Moro Rock - Sequoia National Park 2017
On this day (September 2017), I hiked Moro Rock in Sequoia National Park. Moro Rock is a huge dome rock that has a stairway that was designed in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps so visitors can hike to the top. The road to the hike is closed for the winter, so the trail is discouraged during thunderstorms and when it’s snowing.

Congress Trail and Morro Rock | Sequoia National Park, California
We only had one day to explore Sequoia National Park in California so we hiked some of the main trails in the park. We hiked the Congress Trail and climbed Morro Rock. Thankfully we were able to take the free shuttles around the park as there are many roads that our RV Big Booty Judy was not able to access. We had a wonderful time in Sequoia National Park and even got up close and personal with a few deer.

Unfortunately, we couldn't visit much of Sequoia National Park as we were stuck in a snow storm and were told to leave the park. The video is made with a Nikon D5500 in April 2016.

Traveling over the whole Generals Highway, crossing Sequoia National Park, Sequoia National Forest and Kings Canyon National Park. The video shows Generals Highway northbound - from the Ash Mountain entrance to Sequoia National Park to the Big Stump entrance (exit) to Kings Canyon National Park.
Generals Highway - this is its proper spelling - is a 52.3-kilometer (32.5-mile) Californian highway connecting Highway 198 and Highway 180. It is one of the most scenic roads in the United States - and, in my opinion, in the world. Generals Highway crosses the Sequoia National Park, the Giant Sequoia National Monument section of the Sequoia National Forest and Kings Canyon National Park.

I used the Go Pro Hero 3 and the Chesty to climb to the top of Moro Rock in Sequoia, California. Yes, the chesty was right near my heart so, you can hear how hard I was breathing (it is 6725 feet in elevation). I did make it!! Hope you enjoy!!

Moro Rock is a granite dome rock formation in Sequoia National Park, California, USA. It is located in the center of the park, at the head of Moro Creek, between Giant Forest and Crescent Meadow. Moro Rock is a dome-shaped granite monolith. Common in the Sierra Nevada, these domes form by exfoliation, the spalling or casting off in scales, plates, or sheets of rock layers on otherwise unjointed granite. Outward expansion of the granite results in exfoliations. Expansion results from load relief; when the overburden that once capped the granite has eroded away, the source of compression is removed and the granite slowly expands. Fractures that form during exfoliation tend to cut corners. This ultimately results in rounded dome-like forms

Hike Up Moro Rock, Sequoia National Park California on Sunday July 3, 2011. Also shown is our Azalea campground campsite in Kings Canyon National Park. A shuttle bus took us right up to the bade of Morro Rock and the hike was steep at times but a moderate 20 min walk uphill on granite and cement steps (400) and walkways.
