial day weekend some friends and I made our way down Granary canyon, which is broken up into two sections. The second of which features more difficult rappels and a monster 197 ft. rappel.

Off Tracks: Long Canyon, Moab, Utah Trail Review
A 2000ft canyon descent from Dead Horse Point State Park down to the Colorado river, Long Canyon offers incredible red-rock cliff vistas and glimpses of the La Sal Mountains in the distance.
When maintained, Long Canyon is suitable for most light-duty crossover type vehicles. The top can be washed out, which would create a technical obstacle for most built 4wds, but render the pass impassible to lighter duty vehicles.

Blue Trail alongside a Canyon in Moab
After being off the bike for 3 weeks due to injury, I was pretty stoked to be back on the bike and pedalling around Moab. After the 20 hour drive down from Squamish, we headed to the Navajo Rocks area and did a 27km loop around in the warm sunshine. Just the best ????.
That semi slick I'm using? It's this one:

Hellroaring Canyon Rim. Moab, UT. Group. #131
Hellroaring Canyon Rim starts out very smooth and easy and stays that way for 80% or so. Once near the edge the cratered slabs start to emerge and things get a little more interesting. Nothing too crazy but there are a few ledges that must be negotiated and I did lift a tire once or twice. Then you reach the edge which sits atop a fantastic horseshoe in the river with amazing cliff views. This site, unlike our usual one, has no safety ledges, it's straight down from the edge so be careful if you go. Have fun out there!

My Tires:
I love these tires. The only others I'd take are the BFG KO2 but they don't make them in this size and the KM2's are amazing. You can probably imagine the amount of driving I do weekly and how much abuse my tires get. These things last, everyone knows this, you've seen it in my videos.
My Tire Deflators:
These tire deflators have many $15 copies but the others just don't hold up or are inaccurate. I don't know what the deal is, they look identical to me too but read the reviews- they're bad. I've been using these Staun's for over a year and never had a problem, I air down a lot. Set them at the trail so your tires will be the same temp when you get to the trail next time.
My Compressor:
There are better ones but I'd just get a bigger VIAIR, not someone different. Airs up all my 33's from 14psi to 37psi in less than 10 minutes. The in-line gauge is inaccurate when the compressor is on because of the pressure passing through. You need to switch it off to get a real reading. You can combat this by figuring out what incorrect reading corresponds to the real one. When mine is right at 3 Bar (43psi) it's slightly over 37psi. I put it on another tire and then use my real gauge to set it exactly.
My Microphone:
My microphone is the worst good mic you can get. BUT don't be fooled, it's a very good mic. Picture me getting in my car for the 50th time after I just ran up and down a hill... for the 50th time. Do you see me disconnecting my mic and gingerly setting it in a case? No. It stays connected to the tripod, gets thrown into my plastic cargo area and bounces around with other heavy items until the next one. It gets terrible interference from WiFi so you must make sure that it's off on your camera or phone. If you are trying to use this with your phone you need to get a TRS to TRRS cable which RODE makes. This is required because your phone will think the mic is headphones.
My Tripod:
I went through 2 tripods in 1 month, a $20 and a $30. Buy it nice or buy it thrice. This thing gets opened and closed MANY times per week in rain, snow, dirt, and even in the middle of rivers. I love the 2-stage legs so i can make it real low in 2sec instead of shortening all the legs.
My Drone:
You can tell how easy it was to progress through my videos. Besides maybe five times, you've seen every bit of flying since I got it. I don't fly in the city and I don't go to the mountains and not make a video. It is VERY easy to use.
My Drone ND Filters:
The filters are a must. Again I have the worst ones and I am still very pleased. My first use was video #35 and I think it is very apparent. Illinois Gulch (#34 obviously) has a completely white sky, way too much blue. I'm still not even good about selecting the right one or changing them out but it's 10x better than nothing.
My Books:

Moab
FunTreks books are great. I like to bring as much information as possible when I go to the middle of nowhere. They have coordinates and maps for everything, very in-depth info on sturdy pages.
This is the stuff I've tested, this is what I like. I am very hard on all of my equipment frequently and it still works. I back all of these items and each company seems to back their product very well too. I guess it's easy to offer a warranty when your stuff doesn't break.

This is a really nice paved trail in Moab. I only got to ride just a small part of it but what I did ride was pretty sweet. There is a nice bridge that crosses the Colorado River and then the trail heads out toward Moab Brands Trails and on past it a ways from what I gather. We stayed at the Moab Valley RV park which makes for a great return point coming from this trail or Porcupine Rim.

Rock formations, fun side trails, and an inspiring overlook at the Green River make this off-highway route one to put on your to-do list. It will take you past formidable rock formations such as Tombstone Rock, Dellenbaugh Tunnel, and Secret Spire. This route is better known to off-road enthusiasts for connecting to the more challenging and remote Dellenbaugh Tunnel and Secret Spire trails, however, its namesake comes from ending at a point towering over the Green River.

This is a big Wahoo on this bike pathway trail going north out of Moab along Highway 191 through Moab Canyon. It runs past the entrance to Arches National Park to the turn-off of 191 to Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point. We provide some advice on NOT biking through Arches. Great ride on this paved bike pathway. There are some uphill portions. No problem with an eBIke!
